i watched a program on Geographic a few months ago about smoking. there i heard them saying that smoking/nicotine has some positive effects. it is 'considered' that nicotine can be used as anti depressant. do you think that it's true?

Nicotine might be anti depressant on a very short term. After that period, the depression comes back - so you need another cigarette ...and so on.

nicotine improves concentration. and helps with anxiety attacks. makes me feel better when i am fucking pissed. love it.

Actually, that is a fallacy that it helps anxiety. Nicotine is a stimulant and stimulants generally increase anxiety. The motion of smoking may relieve anxiety--but the nicotine itself is very counter-productive.
I used to smoke--and the best decision I ever made wa to quit.
I am a terrible reformed smoker!
Now put out your butts! There's a new sherriff in town! -
This is your lungs on smoke.

Some studies have found that patients with Alzheimer's disease are more likely not to have smoked than the general population, the same is true of Parkinson's disease. However the risks of smoking obviously far outweigh these advantages.

Nicotine is a stimulant, and so can help you awake and focused or alert when need be, or help you concentrate.
Smoking also helps many a smoker calm down when they are upset.-
Hey, so do a lot of things. The biggest cause of death is life.
After losing some friends and family members (at various ages, due to various causes) and having other friends get very sick - I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things. (smoking, that is).
I've had healthy people succumb to cancer, and non healthy people die from car accidents, and lifelong smokers who never get cancer, and health fanatics who have intestinal problems, or die of brain tumors and so on and so forth.
It just goes to show that if you're going to get sick, you're going to get sick. Granted, abusing your body above and beyond won't help matters at all - but for the average person I think we are making a much larger fuss over stuff like this than we need to.

I thought it does...but I realise it kills

I am definitely not 'for' smoking, but I think the action of smoking can be quite a big crutch for people when they feel anxious... I have wondered in the past if there is a link between the deep intakes of breath and feeling calmer whilst having a cigarette. (Rather than the nicotene, or as well as).
I know someone who uses a cigarette in lieu of a paper bag - when she feels a panic attack coming on she lights up a cigarette, it slows her breathing and calms her down. -
