Interesting post about using the same phrase or keywords. I have wondered if I've been penalized as I use the words recycled and bags all the time. Not that I'm spamming those words but that's just my niche and it's impossible not to use those keywords in many of my posts.

At first glance the article seems fine but upon inspection this is Matt Cutts usual cryptic nonsense.
He's asked if 200 sites with the same content will be penalized for duplicate content. He says no, then he turns around and says the opposite, the author claims:
"For the sake of not giving an incomplete picture, though, we should note (as Cutts did) that Google remains focused on users having a positive experience, and it might be best in the 200-site situation to make PageRank flow to one original domain."
Might be BEST? Meaning what exactly? A positive experience, does that mean a site with the same content as 200 others might not be positive and it wont see results unless they all point at one domain? That's not always the case.
Also, 200 is an extremely low number - you can get 200 inlinks from one submission network - guess what, each referring page has some of the exact content of your article. Why such a low number Mr Cutts? What exactly are you trying to hide in that Google Webspam Department secretly tucked away under the pentagon?
The biggest problem is that he's being asked about a co branded job sites, they certainly won't be pointing at each other they are the end users of the content.-
Morning, woof.
I have read TT's posts and have been pondering about the word "duplicated" contents.
In various photography fora, my post links to my articles are everywhere. The issue lies in these links all lead to my original content in my blogs. The "duplicated" contents or keywords are thus everywhere... Though these contents are all "mine".
Ever since I read TT'post about "copyscape" and installed the logo on my site. I have slowed down posting my articles in various fora. I wanted to avoid duplication of my posts to get penalised. Now I am a little lost... -
@roe glad you brought this up.
The main question, do all these sets of 'duplicate content and keywords' all point to an original source with the content on it?
Meaning 50 pages all have your content on it, but do they link to your site where the content originates? If it's a duplicate post, it should have link to the original on your blog/site -
@woof
Thanks for the reply
All these contents and keywords do point back to my original content so does this make it less of a problem?
Does the net record the timing of the article when it first came to the net? If so, the net will identify the very first article as the original article?
Thanks woof! -
@roentarre
"All these contents and keywords do point back to my original content so does this make it less of a problem?"
This means that it's not a problem at all! Not only are you not getting smacked for dupe content, since it points at the original(even if it's a little different) But those links that point at your site give it more relevancy for your keywords as well
The situation that you describe is a great SEO scenario! You have nothing to worry about. Thats actually what Matt Cutts says in the article weblogian posted:
From Matt Cutts mouth "If you have the same content on 200 different sites . . . is it typical that we give a duplicate content penalty for that? No. Definitely not."
He continues "it might be best in the 200-site situation to make PageRank flow to one original domain" In your situation @roentarre this pageflow flow that he's referring to are the inlinks from the pages your content is on(besides your own pages) to the original content.
If this is confusing, just know that you are in good shape and have no risk of getting slapped for duplicate content.
BTW Matt Cutts is the head of the google webspam department, he's the one who helped create this 'pagerank' system and also he's responsible for the nofollow attribute value. He's the biggest name in SEO
