I use Facebook to keep in touch with people who I know or have met in person.

Do you think I should use it to keep in touch with people who have a blog in the same niche as me as well?

Is it wise to mix it and use Facebook for personal and professional needs?

That depends what you have on your facebook profile.

If you have personal info that you wouldnt feel comfortable sharing in a professional environment, then keep your facebook for personal needs.

Yes, that's a very good point.

Personal for me. I agree with Arnous though.

Well, everyone has facebook even company's use it so I guess it depends on each one how to define your facebook profile.

I admit just to be there because many people share it but not really active.

This is a good topic to bring up because I just had a client try to add me on there. So I have to remove all my references to pointlessbanter.net and my feed that comes through there if I want to add her.

    Like two worlds are colliding.

It depends. My standard facebook profile is mostly personal, however I do utilize the blog networks application there, and have set up a page that is for professional purposes

Mine is for professional use only. And friend requests are not accepted in Facebook. All contacts are referred to an e-mail.

many of us love Face book. I think the applications of Face book makes it more popular than anyone else. Another good thing about face book is its privacy for member that it offers. But the applications are life of face book. Um, my favorite is honesty box. Though I have used it very rarely, but this is one option I loved. Another option I like is send flowers. When ever I am free I keep sending lots of flowers to my friends.

tons of people at my work requested me as a friend so it's sort of a personal/prof account. Obviously I have to share things that I'm comfortable with my coworkers knowing, however; it isn't like my boss is on there, so it can be sort of personal.

Yea, but those are people who you've met right? I was asking more about blogging people - people who I've never met!

A bit of a hybrid. The vast majority of my facebook friends are people I know, and I don't ever accept requests from strangers or even people I've just seen in forums and such. I do usually accept requests from people I know only through blogging, though, if they are people I've known for some time and interacted with directly.

I think there's value in using FB the other way, but I wouldn't do it with the same account--it would be a completely different kind of interaction.

I use facebook for work reasons -- to connect with readers (I'm a novelist). So I'm the opposite to Mme X i.e I say yes to all "be my fb friend" requests and have made some very interesting connections. I can't see the point of FB for personal use -- personally, I find it too impersonal

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people we don't get to keep in touch with in everyday life--or at least, I don't. On Facebook I see updates from people I only see or talk to once every few months on an almost daily basis, and reconnect with old high school and college friends I haven't kept in close touch with. Sometimes that turns into something more extensive offline--like finding out someone is living just a few miles away--and sometimes it never moves beyond brief messages here and there, but keeps me up to date with people I might otherwise have lost touch with. I can't email 100 acquaintances every day, even with a brief couple of lines, but 100 acquaintances can scan my status updates and I theirs and know when there's reason to get in direct touch.

that's an excellent point. keep everyone in the loop all at once

Facebook is more of a personal site. LinkedIn is a truly professional site if you are looking for networking.

Mine is both personal and professional. Haven't had a problem yet. I just don't share really personal information. :-)
