We have a mini farm and today we are pleased to say we grew by 11 baby pigs. Next week or so we are due somewhere around 12 more. It got me to thinking what is your favorite farm animal and why? Mine is the pig because I found out they are one of the smartest creatures on the planet even ahead of dogs. They are smart, loving (ours are any way love to be petted) and are low mantiance as long as they have mud and food and water they are generally happy.

    Oh congratulations!!

Well I always had this thing for horses. When I was younger I always ran off to the baby goats ^_^. But as long as an animal doesn't bite at me and I can pet it, I'm happy.

you wouldnt like horses if you were around mine. The one that died of a heart attack recently was a mini and he was mean. My daughters horse likes to try to poop on me when I am in on of the rooms at the barn. She backs up to me and brushes me with her tail. I jump and she poops. Nasty and she hasnt gotten me yet as I am faster than she thinks but it is only a matter of time.

....o_O...oh dear! Just work on your skills and stay faster than her!!

I love horses. I had lessons when I was a kid. I loved riding, grooming them.

Yah, I'm with you...horses. I have owned several and I loved everything about them except mucking out the stalls. I have been bitten, kicked, thrown, mooshed up against a barn door, stepped on...you name it, if a horse can do it to you, it's probably been done to me. Don't care...love them anyway!

I got to watch them hit the ground this morning. Much diffrent from the goats we had. They struggles like humans. The pigs just plopped them out with out a problem. She had 11 in no time. I think they are so cute when they are little.

"plopped out" gives me wonderful visual imagery.

Horses will always be my number one choice. I was borne and raised in a family full of horse trainers and very much enjoyed training them myself. Also unlike most people who were raised in cities I was raised in the bush. For many years a horse was my primary means of transportation and my very best friend. Just two winters ago I said goodbye to my chocolate soldiers who were 32 years old and ailing. Rather than allowing them to suffer through another winter with arthritic pain I had them euthanized and I know, without doubt, it was the right thing to do. Pigs are a pretty close second for as you say they are extremely intelligent and affectionate too.

A quote from Churchill springs to mind:

Dogs look upon us as masters, cats look upon us as if they are our superiors, but pigs look on us as equals.

      I like that a lot.

    sheep! they taste so great!!!!

I love owls. Second place goes to pigs and hippos. I wish hippos could be a farm animal. All they need is mud, water and food like pigs. I won't discriminate them for their size. And I would name my hippo MOTO MOTO. I heart chunky

I hope it's ok to share pictures to links to what I am talking about.

I like chickens the most. I have one that has always came up the hill to my house and knocked on my door to get me up. Once I get up and go out and feed her she wont come back to the house. She is a hoot.

Here you can see what I mean:

I also like my angoras (rabbits.) They are so darn sweet. Most of them are pretty lazy but I have had a couple that were funny as can be.
Here is a link to one of them playing with one of our dairy goats (please ignor my voice.)

Horses are great. I have had them pretty much my whole life. I enjoy them but for some odd ball reason I don't really think of them as a "farm animal.." Most of my farm animals give me a product back. My horses still give me love of course (and a good ride) but we don't use them to plow or anything like that.

Here is one of our videos of our horse Shiloh. She likes to play with you.

Goats are pretty neat too but they are FULL of trouble. It's always something with them.
Here's a couple video's of some of our goats born this year.

I think sheep are just entirely too cute. I love their fluff and little facial expressions. A happy skipping lamb is cute-overload.
