A facebook pal, Ali contacted me about this issue. I am clearly NOT a football fan, but as a writer he thought I might be able to help....

I thought I would bump this up again as there are only 18 days left to appeal to FIFA. I see this post has some readers if no comments....

The problem is that it was reported by a couple of other teams at the start of the qualifiers and by iraq in the first game. Why wait until after you are out to complain.

The bloke had 2 passports, 2 names and 2 different lives.

Ah well. You may be right, but I will support anything that bashes the decadance of Gulf States.

As I mentioned, I am betrothed to a Sheffield Wednesday fan...so I have nothing to add.

Really? Are Qatar that good? I love supporting the underdog, so quite delighted to hear Iraq are a bad football team.

qatar are really bad as well but they had about 60% of the play in that game

VERY impressed that you watched it. Clearly I am talking to an absolute expert.

Yeah. Iraq definitely deserve the three points!

Maybe there's something else in the rulebooks that helps Qatar. Maybe Qatar paid FIFA off; God knows they have the cash to do it.

I suspect the teams who did complain were economically depraved countries. If that's so you might have your answer right there.

    Football for Oil?

      No. That would be cliche.

I'm just saying that because there have been a number of controversies (especially corruption) with FIFA. So ... maybe, just maybe Qatar paid them off.
