WHAT is WRONG with some people???

Raising dogs to fight and then when they lose kill them?

Or imagine coming home to find your dog skinned like a deer? I would go ballistic on them and there would be no need for a trial.

One of my neighbors has a pit bull which I understand was originally involved in dog fighting. That dog to this day will go after (and HAS gone after) other dogs in the neighborhood. It's a sad situation, because the damage to this dog has been done due to this "sport" and it's not looking like it can be "undone". I'd also be concerned about the dog around, say, a baby.

It's not the dog's fault it was trained this way, but it's also dangerous for the community.

This stuff happens because people aren't willing to take responsibility for themselves and their decisions.

I just can't grasp that whole mentality.

There was another thread recently on these atrocities. You might find interesting reactions there too.

OK thanks Stoneman...it just made me so mad that i wanted to see what others thought about it.

There are many links where you can post letters to nike and the NFL. I have one on my blog. To thriftshopromantic: it is not just pitt bulls that endanger the community, there are alot of irresponsible dog owners out there. Many can be found in community dog parks.
Most animal owners are responsible and caring people, they don't get the attention they deserve. Thats why I made a post for animal lovers in my blog today. Check it out.

Oh, no, I wasn't singling out pit bulls as being the only dogs who potentially attack in these situations. It's just that it's a pit bull in my neighborhood that did the attacking-- and also commonly these are the breeds of dogs in my area that appear to be being used for the dog fighting. And I should note, my neighbor who has it was NOT the owner of the dog when it was fighting. He's rescued it. But the issue is a sort of blinders to the potential dangers still associated with it.

Cool - 'cuz we rescued a pit bull about 7 years ago. Been with us ever since and is the sweetest dog I know. Also, I would not want to be the person who messes with my daughter if "Brindle" can see you...

Just an added note; I am glad that this particular case is getting so much attention. Dog fighting has been mostly ignored or down played as a problem. Now maybe more people will start reporting it when they know it is going on in their neighborhoods. I hope so anyway.

Yeah, that's one potentially good thing about celebrity worship. People might pay attention.

I can not stand people that get pets and then don't take care of them or tie them out in the yard for 10yrs and ignore them.

I have directly handled two of such situations or having the pet removed from irresponsible owners. One was a puppy left tied in the yard while the family went on vacation and left a water bucket (turned over in the first hour by the puppy)and some dry food on the ground. Also while they we're away it rained like crazy and the puppy was left tied in the yard upto its belly in standing water. We called animal protection people and then had the puppy taken into foster care and later was adopted by decent people.

I'm glad you called. Thats what it takes, one phone call at a time and people who aren't too shy about getting involved.

im so glad you did this. that doggy was lucky to have you near to help him.

They (pitt bulls) are the dogs that are used in fighting. The shelter where I work part time has to euthanize the ones who can't be rehabilitated. I do agree there are people with 'blinders' on. Emotions get the best of people when you discuss dogs and animals. I am glad there are responsible people who outweigh the irresponsible ones.

Well i am definatly NOT shy about such things and will do something about it.
In the other issue i was involved with required me to get face to face with someone and let's just say they no longer own the pet they kicked and did mean things to.

Cane the F**KERS and then skin them. See if they like it.
Down with animal and human cruelty!

Our dogs get treated better than some people do, and we love them to pieces, but what is also important is that we know they are dogs.

Yes, there are irresponsible dog owners, as well as sadistic ones (including those who train the fighters). There are also a lot of well meaning dog owners who anthropomorphize their pets instead of training them and understanding what a dog can and cannot take responsibility for out in the community.

We have new next door neighbors who have 3 rescued pit bulls. Turns out that they also subsequently added a rescued Bichon to the pack and the Bichon terrorizes the pit bulls.

This guy on the picture was found tied to a tree in Prospect Park (Brooklyn). We were told he was the dog they trained on. His (adopted) sister was found tied to a tree a year later. She was too small to fight.
    1. clioandme
You mean she was tied to a tree because she couldn't fight? Or she was tied to a tree, which had fatal consequences because she couldn't fight? Or both? What happened? And do you mind sharing your guy's name, or would that throw a wrench in the whole anonymity thing?

i'm afraid to watch the video (or links) you posted above, disturbing images of animal cruelty, really do a number on me and my emotions (not too mention really really piss me off) that is one of the reasons i do not visit the PETA website, the site for and about vegetarians, even though i am a devout vegetarian and devout animal lover. they are way to graphic for me. i have never seen that video, "meet your meat" and never will, it would probably traumatize me for life, but i dont eat meat, and that is how i help, how i contribute to less animal suffering.

i dont need to see it, i do know it exist 100%, im not in denial about it, i just dont want to see the horrors. i am super glad that you are in your own right a champion for animals and you do what you can to help. i am very glad about that.
