You can invite 5 people, living or dead (dead people will not be coming as corpses...that would be messy), no need to worry about what people would talk about or who would get on etc. ...just list the 5 people you would love to have dinner with and why...

I'll get the ball rolling:
1. Stephen Fry - because he is the nicest, smartest, wittiest, politest...I'm slightly obsessed with him!
2. Katharine Hepburn - because she was so funny, intelligent, striking and progressive.
3. Saladin - because he was such an impressive general, leader and individual.
4. Richard Dawkins - Because he's so interesting and charming and he could tell me all about Darwin and evolution.
5. Martin Carthy - So we could listen to him perform for us, and he could tell us folk stories and tales of his 50 years in the folk scene.

depends on what kind of dinner party we're talking about.

This is too hard to decide on the spot, but will think about it and get back to you.

There was me thinking it was light-hearted whimsy...I look forward to a really good response!

John Lennon - To balance out with Martin Carthy
Miley Cyrus - To balance out with Richard Dawkins
Mr. Bush - To balance out with Saladin

Then while we're at it throw in:

    Donald Trump,
    Paris Hilton,
just for the fun of it.

Sounds like one wild and crazy party.

1- lorrie moore. my favorite living author. i'd love to talk with her, as i've read a couple of interviews and she seems to be very smart and funny.
2- dizzy gillespie. one of be-bop's founding fathers and a man who loved to talk about the music he made.
3- albert einstein. this one is (haha) a no-brainer.

i'll come back later and add another two, as i am drawing a blank.

  5. MidwestMom
Charlie Chaplin (not silent, of course!)
    Kahlil Gibran
Noam Chomsky (we have to have someone there to be provocative)
Aleksandr Solshenitsyn (to argue with Chomsky -- I'm a intellectual voyeur)
Sophia Loren (We need someone for the men to think they can impress.)

That's my group. And I would be sure to keep the wine and vodka flowing... with lots of great food, of course!
