I have had a few card holders reject my card, because?
They are too good for us? The sites we tried to put ads on was related to what we do.
I have to laugh, because here is some little twit that thinks he has a blog that is something special and probably been doing it for a few weeks or a month.
Our blog is only an extension to our website and at the moment we are a page ranked at 4 which dropped cause google's whatever reason. We pull in 250,000 unique viewers a year, plus have over a million downloads per year. Our newsletters between our sites and forum have close to 50,000 members and yet we get rejected by some one who still wants to click on our card for their own use.
Please stay away.
Thanks
Rozie

It's funny but I just wrote an article today on Entrecard rejections. Don't feel bad, it happens to the best of us.

I know a couple of top bloggers who got to the top by having the cards then rejecting them after about 20 minutes of being on their blogs.
  3. apretender
I feel you on this one. I've got ECs that I would love to spend but people don't seem to want my advertisement. Which is kind of silly in the first place because all I really wanted was to get people to check out my blog and have a little fun while they're there. I'll happily accept any Entrecard requests you send!
  4. Rozie818
I don't feel bad at all, I lose nothing and everyone of them that I was offering my space on, and they will never be able to be there in the future.
It was more of a comment than a whine. The way we got our sites to work we will get the blogs to as well.
Your article hits it on the head, the whole project I thought was to help each other out, but some people are all about me, myself and me.
  5. daisythecurlycat
I have been rejected a few times, too. At first it hurt my feelings a little bit. After Entrecard added the statistics on rejections, I could see that those sites had very high rejection rates, so I didn't feel so bad.
    1. EavesdropWriter
Hi Daisy, I appreciate your point here about reviewing the blog owner's ad stats and drawing your own conclusions. I do the same. I'm the one who asked for that feature over at EntreCard and I'm happy they responded with the public stats. As for your rejections (and some of mine), I don't think enough bloggers realize the bigger picture with advertising. Too many limit the ads they display to solely their niche content. Of course I understand the logic of target marketing and Adsense, but opportunities are being overlooked. In general, blog readers have many more interests than the niche content they're browsing at the time. Using your blog as an example, who's to say geeks and SEO experts don't also own cats and might find your blog pretty entertaining. That's how I look at the ad requests I get.
  6. Rozie818
BTW I wasn't talking about the Chows of the world, just standard little sites that had just started with entrecard. I don't even attempt to add my card to those guys.
    1. antibarbie
Yeah, the standard little sites tend to go mad with power I think from the rush of all these sites trying to take advantage of the low pricing of a newcomer but it's really just shooting themselves in the foot to go deny crazy with blogs of their own niche.
  7. robinj
Yep I have been rejected too unless a site has really objectional content I dont have a problem approving the adverts
  8. talen32
I accept all ads because I know my readers are a diverse crowd and there are some awesome blogs out there. I'd probably reject the make money online group because anymore those blogs are as bad as spam that no one wants to see...but they don't want to advertise on my site anyway.

Entrecard really needs to re-think how the credits are totaled though. Random drops on your widget shouldn't be the determining factor on price to advertise.
  9. Xight
I add my card to mostly everyone in the most recent sections. I get rejected alot, but well your bound to get rejections when paying 2 credits for an ad =).

Rozie what's your entrecard page I'll go buy an ad from you =)

    NM I found it.
  10. Rozie818
There is no need to get a card from us, appreciate it though.
I was just bringing to the surface that some people act like they are better than others, and usually those are the ones that aren't.
I accept all ads, just to let others have a chance at some traffic.
But thanks for the support, we are always here to do the same. ;-)

iv been having good fun on entre card, changing my cards and watching how people react and getting comments on entrecard saying its funny.

but its all good, rozie ill bu one as well and Xight thanks the mention!
    1. Xight

  12. friedclyde
i mean its all good now so im sharing the joy !
  13. friedclyde
haha get ready for my next entre card message

oops i could have used the edit sorry folks
  14. ghostytwofish
Then again, if you're that high up on your horse, a little rejection might be just what you need. If your blog is so great, what do you care about some small-fry rejecting your ad?
  15. varniticula
yeah I got a few rejections because I didn't have EC long enough... but EC is only like month and a half old and I was using it for 2 weeks. The killer was that are sites worked rather well together - similar but different.

Also I pretty much leave comments for people I visit. Now I accept all cards, but I'm starting a new thing where if you don't comment you don't get advertised. I don't think that sounds unfair.
  16. friedclyde
yeah i think maybe thats a good way to change the low visit time that entre card users have but most people do it just to drop em i think i will begin to leave comments as well hmm
  17. Rozie818
    ghostytwofish
I don't ride horses and I do not claim my blog is great, how great can it be if I am using blogger. The rejection is not a matter of pride it is a matter of working together. I happen to like small fries and have been going out of my way for years to help them.

I do not expect anything from anyone, my comments are because too many other people are busy riding horses.

You'd have to figure since the program is free, what harm does it do to let people place their cards on your site for a day. So if you read and absorb you'll see I let everyone place a card, my horses do not get in my way.
    1. ghostytwofish
"We pull in 250,000 unique viewers a year, plus have over a million downloads per year. Our newsletters between our sites and forum have close to 50,000 members and yet we get rejected by some one who still wants to click on our card for their own use."

That's a pretty big horse you've led in. I didn't come here to whine about rejection, you did. 250K uniques a year?! A million DLs?! If I had that traffic, some small blog rejecting my ad wouldn't even make me blink.

I think rejections are entirely random. Don't worry about it. Put your ad with whoever takes it. It is kind of like throwing darts at a balloon during a carnival. Sometimes the balloon pops, other times it just bounces off.

The one thing which gets me more than the rejections is the categories. I am in a category with exactly three people in it books. The money category has over a hundred people, and the personal blogs have over eighty people.

Is it just me, or is it just weighted towards money madness. They need to get more arts blogs in there.
    1. libdrone
Now that I have taken the plunge, I am finding what I want to do more than anything else is get a third blogger who actually blogs about books into entrecard to knock off the current number three, who seems to have put his blog into the books category just because there are so few blogs there so he is number three in "books", even though reading his damned blog I couldn't find a single effin post about books. feh
    2. antibarbie
      Report his/her butt Alan
    3. libdrone
      Dawn,

It doesn't appear that they care or make any effort to determine if the blog is appropriately categorized. I have a Horrible allergy to what I call the "content-free-all-about-making-money-blogging-not-that-I've-made-any" type blogs and from what I have seen, there are blogs of this sort in Every category. Clearly these would-be non-money-makers realize it is much easier to get noticed in a category with only a handful of blogs.

I would love to see My Den put up a real widget and market into the third spot. I don't want to complain to entrecard. I think it better to bury the content-free rather than censor them.
  19. Rozie818
Agree with you, there should be more artsy blogs, but like you said money is the main focus on a lot of blogs and they all think that having their card on other blogs looking to make money will help them.
And that is my point, having a card on someones site is no big deal, it's just a courtesy, you can expect too much out of it. Sure you can say, hey look at my traffic today, but was it a good line of traffic?
Our forum used to people asking for site checks all day long, like another web designer is gonna by a website from you. It's just people popping in, nothing more.
Outside traffic is what you are really looking for. People following keywords to match their needs. The cards are free, lol, what are people doing trying to hold out for a better price?
My whole concept of the post is people are acting like it's some sort of pay for space and acting the way they do, I personally rather not deal with them in the future since their colors already shown through. They judged a blog by it's cover, and not by what motivated it in the first place.
  20. Rozie818
That's a pretty big horse you've led in. I didn't come here to whine about rejection, you did. 250K uniques a year?! A million DLs?! If I had that traffic, some small blog rejecting my ad wouldn't even make me blink.

It's not a big horse at all, the rejections make me blink because, as I said, it's a free service to help each other out.
I guess I forgot to mention that, 95% of those downloads are free. And if you think that traffic is good then you have yourself a resource at your disposal.
Members of our newsletter get free stuff all the time and resource etc.
The numbers I put up is nothing to brag about, it's a lot of hard work, it's a lot of time, and energy we put into for 2 people.
So, if you feel I was trying to post impressive numbers I am sorry that it was mistaken, for that. It's was point that someone, didn't even bother to look at what they was rejecting, we do have something to offer. Like I said above, The blog was being judged by it's cover.
    1. ghostytwofish
Well, those are impressive numbers. I'd say you've got it going on with traffic like that. Give yourself some credit, that's not too shabby.
  21. Rozie818
Like I said, hell of a lot of work.
Keeping them is even harder, but we try.
I'm really not one to give myself credit, I guess it's a bipolar thing and I appreciate your comment for the positive.
That is why I don't look at someones place on the web as a nothing, very few can start off like a digg or whatever, if they have $ to back them, most of use still need food on the table and we have to work with what we have.
    Thanks

iv rejexted one card i couldbnt find it it had vz on it and it was full of naked woman
    1. ghostytwofish
Hey, I like naked women. :o)

Don't be so petty and silly I was rejected many times and rejected many because I had too many and I didn't want to go over a week. Also what would be the point of taking ads of sites you don't like or don't think your readers would like? None.

It's a free system it pretty silly to go around calling people twits.

I don't think they have a great system yet anyway a system that allows people to accept and then reject like that is a very poor system, not very well thought out.
    1. jpearce
I think it's a great system because people voluntarily weed themselves out.

Yes it is free and you only get credits but the beauty lies in the incentives it creates. My traffic was boosted which is important for Alexa rank but I have already used, teamed up whatever you want to call it with other like minded people.

That is what the service is really there for to network.

Honestly some people don't know how to network even if you show them how.
  24. Rozie818
Petty and silly? to make a point that some people are too self absorbed?

When you start threads in a forum like:
"Please don't give me a blog to read I can find my own."
I find that to be petty and silly, if someone wants to post about their blog, don't read it if it bothers you. That is your right.

If I feel that some people act too Godly, then that is my right.

I take the ads because it helps other people, entrecard is a new system, but if it turns into a buddy system then it's a waste of time.
  25. jpearce
I wouldn't be too miffed. People do not understand that Entrecard is a business card exchange.

It's their business if they want run themselves into the ground.

I've been rejected a few times too but you don't see me promoting any of their posts or sites. The best part is when you get the rejection and you look at their sites you know exactly why they didn't use you.

What is that saying I've been insulted by better?

Some really great sites have approved me and some lowly sites have told me to hit the road. Oh well.

You hit the nail on the head.
  26. Majik
I've had quite a few rejections on Entrecard, the latest one, I guess they just didn't like my card, because it was rejected before I could even visit their page. I try to read posts on the blogs that I'd like to advertise on, and sometimes if I feel like adding a footprint to leave behind other than my card, I'll comment. I guess some people just don't want you to visit their blog. No skin off my back, I don't mind being refunded the credits, more for some one else right?
  27. libdrone
reading all of this back and forth I am not feeling any strong urge to rush over and sign up with entrecard. For those of you who are using it, are you getting good traffic from the ads you place?
    1. Majik
I've definitely seen an improvement in traffic, depends on the traffic of the blog it runs on.
    2. Xight
      Alan:

I'm getting roughly 30-40 hits a day so far. Mostly its from people dropping off cards. After almost two weeks its about 250 visitors 80% new with average page view time of about 30 seconds to a minute, bounce rate of almost 90%.

From the ads I've placed I've gotten about 120 visitors, 80% bounce rate, average visit times roughly the same.

I haven't gotten onto any very high traffic sites yet. One ad brought in about 20 visitors so far (and I only paid 2 credits for that ad).

Its alot better than Blogrush, so you might as well join now while people are still joining/clicking/buying ads. Once it stabilizes I think the high traffic sites will take the widget off as it doesn't benefit them much I think. Just takes up ad space.
    3. EavesdropWriter
Hi Alan, I'm getting decent traffic not just from my ads, but from click throughs from the EntreCard site itself. Viewers can click on your e-card from the "campaign" page of the EntreCard site and be directed to your blog. I've gotten 377 such clicks since signing up 2 weeks ago. I've also gotten 17 more RSS subscribers in that time period, not to say if they're all from Entrecard. As for clicks from ads I've placed, I've bought 10 ads and gotten a total of 149 clicks. No way to tell if they're from unique visitors, but hey it's a free service so I'll take it.
    4. libdrone
what strikes me about your experience, Mitch, is that you are definitely getting traffic from it, but don't seem to be getting readers from it. Since I moved to WP and a new domain I got Stumbled on my main page and I am getting steady traffic from stumbleupon every day, so my traffic is way up, but I am not seeing many comments and not sure the traffic has any correlation to readers. and the tags on my older posts got toasted in the move so I am having to go back and re-do them one by one and not getting much from search results until this is finished.

      Vienne,

Your results do sound like you are definitely getting more readers from this so I suppose I will take the plunge this weekend or next week.

Thanks to all three of you for sharing your experience.

this has been happening to me recently. i guess people are gaming the system. in the beginning. they take the offers and once the price goes up. they remove and take the new offers. i see a lot of the new guys doing this.
    1. suburbqueen
Could it also be that the "new guys" don't know what they are doing yet?
  29. Kabalyero
You can always check the stats shown before you advertise if the cancellation of approved ads is high then don't bother advertising to that blog. Hello to everyone, by the way.
    1. suburbqueen
      Hello to you as well
    2. blackzedd
      Hello! (tempted to respond )
  30. wehireu
I am getting decent traffic from it libdrone. If you joined, you could join books, there are only 3 people in the category, you would be the fourth. We really need more arts and writing people to join.
  31. melbs1969
i just got accepted to entrecard. i have no clue what i'm doing. i've dropped my card at a couple of blogs but, not sure what that means! i just started a discussion about it because, quite frankly, i'm clueless!
  32. Cromely
I've rejected a couple of ads and have had mine rejected, too. It's fine.

My blog is kind of like my living room. And while I want to see a variety of people, I don't let everyone into my house. My take on ads is that if it's for a blog I'd be interested in reading, I'll approve it. I'll tell my friends (regular readers) to check it out. If I don't feel comforatable doing that for any reason, than I choose not to approve the ad.

But that may just be the wine talking [shrug]

In short, don't worry about it. There are any number of reasons -- some good and some bad -- that people will reject an ad.

Whenever I start worrying about what it means when someone rejects me, I try to remind myself that it's just business. It's just the internet. It's not high school. It's time to let those scars heal.
  33. wehireu
You know, I don't have any recommendations at Entrecard and I'm a bit bored. I am going to ask you to do something experimental. I would like you to put a meaningless statement in the recommendations section for my blog, Book Calendar. Things like eat more carrots, this blog is purple. As long as its not offensive, I don't care what the recommendation says. It can even promote your blog. I know I am being a bit self-centered, but I think it mght be fun.
    1. kopidunia
I tried to look for this "recommendations" section in your blog, but I couldn't find it. Maybe I'm blind, but I need some help here, please...
  34. tetsujin
I got rejected by John Chow...I saved up the 70 credits to get it, then he rejected it after he approved it. Sadly enough by that point his price had gone up to about 140 and I hadn't the money to get it, also the ad spot has been full ever since.

    Cameron
    1. Xight
Not missing much. My ad is up there today, and I think I've gotten about 40 visitors. Did you get your credits back though? I've heard alot of people say they got their credits used up when people did that.
    2. libdrone
fwiw Mitch yesterday a newbie canceled me after my ad had been up and running on his site for several hours (and was drawing some hits) and I did get the two credits back. Obviously who cares on a two credit ad.

Just for the phuque of it I placed an ad on John Cow (not Chow, though lots of folks are saying they are one in the same, Chow using a second persona to dominate a second ec category). the ad was accepted and is slotted for 12/29 but his stats show he rejects over 75% AFTER accepting them, so who knows if it will go live and/or bring traffic.

In any case, I am pleased with the traffic I've gotten from EC so far but will have to wait and see how it is once my "newbie-factor" wears off. I am also trying to make a point of having a review of a book or books that would appeal to readers in the niche my ad is appearing on the day it appears, though this may not always be practical. (Today for instance, my ad is on a house design blog with lots of picture of fantastic houses and my top post is about a book on home design.)
