Discussions

As an extension of Bloggers Against Abuse Day I’d like to carry that theme over to here today.

Let’s all play nice today in our discussions.

At this time I’d like to apologize to anyone that I’ve offended through various thread discussions lately. Not so much for disagreeing on different topics, but simply for the fact that an offense has been taken.

Disagreements are going to happen, but what I’d like to see (myself included) is leaving vitriol/spiteful comments out of the equation when responding in threads. And who knows, one day can pass without it, then perhaps another, then another, and before you know it a week can go by. Then perhaps even longer.

And that’s pretty much it. Now I’m off like a frat boy on a panty raid to check out the blogs blogging about abuse today.

Have a super day all!

And wow...has it been tough for everyone to get in here today?
    1. Norski
      Yep. For me, anyway.
  2. crkian
It has been tough, what flavour is the olive branch
    1. monkeytale
      Crow, I think.
  3. freaksauce
    tough... so tough...
  4. Norski
Being nice: Not a bad idea.

I think the concept is also called courtesy, sometimes diplomacy.

    Actually, it's a good idea.

Reminds me of a definition of diplomat: someone who can step on your toes without scuffing them.

BTW: I hope you checked out the start of my 'blogging for hope' post(s) before making your statement.

In brief, I'm blogging in support of short people.
  5. suburbqueen
Great idea and yes...been trying to get on for over and hour and finally got through!
  6. crpitt
I have just got here properly at last!

Very nice idea, i will keep my venom inside today
  7. scorpy01
I've away due to wonky DSL. I missed something I guess. But if Mikster has been incorrigible, I volunteer to spank him.

(See what happens when I'm deprived of adequate internet access? I get all weird. And stuff.)
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
You plan to USE the olive branch for that, Scorpy? Because, you know, spas charge bigtime for that sort of thing. :-)
    2. crpitt
I suppose these comments are allowed as i am sure mikester would like this
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
I think Mikster can handle it. :-) If not, we'll extend to him a laurel and hardy handshake.
    4. monkeytale
      Spank? *perk*

    5. crkian
Wait let me get my camera out
    6. scorpy01
Oh, I knew that would get your attention.
    7. monkeytale
Yeah, yeah. But isn't it a comfort to know the predictability of the male species?... lol
  8. zawadi
As long as I keep my mouth closed and in internet terms that is "commenting"
    I am a good girl 0_o
    1. monkeytale
No, no, no, no one is advocating keeping one's mouth shut. Disagreements are par for the course in some discussions. Healthy debate even. We just had a few people getting into name calling which never solves anything. There's nothing wrong with posting your thoughts just because they're polar opposite of someone else's. Or for that matter calling someone out when things get a little ridiculous/ludicrous, just leave the name calling out is what I'm getting at.

Or the use of profanity since we have some kids in here as well.

      :))
  9. gmoney
After having a recent spat in the community I would agree 100%.
    1. bnsullivan
Hmm, maybe someone should start a BC group for spats. Then when one arises, the parties to it can be invited to move it to a thread in the Spat Group!
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
      What-- for BlogCatalog Cagematches? :-)

No, I prefer the happier, less angsty, less over-the-top olive-branchy Blog Catalog myself.

I get enough stress at my real job. :-)
  10. zawadi
    BlogCatalog Cagematches hahahaha
  11. zawadi
    BlogCatalog Cagematches hahahaha
    1. crpitt
Meant for thread below! But i do like the idea of Cagematches

      Twas very sad indeed
I drank and drank coffee, until i felt ill
    2. monkeytale
I'll bet you had to pee a lot too. Chalk that up to bladder abuse.

    3. crpitt
Ha! yes the bladder was abused
  12. TonyB
    BlogCatalog had SERVER ABUSE.

Out of all the days for this to happen.
    1. monkeytale
lol....Twas very sad this morning. I didn't get enough of this place before having to trudge off to work. But it's all good now.
    2. Norski
      Sorry, newbie here.

      "SERVER ABUSE" ?
    3. clioandme
A joke, Norski. See thegoodknife's explanation of what happened today on another thread.
  13. lordlikely
I would happily accept some olives from your olive branch, ideally in a cocktail of some description.
    1. bnsullivan
      Dirty martini anyone??
    2. legbamel
With Lord Likely involved, I think dirty is our only option. I'm surprised he hasn't lined up for the leafy spanking.
  14. MyDen
Great gesture and timely too (esp.with all the recent spats in some threads). And you definitely have nothing to apologize for as i doubt you have offended anyone. Good point about kids.
  15. Importjap
    Good on ya mate

Yeah I vehemently disagree with some people on here but, I don't hate em, so I'm extending some chocolate to you
    1. monkeytale
Can I substitute a Pepsi for the chocolate?
    2. Importjap
Sure, one is probably as fattening as the other
  16. Nomadic
Actually I think a better description of a diplomat is "a diplomat these days is nothing more than a Header Waiter who is occasionally allowed to sit down". Not that I am bitter. Yes being nice. It's what we Brit's do best.
    1. ender
why are you digging up threads from september of last year? just curious.
    2. daniel23
wow, this is an old thread! wtf...
  17. daniel23
I already feel warm and fuzzy inside.
  18. timethief
Warm, fuzzy and sucked in again ... a 30 day no activity thread closure policy/practice would be cool
    1. Nomadic
No way. Bring back the better ones I say. It has worked for you guys. A 3 minute small minded activity closure policy/practice preferable.
    2. globalgirl
Ha! I like your response Nomadic. You see that some bring up old threads and it is "excusable" while others do and get questioned. Being the diplomatic one , you deserve a welcome to BC. That being said, welcome aboard!

This is an appropriate thread, all the time.
    3. timethief
Closing a thread does not remove it from the forum searchbox. That thread is still retrievable and it can be linked to when starting a new thread on the same subject.

Therefore, I don't see any problem with closing threads. I'm not sure what possible advantage may be perceived for having mile long threads that one has to scroll and scroll and scroll to get to the end so they can post.

If you see some advantage to be gained then will you please state what you perceive that advantage to be?
  19. steveffeo
Great idea:) and also help others when you can (without loosing your shirt)
Which is stronger water or rock? Be like water.
    Peace
  20. flamingpoodle
    Olives?
Good idea. But screw being like water.

    Be like vodka.
    And be like dry vermouth.
    Shaken, not stirred.
    1. steveffeo
I thought they added water to make vodka:)?
    2. flamingpoodle
Yes, but it is not water once they made vodka out of it.
Try freezing a bottle of water. Then try freezing a bottle of vodka.

Water has bacteria in it. It is unhealthy.
  21. Nomadic
Thanks Globalgirl. I had no intention of being a smart alec....surprised at the query on my attention to dates...I always was a bit slow and I figured anything was safe in a forum that was promoting "being nice". I was merely seeking relief and keeping ranting for my blog. By the way I love the Global thing - do you know of Derreck Ashong? Have you heard of theshiftmovie.com? I think it would be right up your street.....
  22. JacobDiv
I have not seen abuse going over too well in this community. I would say this community has the most sensitive nose for abuse of any I have been in, except maybe Paranoid Anonymous. :-)

I am a major abuser, which I did not know till I got here.

One of my main goals in life is to never abuse anyone.
    1. TonyB
      mister..is this abuse anonymous?
    2. Nomadic
      You sound confused
    3. JacobDiv
      Definitely confused.
    4. JacobDiv
My abuse anonymous? No, it's just called to my attention. I am really careful to not repeat offense. However, my perception is that the principle "once an abuser always an abuser" might be common wisdom. So, I guess I have no real hope, but I am trying anyway. peace.
  23. offendedblogger
    Awww!!

    That was so nice.
  24. Nomadic
A lesson on "being nice" inspired by the discussion "what would you change?"

    nomadic-wisdom.blogspot.com/

Not a very good one, but there you are. I tried.
  25. clioandme
This is just bizarre. A discussion ripped completely out of context more than half a year later. Are you listening to the suggestions about this, BC? Timethief has a pragmatic idea above.
    1. daniel23
who cares? or are you saying you're against niceness?
  26. Nomadic
I think he must be. He has the lull of a seasoned ranter, bless. Come now, stoneman shurely there ARE things more bizarre? Switch off the screen if it does irk you so. Never has the name Timethief been more fitting.
  27. timethief
Thanks for noticing how appropriate my username is. I thought it was perfect for someone who had outlived a medical death sentence and that's why I chose it. I appreciate your nice comment.
