Dolly Parton's death got into the news this weekend.
Nobody told her, though, so she kept on working.
I posted about this, with attention to news, research, and deadlines, in "Dolly Parton Dead? Another Reason I'm Not a Journalist" ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2008/08/dolly-parton-dead-another-reason-im-n... ).
What's interesting is that I researched and wrote the post in under 30 minutes. Apparently, the original (gossip column) journalist didn't have time to do that - or had a boss who wanted stories out NOW, no matter what.

Well, wasn't it not long ago here on BC someone was posting that Jackie Chan had died? Like the Dolly incident, I went a-looking on credible news sources, and not a single bit of Jackie news was to be found.
This is why critical thinking is SO critical.
Say goodbye to the rumor mill. But to independent thought, well-- "Hello Dolly!"

Not to be contrarian or anything, well, yeah, to be a little contrarian, I guess, but are you suggesting that the best purpose we can put critical thinking to is in ascertaining which celebrities are really dead or that phony dead celebrities are the best reason for dusting of the old logic books?

How is it that Dolly can be reported wrongly dead even once and Keith Richards who has been walking around dead for years...never mind.
