There's a difference between GOALS and a purpose. What is the PURPOSE of your life?
Is one purpose necessarily better than others?

My life has purpose. Whether it has A purpose is theological and/or metaphysical, and therefore unprovable.

Well, one must first believe in purpose...The Random or The Purpose?...hmm.
if anyone is supposed to have a purpose, we are not to know what that purpose is. i also like Agit8r's answer.
"Is one purpose necessarily better than others?"
if one had a purpose it would not exceed another's purpose in importance. but that is if one believes in purpose. but to believe in purpose one must also have some form of faith in the metaphysical/theological. -
I do not necessarily believe that my life has a predestined purpose. Now, I believe my purpose is to help others and spread peace as often as possible. This the main reason I am a teacher!

My purpose is to launch The Melindaville Foundation, which will fund treatment and college (or other job training) for the most hopeless of addicts--particularly those working in the sex industry.

I think my purpose is just to exist and do the best I can. I wrote more about my thoughts at my blog: morninggorgeous.blogspot.com/2009/09/just-live.html. (I hope the link is allowed.)

I have twice been declared dead but have come back to life. I no longer fear death and no longer question what my life purpose is. I know that I am meant to live, love and learn and that's why I'm here. And this I know in my heart of hearts -- I am meant to teach as well as to learn.
Death is a transition; it's a new beginning. After my life in this body is over, I will return again to this earthly plane, most likely with no knowledge of any past lives, and I will be faced with more lessons to learn and more to teach. Until I have learned all my lessons perfectly and taught them all perfectly, and I have become nothing but love, I will return again and again.
Each life journey is a journey from self to SELF, where God* gradually shakes off ignorance and reclaims Divinity, or basically is conscious of his/her/its Divine Reality – LOVE.
Not everyone has loved me in my past lives. Not everyone will love me in this life or in my future lives either. I have I not loved nor will I love everyone either but that’s okay, because at our core we are all much more the same than we are different.
* God = Neither male nor female, neither good nor bad, neither light nor darkness but containing all there is and situate everywhere: the universal stream of consciousness flowing through all is God – LOVE. Hence, God is found in everyone and in everything; God just keeps on experiencing LOVE.

I read a book called 'Life after death' and that book was about how your actions in present life determine your next life form. The lesson of the book was to try and learn and be perfect so you get salvation from life. I agree that every life for is on the Earth of a reason and has a purpose. That purpose could be anything from suffering, learning, teaching, sharing...-
I am not striving to be perfect. Doing so would be clinging to an attachment to perfection and would be counter-productive. I'm living mindfully in the "now" moment, knowing the lessons before me in this and every life are all directed towards conquering egocentricity, and experiencing freedom from attachments and aversions.

I believe the need for a purpose comes when there's a lot of suffering, someone enjoying life doesn't ask why he lives. Just like we don't need a destination for dancing or a purpose for laughing. Personally I'm suffering a lot in my life, I need a purpose but I can't find any, I guess I'm only alive because I'm too scared of dying (not any less scared of living)
Have I said too much? sorry for complaining, the question just evoked these feelings in me. -
If you believe your life has a purpose then it will, eventually. If you believe it doesn't have a purpose, you won't be looking for it anyway, hence you may never find it, and if you do you may never realize it.
Why would anyone dare to declare that their life has no purpose and hence proclaim himself worthless?
