I didn’t know that the people of the South-Asia are directly responsible for this rapid growth of food price. According to President Mr. J. W. B. - excessive eating habit of the people of this region (S. Asia) -has caused/is causing- a food crisis and thus the food price -has gone/is going- up.

South Asia means Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri-Lanka and British Indian Ocean Territory. Some also consider Afghanistan and Myanmar to be countries of S. A.

Last time I checked, the population here is 1.58 billion and over 40 percent people living in this region live below the poverty line- just managing to survive. So I was shocked hearing this statement.

wat's ur say about it?

u can read more and see a little survey here: lifeasiknowit22.blogspot.com/2008/10/i-didnt-know-that.html

Eh, Funny how that doesn't really apply to America or else our prices would be MUCH higher than they are thanks to corn being used for fuel. I mean just go to any buffet and see how we stuff our faces. Hell, We have eating contests as a sport over here.

I think that if he actually made this statement, it is very insensitive of him.

however, if i remember correctly, this is a pretty old controversy and it was clarified. the word from bush's office was that he meant that the extra demand created by the newly found wealth in s asia was causing a rise in prices, this was a factual statment made and he wasn't blaming any s asian country.

Food prices are related to over 20 to 30 % of the corn feed and soybean being converted into fuel.

Natural disasters such as flooding has caused rice, corn, and wheat to rise. Corn feed, produces milk, beef and chicken, eggs, and such foods from livestock.

The wheat cost has doubled in many places around the world.

Yes GWB is an idiot. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but it seems that since your travels (or before?), you have developed a distaste of all things American, governmental and societal. Am I right?

I'm not attacking Enlight. I have talked with him before and I like him. He has an interesting life, and I was wondering if maybe his travels have changed his way of thinking. I am only being curious.

Traveling long term outside of the United States does cause a type of eye opening truth to the deceptive practices of the West. There are other cultural ways of life I have observed to be beneficial compared to the American lifestyle.

Although, there are some positive qualities of America, such as freedom of choice, and the free economic opportunity that many other countries are not granted.

There are positives and negatives to each cultural and country, although there are many aspects to the American cultural I can live without.

The bottom line is the media that effects the American mentality.

@ irtiza104, The question from Calais50 is well intended, she is more aware of some of my comments from other posts, as I am aware of her commets. Maybe we will meet in Poland, Calais50 ?
    4. calais50
Thanks for the reply, Enlight. I'm sure if I were exposed to differing viewpoints more often, my views may change radically. As for Poland, you never know
