  1. Epicharis
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind

I never found Jim Carrey funny, but comic performers always seem to be very impressive in sad roles.

We agree...did you like him in The Number 23? or Man on the Moon?
    2. nothingprofound
Ditto. That's was a good one.
    3. Epicharis
I liked The Number 23, but I've never gotten round to watching Man on the Moon.

Could also be said of Bill Murray. I liked many of this dramatic roles more than the comedic ones. Rushmore, Life Aquatic, and other Wes Anderson films, I think, count as both.

      M Off to view it

Doing Time at Maple Drive. It's an old TV movie before he became a full time comedian. His role is that of an older brother to a gay character. I love his acting there!

We'll have to check that one out! An oldie by Carrey that we enjoyed was 'Earth Girls Are Easy'...a completely ridiculous movie, but worth watching!

It's a toss up for me. Either the original Ace Ventura, sorry I'm not a fan of number two, or Liar, Liar.

I thought the Truman Show was AMAZING... And The Majestic showed how good he actually could be...

But Carrey isn't one of my Top 5...

He's in my top 10 tho.
  5. Rory
I enjoyed his acting chops in The Majestic, but it wasn't a favourite. You know, I actually enjoyed Yes Man. That and Liar, Liar.
    1. dcarroll
I forgot about Yes Man. I liked that as well.
    2. Rory
Funny that The Majestic just played on TV ... just reconfirms my opinion of this movie and Carrey's acting. Well done.
  6. tomirarosser
    Fun with Dick and Jane

Yes, the Truman show. I also liked that. And I admit it-I thought Mask was hilarious.
    1. Epicharis
Yes, The Truman Show was really good...and heartbreaking
    2. Friday13
      And paranoia-inducing.

      There might be cameras everywhere!
    3. scifigene
      Might be...
  8. Sam1982
Yes man - only because Rhys Darby is the man!

As much as I love Jim Carey's comedy, I really loved his dramatic roles. He was brilliant in The Truman Show. His acting touched my heart and made me cry. I also loved him in The Majestic.

    Liar, Liar.
    1. liggybee
Yes, I remember that one he was both very funny and sentimental in that one.

I'll have to go with Ace Ventura as well.
  12. dsriharsha
    The Truman Show
  13. Chucklington
Probably The Truman Show, but Dumb And Dumber is a guilty pleasure. The owl getting killed by a cork is one of highlights.
  14. SweetViolet
The Majestic. I actually bought the DVD (I seldom buy DVDs) so I could watch it again. I was in Ferndale (where it was filmed) for a getaway weekend during the time it was being filmed so I actually saw the way they had changed the town for the movie...it was fascinating to watch the movie later and make comparisons!

I don't like his comedy roles at all. But the Majestic was wonderful.
  15. JaneTurley
Hmm..not sure which one but I do like his comedy roles. He can do such wonderful things with his face and body. Reminds me very much of Jerry Lewis. A unique brand of silliness:)
  16. scifigene
Carrey was perfectly cast in The Truman Show - and in Eternal Sunshine.

    Cable Guy/Truman Show

Jim Carrey Is my favorite actor, all of his movies are fantastic (maybe not Bruce Almighty though :S)

I liked The Cable Guy because of it's different settings in each scene and the Movies Moral which is always nice to have in a movie.

The Mask was also fantastic, as it was so comic-like.

      MASK ALL THE WAY
  18. kcrisman
Either eternal sunshine or truman show, although I think I would have liked either one even if he had not been in the starring role. It's possible I might have liked them even more ... but truman show was probably a good fit.
  19. Agit8r
the original Ace Ventura. it all went downhill from there...

if we are counting his TV roles; Fire Marshall Bill takes the cake
  20. kellygreen
I liked him in the Grinch. Also, Liar Liar and Yes Man. Truman Show was great.
  21. HollytheHousewife
