I was running around everywhere yesterday in a hot car, in and out of stores, client locations, on the cell phone, carrying heavy objects, shopping etc .... and I decided to just stop in at the local KFC/Taco Bell by the shopping centre.

There was a line up in the drive thru, so I went in .. I ordered 4 hard shell tacos, and an Aquafina water, given my "number" and paid. A few minutes later they call my number, and have the 4 tacos on a serving tray. This is pretty much how the conversation went when I stepped up to pick up my food.

SERVER: Would you like hot sauces and condiments with that?

ME: Yes please - one of each.

SERVER: Which hot sauces would you like to have?

ME: All of them. One of each. Thanks.

SERVER: We have Mild sauce Hot sauce and Spicy Sauce

ME: Okay then. Fine. Please give me ONE Mild Sauce, ONE Hot Sauce and ONE Spicy Sauce.

SERVER: Very good. Would you like some ketchup salt or vinegar?

ME: Um .. these are tacos - The sauces will be fine. Thanks.

SERVER: Would you like a napkin?

(this is where I lost it)

ME: WOULD I LIKE A NAPKIN? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

SERVER: We also have dipping sauces Sir.

ME: LISTEN YOU: AM I BEING PUNKED OR SOMETHING? WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU ASK ME IF I WANTED A NAPKIN AND ACTUALLY, WHY DO YOU KEEP NAPKINS BEHIND THE COUNTER? YOU SEE WHAT I HAVE. 4 TACOS. SAUCES. SHOULD I WIPE MY HANDS ON YOUR TABLES? OR WALLS? OR MAYBE YOU PREFER I WIPE THEM ON MY NICE WHITE SHIRT HERE?

ME: AND GEESH - HAVE YOU EVER SEEN OTHER CUSTOMERS IN YOUR LIFE DIP THEIR TACOS IN PLUM SAUCE BEFORE?

(i think there was cheers or clapping in the background from other customers, but it was probably all in my head :D)

SERVER: Here is your napkins. Thank-you Very much

// and, I just sat along a window and ate my tacos and left. I'll probably just make my own tacos next time. //

I am a big tipper when I receive good service at restaurants, and for the serving personnel and fast food joints people who are not generally getting tips, I always try to be polite and have the most respect for them and what they do ..

But - c'mon! I can't believe that one has to ask a customer if he needs a napkin. It's like inviting your friends over for a sit down meal and asking if they want cutlery.
