My brother said something last night - their son is 12 days old and he said "I just know he's gonna be a jock....I'll have to have a daughter so she'll watch Victor/Victoria with me." I realized then what a profound impact musicals had on all of us kids... So much so that I've just written a posting on my most treasured musicals (and how they helped shape me.)
So then I wondered - surely there are other musical lovers out there?? Come on, share with us - what's your favorite? I'll start - Best Little Whorehouse in Texas starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. The music, the choreography - and of course, Dolly's hit, "I will always love you" which was also a hit for Whitney Houston.....

Oh I do like musicals! I haven't seen too many though. Up till now I really loved The Lion King. I have the original cast recordings. I also saw a small production of Jekyll & Hyde. Which was really good!

I love them - and talking to my brother last night, I realized how much we all did (my mother wouldn't let us watch tv and she loves musicals - thus, four children who love them as well). Check out my blog for a list of some great must-sees!

My dad and mom love music, so we basically grew up listening to a huge variety. And we didn't watch too much TV either. I will check out your blog!

I LOVED the musical CATS. It's a great story, and all the costumes/make up were amazing! x

that is one I have actually never seen (ashamed) - I think once there was SO much hype about it, I purposely avoided it!
    2. slimmingsolutions
Yeah - there was a lot of hype about it but with good reason I think I would love to see The Lion King that TJlubrano has seen, and also Never Forget, but that has just finished for now x

Most recently, I've enjoyed Mel Brooks' "The Producers" and "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog"-- not your standard musicals, of course, but fun.

Les Miserables and I saw the closing show of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which was great. Ferris Buehler screwed up a bunch of times with his lines, but he was very funny in how he got out of the mistakes.

Les Miserables is definitely my favorite of all time too.
    2. DollinNYC
I saw Les Mis three times on Broadway! Loved it!

Miss Saigon was great too, as well as Grey Gardens The Musical.

Carmen !! I know it's an opera but also a musical in the general meaning, right?
    1. sjtavo
      absolutely!!

Carmen was the first opera I ever saw performed live. And a favorite.

My boyfriend LOVES musicals, so I've had to go see quite a few with him. However, being the Disney freak that I am, I loved the Little Mermaid when it was on Broadway. Disney always puts on a good show.

Planet of the Apes the Musical

I'm not sure if that actually exsists, but if it does, it's GOTTA rock.

Something that I am guessing no one here has heard of - 'Shockheaded Peter'. It was a musical adaptation of Dr. Heinrich Hoffman's "Struwwelpeter" with music by the Tiger Lillies.

We also went to see their show "Suicide for Christmas"

I saw Les Miserables as a teenager and it made a really profound impact on me- both in terms of just appreciating theatre as well as living a principled life.

Sweeney Todd hmm...you just gotta love those razors.
    1. MidwestMom
What I first saw Sweeney Todd, I was amazed that they could or would make essentially a slasher musical. It's a creepy one.
  31. TonyB
    Les Mis by far.
