I am fascinated by spiders, they are industrious in a laid back kind of way. I took a photograph this afternoon of a stripey little chap who'd made a huge web which was full of flies and leaves. He was chomping on what looked like a moth.

What insect do you most admire?

I like the Dung beetle because even though he has a shitty job you never hear him complaining about it.
His attitude is "This shit won't roll its self!" I like that. -

The Rhinocerous beetle are stronger - they can live 850 X their weight.
"To put this into perspective, if a human of average height and weight had the strength of the rhinoceros beetle, it would be able to lift a 65 ton object"

I like ladybugs (the real ones, not those orangy things that are now passing for ladybugs but bite), crickets, and dragonflies. My sister is really partial to locusts. My mom likes those little roly-poly things that curl up in a ball when they get scared. I mention all this because when it came up a few years ago (right after my sister randomly said, "Locusts are my favorite bug", I was very surprised to learn that almost everyone I knew HAD a favorite insect.

I like cricket and I like Buddy holly and crickets.

Even though I allergic to mosquito saliva and swell horribly, and even though I am so violently allergic to yellow jacket wasp stings that I must inject epinephrine or stop breathing, I would not want to live in a world that lacks insects. My favorites are ants, dragonflies, fireflies and butterflies.

I like spiders, too, although I probably lean toward butterflies (they're just so pretty!)
Some shots of our local spiders here; lucidflora.blogspot.com/2008/09/1st-hike-of-autumn-2008.html-
Ugh! Spiders are horrifying. I seem to get spider bites in my sleep...on my face! We have some horrifying spiders here in South Africa and I do NOT want them in my house!
I have my house sprayed twice a year to keep the bugs out of it. I don't care if they live in my garden, but they must stay out of my house!

Spiders are not insects. They are arachnids. They have eight legs, and the structure of their body (the thorax and abdomen) is not that of insects... Anyway, my favorite insect is the preying mantis... It's flesh-eater, it doesn't spread germs and it doesn't smell...

Hmm, then maybe this thread should be titled 'What is your favorite Bug? Though insects they may not technically be, they are still considered bugs, lol.
And I WAS going to say Praying (with an 'A') Mantis, but not if they are 'flesh eaters'. I don't think ours around here do that, but no thanks if there is even an inkling of an iota of possibility they will eat my flesh. I'll pass. But they sure do have adorable little tilts of the head as though they are truly listening to your every word and contemplating what you are saying on a deeper level.

I'm fascinated by any type of insect actually.
But I'm impressed by bees because they:
- have a great sense of coordination
- they make honey which is not scientifically reproducible (so honey is amazingly unique)
- they help other plants in pollination
- they are very clean and hates dirty smells or environment
Well, bees are simply wonderfully amazing
Btw, I wrote an article on insects which hopefully you read here: wakish.info/insects-directly-linked-with-life-forms-on-earth/

beetles-they're so varied. My 6 yr old loves bugs, so I'm constantly helping him find bugs. We have found some extremely large and beautiful beetles in the mountains. He loves catching giant stag beetles that have the horn on their head. An added bonus, I don't have to worry about beetles biting or stinging.

cutest would have to be the lady beetle and the freakiest the tranatula spider YIKKEES! but are spiders really insects? they have eight legs so maybe not.

Cockraches....i kill them when they approach my food recipes.
