    I would buy a well insulated house, then add some solar panels and a wind turbine, get an underground heating system and rainwater collectors. That way I would have a nice and cheap house to live in, and be all covered for electricity and heating if I get poor later.
    Not entirely sure a million dollars would be enough, though...
