There are a lot of people who will follow your blog just so you can "return the favour"...I will gladly help in any way I can..but those "nice blog, I followed you now you follow me" are a wee bit insulting..

Don't you think?

I only follow blogs I really like and don't expect it in return. I prefer followers that are actually interested in reading my blog.

I don't see the point of racking up followers that aren't really interested.

    But to each there own.

I don't do "follower trades". I prefer to have a real number of followers.

I'm not sure if many people bother "following" really. It's not important, and doesn't really boost your site traffic by anything so it's not worth worrying about. It's just a nice, interesting feature.

I agree, I love having a small network of people and read their work, some are very inspiring, some have great design..but those "trades" ..Idk..

I don't know what is that follower gives us. I have followers but didn't do in return. I just think they follow me because they are interested on my blog. I hope that's the real reason and nothing more.

I guess it gives us that feeling that somebody is listening us.

I'm with Tina on this one - I would like to have a lot of followers, but only for the right reasons.

If the Salvation Army declined your furniture, wouldn't you think it time for some introspection? Too few bloggers think of this when it comes to their blogs, building audiences, striving for readership.

When we all develop a "Who cares?" attitude, we'll all be better off.

hmm not sure it depends. Maybe a persons blog might not be interesting to me but I might think their views on subjects are interesting even if they are different from my own or maybe they are involved in another activity or group I might be interested in.

Follower trade? I guess I will do out of politeness, it won't do me in harm. Ultimately if I do not find that persons blog or views on any subject interesting then I won't pay attention. I don't have any expectations about followers. The internet is a big place, you can never know all the time who is a "real" follower and who isn't. So I don't worry about it. Ultimately my intuition (or gut feeling) will decide who I add...its not let me down yet.

Those are not genuine readers. I'm very happy to follow a blog I like and readers following my blog for good reasons.
I'm following quite a few blogs, I stumbled them but I never asked for anything in return.

      Precisely my point.

its one thing to read a blog, its another thing to follow it. To me following means the reader wants updates and likes your content.

Although there is always the exception to the rule.

Is it considered rude to delete the comments that say "nice blog, now visit mine"?

I hate that kind of comments..lol

it makes you wonder if they're actually reading your blog or just fishing for traffic

Do you have an interesting blog...
What is it about, whty would I want to follow your blog?
me, well I have some great photographs that span the world and lots of nature images, I have an interesting take on life sometimes, now and then I am soft and kind, sometimes I am controversial.
    I am a good friend..
I make some cool art sometimes and reckon I am pretty ok at animal art

So why would I check out your blog?
