What blogging clients do you use, and why? Has anyone come across a really great one?

I use w.bloggar, which is okay for writing the basic post, but I still have to go into the draft in WordPress to set the tags and options. Same with ScribeFire, which I use for my LJ.

Windows Live Writer looks interesting, especially the option to use your blog's stylesheet so you can see exactly what the post will look like. Anyone tried it out?

I don't use any client. Just go to my wordpress Dashboard to write.

That's what I usually end up doing, too. Or write a draft in w.bloggar so I have a version saved on my hard drive, then upload and finish it in the Dashboard.

I have a very glitchy dialup connection, so I prefer to do most of my writing offline.

Same here. What I'm talking about is blogging clients like w.bloggar, BlogDesk, etc... little programs that you run from your desktop where you can write and save posts and then upload them straight from there.

They're not essential or anything, but convenient for those of us on dialup.

I love Semagic, it's much better than ScribeFire for LJ, and it works well with a lot of other services too. Semagic is the reason why I updated my blog every day for more than a year.

Ohh, I haven't used Semagic since version 0.0something, but I just downloaded it and it seems much improved. I think I've found my new LJ client. Thanks!

I am using Windows Live Writer. I gave it two reviews. I even got the lead developer from Microsoft on my comments. You can read my reviews here.

Basically, it uses a lot of memory, but you can tweak to lower the memory usage. I used it everyday now. One best feature I like it is "Publish as draft." I can then add description and keywords myself in the wordpress.

Cool. I'll give it a try. Is it a free download?

And I feel kind of dumb because I just found the Custom HTML Tags menu in w.bloggar, which solves one of the major annoyances I had with blogging either from the Dashboard or from a client... I had a bunch of custom styles and always had to look them up to get them right. The custom tags fix that nicely.

You can download it from here.

I just use my wordpress dashboard... but I'll have to check out some of these other options.

I don't think the problem is the client, but rather the choice of tool for the job.

For example--my students produce professional newsletters for clients using InDesign. Awesome stuff. But I advise them NOT to WRITE in InDesign, rather to write in Word and then use InDesign to assemble their productions.

Similarly, while I use Blogger, I don't use it to compose. I use Word, then copy and paste.

There's a plug-in for Blogger that adds a "publish to blog" toolbar in Word. Makes it even easier to use Word to compose posts.

Blogger.com Simple and easy for beginners like me!

I am using Movable Type as my client. I usually just write the story in Word and then copy and paste into the client.

I am Movable Type all the way. But I can't write it in Word and then cut and paste because all my break tags end up eaten and missing. Furniture27, are you using WordPad or something to write your drafts in? How do you manage the breaks?

I started on Blogger - it's a great platform for getting started!
