Topics: blogging, business blogging, dos and don'ts, why we blog
So I was working on an article for one of my company's many presentation tools on why businesses should invest in blogging. My boss suggested that I write an article for customers entitled: "The Dos and Don'ts of Blogging"
I finished the article, but I was thinking that before I have it printed I would ask the professionals. What do you think are the top five dos and the top five don'ts of blogging?
I'd appreciate your input!
Thanks in advance

Dos:
- reply to comments, each and every single comment
- choose the right domain name, even if it takes weeks to decide, choose the right one
- write for the readers, while keeping the search engines and social media sites in mind, but write for the readers first
- test your blog in every single browser there is, on windoze, mac, linux
- be consistent, if you start by writing 1 article everyday, and you suddenly drop, you readers kinda expect 1 post a day
Don'ts:
- don't monetize the blog too early
- don't quit, and move on to another blog
- don't make it hard for the readers to contact you, and don't ask for registration or login for people to comment
- don't copy exactly what another blogger does (John Chow and Darren Rowse are already "making money online")
- Don't feed the trolls ( www.untwistedvortex.com/2007/06/07/do-not-feed-the-trolls/ )

How about:
-Don't expect that the moment you begin blogging, that people will flock to your site/your companies products/services. Be patient. Building an audience takes time.
-Don't assume that just because your audience is quiet, there's no one reading. Verify it with a tracking program. There are even good free ones out there. -
stop checking your stats because it will drive you crazy.. lol. ok just kidding. This is what I learned so far
Have your own point of view
Definitely reach out to your readers even if you have only one.
Join Social Networking Sites and submit your blogs to directories
Use Wordpress. It's the best (Ok I am biased)
Contact people who have been doing it for awhile... they are all really nice.. and be interested in their blog.. leave comments and such.
Ask questions..
dont's.... hmmm...
I guess don't expect to much traffic if you write the blog and leave it at that. You definitely need to work hard to promote it..
don't write something that's going to come and haunt you later in life. Or else you get dooced.
