After graduating from Westpoint and a sterling career in the military, Lt. Dan Choi may be loosing his career all for admitting to be gay. Because of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, homosexuals in the military are forced to keep their personal lives a secret.

What is your opinion on this current debate.

sorry, I forgot to attribute that quote. It is attributed to Barry Goldwater 1964 Republican nominee for the presidential election.

when I was in, we knew who was what and there wasn't an issue. There were even little signals with clothing to express it. The only ones I have ever seen booted were the ones who caused problems in some other way but were untouchable for it and so sexuality was used to get em out. On the other hand, I have seen strait people booted for heterosexual oral and anal sex (against UCMJ) for similar reasons. When you hear of someone being kicked out for sexuality, it has been my experience both as a soldier and a military spouse, that there is something else going on that isn't being mentioned.... and we're not talking little things. One dude was kicked out for holding a knife to someone's throat (not the first time it's been reported) but there was no proof and so since he was bi, it was used as an excuse to get a bully out of the unit. He was a friendly fire incident waiting to happen

Personally I think LisaNYC and DollinNYC are the same individuals who are into lambasting individuals - and are extremely rude about it.

I think they both should think about their actions - and consider whether BlogCatalog Forum Discussion is ACTUALLY the place they need to be in.

I consider their commentary harassing and rude, and, QUITE Inflammatory.

I think it's indicative of a great error in reasoning when people are forcibly ripped from their careers because their biological sexual attractions do not coincide with the perceived norm.

Does being gay harm anyone? No. Does having gay sex harm anyone? Usually not. Does being gay necessarily mean that you are going to have gay sex or lust after your fellow servicemen? Doubtful.

So, where is the harm? I'd wager that there is no harm caused by homosexuals. On the other hand, Don't Ask, Don't Tell causes harm through humiliation, lost wages, emotional distress, etc.

It is difficult for me to see why anyone would be in favor of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The only reasons that come to mind are: Hatred, disgust, ignorance, and fear.

When policies are based on such emotional and destructive premises, they are inherently bad policies and should be destroyed permanently.

Love you Voods - how ya doin?

And thanks for bringing this convo back on track!

I'm doing alright. Thanks for asking.

      And you're welcome.

What always gets me about "Don't ask don't tell" is that somehow the reason of "well we'll be uncomfortable when we know who is gay around us, we have to shower with them!" is used.

If they are gay - they are gay. If they aren't groping you in the shower now, they aren't going to start simply because yu know they're gay.

And imagine how uncomfortable homosexuals are already in shower room situations? DO people honestly believe that they are animalistic lust-whore-exhibitionists who want nothing more than to prance around naked in hopes of getting some? They probably don't want to be nekked in front of the straight guys anymore than a woman does!

They do have this thing called modesty.

      *sigh*
