Dolly Parton's death got into the news this weekend.

Nobody told her, though, so she kept on working.

I posted about this, with attention to news, research, and deadlines, in "Dolly Parton Dead? Another Reason I'm Not a Journalist" ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2008/08/dolly-parton-dead-another-reason-im-n... ).

What's interesting is that I researched and wrote the post in under 30 minutes. Apparently, the original (gossip column) journalist didn't have time to do that - or had a boss who wanted stories out NOW, no matter what.

I loved the post, Norski. I linked to it with a bit of commentary.

    Thanks!

I feel bad laughing at that, because I really, really love Dolly Parton.

      It's funny, though.

Well, wasn't it not long ago here on BC someone was posting that Jackie Chan had died? Like the Dolly incident, I went a-looking on credible news sources, and not a single bit of Jackie news was to be found.

This is why critical thinking is SO critical.

Say goodbye to the rumor mill. But to independent thought, well-- "Hello Dolly!"

"This is why critical thinking is SO critical."

Not to be contrarian or anything, well, yeah, to be a little contrarian, I guess, but are you suggesting that the best purpose we can put critical thinking to is in ascertaining which celebrities are really dead or that phony dead celebrities are the best reason for dusting of the old logic books?

or whenever Dan Rather has exclusive documents to report on just weeks before a major election.

Well, not making a fool of one's self in one's journalism job is pretty important...

But no, Dane, I'm not saying that. And ya know that.

Wow, that was a little milder than anticipated.

I feel frightened for Steelers fans on the highway during rush hour. Someone remind Roethlisberger to wear a helmet!

      Heh-- and KEEP reminding him.

How is it that Dolly can be reported wrongly dead even once and Keith Richards who has been walking around dead for years...never mind.

I love these urban legends. I think I'll start one of my own. Mark Lynn-Baker (aka "Cousin Larry" from Perfect Strangers) is Marilyn Manson.
