I am going to a BBQ today and I was asked to bring a side dish. I always have issues deciding what to make that everyone would (hopefully) enjoy. I decided to make this chipotle dip stuff I developed a while ago because I know it is a crowd pleaser.
So when faced with the ultimate dilemma of what side dish to bring to a party, which dish do you fall back on that never fails you?

Make some homemade pizza dough, and cut up a bunch of fixings
When you get there throw the pizza on the grill. Slice it up, and you have yummy sides
Or a grilled bread and tomato salad with red onions, sliced peppers and fresh basil. -

I love cooking, but hate taking things to other peoples parties.
So I just buy a nice bottle of wine and a shop bought but yummy cheesecake. -
I went to a BBQ not so long ago. Guests were asked to be creative with the food they brought along, I didn't have a clue, so decided to take Home Made Yorkshire Puddings and a Huge Jug of Beef Gravy. Sounds strange for a BBQ but everyone enjoyed.

I think a potato salad with the simplest recipe is perfect, really good potatoes cooked and chilled (new potatoes are good, with some skin on), homemade mayo plus some hard boiled eggs, chopped vidalia onion, celery and perhaps some pickle(sweet or dill, your choice). Salt and pepper to taste and voila, cool and perfect for summer.
And the yorkshire pudding with gravy, that is definitely a great idea, classic yet unexpected at a BBQ. -

I usually take a version of this salad.
Very simple, super fast and goes over extremely well.
2 tomatoes, sliced ½” thick
8 Fresh basil leaves
4 Oz. bocconcini cheese (Buffalo mozzerella), drained and sliced ½” thick
Cup olive oil
Tsp balsamic vinegar (I prefer the thick balsamic vinegar)
Salt and pepper to taste
On a platter, arrange a layer of tomato slices. Top with sliced cheese and a basil leaf. Just before serving, drizzle with oil and vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste.
I prefer to serve it in a long slim platter and have the tomato/cheese/basil alternating, usually do 2 rows of them. Makes for a lovely presentation -

Everybody liked my spaghetti even though it was a little spicy, I'm happy! -
Guacamole dish! with wonderful organic heirloom tomatoes which are in season right now, mmmmm!
In general, when choosing a dish, staying with ingredients that are seasonal will never fail you - you get the best nutrients and taste guaranteed!
