Hey gang, and for any Angelenos out there. How much do you love driving in Los Angeles? I for one, I almost got rear ended by a tailgater, and I got into a nasty confrontation with a local for not passing the yellow light. You can read about my rant here:

Anyone agree with me that the drivers of Los Angeles are road assassins?

Yes i totally agree, people in LA just dont know how to drive!!!!!!!!!

might as well just ask to be rear-ended while sitting at a red light

I lived 3 years in Boston before moving to Orange County. I've seen more speeding since I moved here, but for scarily abrupt lane changes and driving like a pack of feeding frenzy sharks, Boston drivers win hands down. I knew a New York driver who refused to drive in Boston because it was too dangerous. Here, they'll sometimes signal courteously before sweeping across 3 lanes of traffic into the carpool lane, instead of suddenly lunging for you!

I feel for you though. I'm generally on the freeways in LA -- crawl, crawl, crawl, thank GODS I bought a Prius 4 years ago -- rather than city streets. I'm sure there's some ill-tempered eggs around. So far, apart from one homeless man (according to the police whom I reported the incident to) who backed into me and drove off, I've not seen nasty drivers so much as speeders.

Yes, I have noted a lot of tailgating, and I'm the annoying blue Prius driver who hits my brakes unexpectedly to get those toads to back off. I only drive TEN miles above the speed limit, sorry!

They do drive like idiots in the rain here, though! It would be amusing if it weren't so dangerous. I'd hate to see what they'd do on snow, or, heaven forfend, black ice.

I grew up in LA. Happyfoodgirl's post is one of the main reasons I MOVED!

I live in L.A. and yeah, people can't drive for sh..! People rarely slow down for accidents, rain, or pedestrians. I have no problem rolling down my window and calling someone stupid or flicking them off, provided they look like someone I could take in a fight and aren't carrying a gun. One must be cognizant of these things.

JillSaxon sounds like she lives in LA... another reason to be friendly (ahem, cautious) to all the natives!

LOL... Mewie, notice how I pick my battles. I'm all tough unless it looks like I might catch a beat down! :-D

Trust me, it's not just L.A. it's no better going east. Half of the people can't drive and the other half just refuse to even when they know better. I see it just a little differently than you in the respect that I think those who never have road rage are the ones who can't drive. They drive so badly they give everyone else road rage and then look around like, "what did I do?" Ummm... Let's see. You cut across three lanes of traffic without looking because you were on the phone and about to miss your exit? Ummm... because you're on the phone digging in your purse and keep coming over into my lane?

People can't drive anywhere. I head to L.A. about one week a month, and while the overall congestion is the worst I've seen, trust me when I say the drivers are just as bad in NY City and D.C. It's the volume that's a killer.

PLus, how in the world is it legal for motorcycles to ride inbetween lanes out there? That freaks me out every time I see it.

Oh.God. Am I wrong for laughing out loud when I saw this? I'm so gonna post this on my blog.

I almost choked on my pizza when I saw it.

I was SO surprised when I went to LA! I have always heard this, and was prepared to have problems, especially since I had interviews all over the area and didn't know my way around. I was shocked (in a good way) by how easy it was to get around...after Washington D.C. (and even my native Chicago), it was nothing.

You are a true survivor MadameX. You must share your secret with me so that I can live another day.

At least in the east coast you can avoid the idiots by taking the subway or the bus.

It's been 15 years for me on that one. Thank God.
