I've been asked repeatedly to exchange links with fellow bloggers, but I have been waiting for blogs that are of like mind, or kindred spirit blogs, otherwise it has made no sense to me.
I finally have someone I would like to exchange links with, but I'm not sure how to do it. Do you add it as a widget?

Never mind, I figured it out. How about the rest of you...do you exchange links with anyone who asks?

Absolutely not. It's bad for your blog and doesn't do them much good, either. Link exchanges, in fact, aren't all that much help to anyone, since Google seriously discounts reciprocal links. They can be useful as a referral for your readers (in which case you definitely don't want to be indiscriminate). From the perspective of positively impacting search rankings, you would do another blogger a lot more good by writing a post referring to his/her blog or a particular post and linking to it with relevant anchor text than putting the blog in your blog roll.

I'm fairly new at this but I wouldn't be interested in link exchanges. The only blog links I have listed are those I like to read, none of which happen to be in my category. All this page rank stuff and keeping everything on my site within my niche is not high on my radar at the moment.

I don't understand the purpose of link exchanges. I'm more than willing to visit anybody's blog I like, without exchanging links.

NP, the purpose is that inbound links increase your page rank and search rankings with Google and other major search engines. Except that they're smart enough to know (and have been for years) that just trading links is a way to try to circumvent that system, so it doesn't really work.

Thanks, MadameX. Frankly, all this talk about page rank and increasing traffic gives me an earache.

I delete all link exchange requests. Nothing but rotten spam.
