Just wondering how many of you ever felt like giving up when you started out with your blog. How did you manage to overcome the desire to throw in the towel? How did you build your reading community?

In my blog's early days, when I felt like I was my only visitor, I tried to just concentrate on my content, and then on little positive benchmarks of progress.
Like getting more indexed pages. Or finally getting page rank. Or getting a link from someone new. Things like that. Before you know it, the little things add up to much bigger traffic.
To build readership, I commented on other blogs and got to know people whose own content I appreciated. I joined social media like Twitter and Facebook. I added my site to some credible directories. I made it easy for readers to subscribe or to Follow.
Things like that. It does take awhile to build things up, but being consistent and not throwing in that towel does pay off. -
My blog is still very new, so the feeling of giving up hasn't come just yet. The most important reason for me is that you keep your blog just the way you like it and don't change it because you want more visitors (and by this I mean people who just click and then click further...). It's more fun and interactive if you build up a group who comes back and leave a comment, but this takes time.
All good things in life come when you just wait a little longer ^_^. -
I understand how you feel. I've felt that way too but have to force myself to remember that I'm also writing for myself and even if there are times that I'm the only one reading my blog, there are also times when someone else is. Keep plugging away and visit other people's blogs and leave comments. They just might come and visit you in return.
