I have a growing and impressive DVD collection. On average I am paying $10 - $20 each for them. I generally watch them 2-3 times, then they sit collecting dust until I can't find anything to watch on 300 channels of satellite TV.

So do you buy or rent your DVD's? If you buy, do you watch them often enough to have broken even over renting multiple times?

Netflix! I was buying DVD's until I came to the same realization you did that they sat around collecting dust.

We stopped buying except for the ones we know we'd watch over and over and over. Netflix is the way to go!

My daughter is studying ancient Greece right now. Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans is on our list. Gotta love Ray Harryhausen, heard him talk at a con.

Mostly we rent (I'm another huge Netflix fan, especially the instant streaming). We do have an enormous collection of old favorites, however. Hubby's willing to take a chance on buying a new movie that he thinks will be great, but if it's up to me we'll rent it first.

I will only usually buy educational DVD's the last one I bought was a pottery instructional video on making outsize pots "Monster jugs 4" I recommend it to any fans of jugs, I enjoyed it so much I'm thinking of getting the first three.

I buy DVD's for my kids because I know they like to watch them over and over but for myself, I prefer renting as I would only watch a movie once or twice (twice would have to be a really good one). Most of the time I just wait until the films are shown on TV as I've cancelled my online rental subcription.

It depends on the movie. If its a movie i really like i buy it, but otherwise i just hit blockbuster.

I must be in trouble.... I just added SAW and SAW II to my collection. And the list keeps growing and growing.

Go through your collection and weed out the ones you haven't seen in a few years. If Netflik carries it, then you can rent it in the future. I just sold a bunch of DVD's on Ebay. Sold them as a lot since they were similar, did pretty good, averaged $7 each.

I like Netflix. I do buy DVD's that I consider classics and timeless.

We tend to buy movies we like, and borrow movies we're unsure of from friends. Truth be told, my name is mud with all DVD rental stores, Libraries and other assorted rental places

I've given up buying movies. We now go to Hulu and fancast

I buy DVDs mostly - with my purchase yesterday I'm up to 483 DVDs listed in my database. I'm running out of room for them

Perhaps you should export the data out to a flat file, then rebiuld the table with a much higher record limit... then use an "insert update" command to repopulate the data from your export file.

Then you should be good to go for a while.

I think Svelmoe means the physical DVDs, not the size of the database!

LOL - yeah - the physical DVDs take up space. The database is fine :o
They are currently taking up about 9-10 meter of shelf space if positioned in "single file".

Think I need to get a cabinet build or something to store them.

Out of the lot, I think about 10 or so I haven't watched, because they were either free, or part of a box-set purchase. About 10% of them I've only watched once. The remainder at least twice. Oh and a a point in time I sold about 30 or so discs as well.
      I like movies.

Mostly rent DVDs because it's so much cheaper. I buy them once in a while when I know I'm going to watch it more than once.

I have belonged to netflix for almost 4 years. I've loved it. I have watched so many movies in that time--and it is so easy. I do buy DVDs but they have to be very special to me. Ones that I want to own. "Sex and the City", "Devil Wears Prada", "Dark Knight" are a few of my recent purchases.

Like many others, I love Netflix. I have a small collection of DVDS that I purchased prior to NF. Sometimes, I'll buy cheap 'classic' DVDs, with my most recent purchase being 'As Good As It Gets.' Some films are worth owning

I proudly support my local dvd rental place.if I like the movie a lot, then I will buy it, and I usually watch it more than 3 times
