Fox news took part of Wright's sermon, (a quote from Ambassador Peck) and twists into anti-American quotes from Wright.

I think it's funny how Democrats are so down on Fox news, and blame them for stuff like this. The fact is, this has been on ALL of the news channels. How do I know? Because I've seen it a thousand times, and I don't even get Fox news.
It has nothing to do with right wing, or Fox news, or conservatives...it's the news media IN GENERAL...conservative, liberal, democrat, republican, CNN, FOX, MSNBC. It's ALL of them.-
Rupert Murdoch OWNS Fox.
This guy supported Pat Robertson back in "88.
He quoted..
"Regarding Pat Robertson's 1988 presidential bid, he said, "He's right on all the issues." Many Christian conservatives were dismayed when Robertson sold his television network to Murdoch. Murdoch's papers strongly supported George W. Bush in both the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch
And supported Bush in 2000 and 2004.
I guess the Dems are just paranoid.....right! -
ALL of them are "more than just a news channel."
The whole point of this thread was to show how evil FOX news is because they showed this clip, but FOX news ISN'T THE ONLY CHANNEL SHOWING THIS CLIP!!!!
I don't even get FOX news channel, and I've seen this clip about a thousand times. So to blame this on FOX alone is misleading, but this is a tactic that I see used by Democrats again and again, in an effort to suggest that it's some sort of right-wing conspiracy. Please! If there's a conspiracy, the entire news media is to blame--not just FOX.

I think they most people are aware they are all owned by some corporation or another, Murdock has publicly stated at some point in time that he certainly does slant his news to his viewpoints, the others are a little less transparent but honestly FOX, is the worse offender.
Even their pundits are getting tired of it as recently Brian Kilmeade walked off the set due to some Obama bashing and the refusal of his co-anchors to listen to him when he was trying to place certain words in context, and Chris Wallace actually made an open statement on air about the Obama bashing. It is pretty bad when your own well paid pundits do that on air.-
I couldn't find a video clip of Kilmeade walking off the set, but I did see a clip (just now) of Chris Wallace talking to the Fox & Friends team, and "taking them to task", as he said. I guess I see it very differently than you do. I definitely don't see it as a bad thing that they disagreed. I watched the whole clip, and I could see all points of view. The fact that they disagreed seems positive, in my mind, because it shows that they're not just a bunch of mindless drones showing up and "being conservative" because they're told to do so.
Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly also had some very strong words towards each other. I think that's great. I enjoy hearing the different points of view. -
Again, it's a matter of perspective. You see it as a "fundamental problem" because that's how you want to see it. You are a liberal, or a Democrat, or whatever you want to call it, so you see FOX news through those "glasses".
I see that it's a positive thing that people on FOX aren't just agreeing because of some kind of "we Republicans have to stick together" mentality. I personally would be more disappointed (and skeptical) if they all agreed on every point, because that would indicate to me that they're being told what to say, how to feel, what views to express, etc.
But instead, what it as shown me is that these are individuals who are free-thinking, and who are at liberty to challenge the thinking of others. Are their views fundamentally conservative? Of course. But why is that a bad thing? All of the other news channels are fundamentally liberal, but liberals/Democrats don't seem to have a problem with that!

What I would like to know is when did journalism become slanted liberal, conservative, whatever? When FOX came into being was the first time I remember hearing these statements about newspapers and media outlets. I guess I labored under the assumption that news was supposed to be unbiased.
Bill O'Reilly and his counterparts have certainly proven me wrong. I guess I get confused between reporters and pundits. Do we even know the difference any more?-
There are no real reporters anymore. Most of the networks just use pundits - especially the 24 hour news networks. It's pundits, soundbites, and flashy in-your-face graphics.
But c'mon - you never heard the media was slanted before Fox? Even as a child I constantly heard folks complaining about the perceived left slant of the major newspapers and news outlets. -
I definitely heard it. All throughout my childhood, I remember my father getting angry at times while watching the news, complaining about the "liberal" views, and at times even calling it "liberal propaganda."
This is certainly not something that was invented by FOX news. In fact, it seems that FOX news was more of a "response" to the other liberal news media outlets, in order to give the conservatives a similar outlet.
-
-
I have written before on journalism of the past. I remember viewing old news clips from the sixties and discussingt with my parents way back in the day. I think there was some kind of shift around the time I was born, maybe slightly before, where news all of a sudden became corporate - profit driven and started to lean toward it's current entertainment base.
-
I've heard a lot of folks say that Knight-Ridder (I think I have that spelled right - not to be confused with the cheesy tv show of similar name) publishing has some throwback journalists. Apparently they did a lof of the dot-connecting that helped expose some of the fact-twisting that got us into Iraq.
Dang...there was a great special on PBS with Moyers I think that was all about the sloppy journalism on the part of all the major media outlets that just accepted soundbites and didn't double check sources. Very eye opening stuff. Of course I was half drunk and out of town when I saw it and now I can't remember the program's name. -
Hard to see where lies are involved. I've seen the Wright pulpit tapes over and over--all networks. We've spread aids to Africa. God Damn America. Chickens coming home to roost on 9 / 11. This is some of the worst "hate" speech I've ever heard. Straight from the Pastor's lips. No doubt who said it (unless the whole thing was faked--tapes made by an actor in a studio). Fox might be accused of overdoing it as far as running time goes. But, certainly they cannot be accused of fudging the truth. It's out there, loud and clear, for all to see who will look.
-
Ok let me start by saying that Rev Wright is not someone that I would like to see lead a church, Nor is Hagge or Pat Robertson.
Listen I am American and I love my country but to think that my fellow Americans think that our sins around the globe can go with out some sort of reaction. To think that we are invisible is ridicules.
I think that he is saying that America has to answer for the atrocities that we spread around the world. We have paid both sides in wars and we are doing it again in Iraq to stem the violence.
So when does America have to answer for those sins.
-
-
there are biased folks at all the networks. if it were up to keith olbermann at msnbc, george bush would be blamed for everything wrong in the world, including the new england patriots not going 19-0. olbermann doesn't even try to act middle of the road when doing his little leftist act five nights a week. while i'm a republican, i don't always agree with o'reilly at fox, but i think he calls it down the middle. i think sean hannity at fox goes too far to the right many times, and again, i'm a republican. i watch cnn for the news and i watch fox for the news discussions - so i get the best of both worlds. at the end of the day, no reporter, host, etc. will swing how i vote. as for pastor wright...there are white racists, asian racists, black racists, etc. wright is a racist, plain and simple.
-
i'm no fan of the clinton duo...but his comments towards the former president were uncalled for as were his comments about hillary. and his suggestions that we were somehow to blame for 9/11 are not only dangerous, but plain stupid. does he have a right to say those things? absolutely. of course, he wouldn't be saying those or any things for that matter if we were living under the terrorists who killed 3,000 of our people back on sept. 11. he is a member of the 'blame america crowd' and apparently proud of it.
-
So does that make him a racist. As fair as the blame America crowd, can we hold our country in contempt for any of our actions. His words are over the top, but UMMMMMMM when does America have to take responsibility for her actions.
We live in a great country, but we have to be realistic.
No we are not to blame for 9/11 and it was uncalled for.
-
-
i think his comments towards bill clinton were uncalled for and i'm farrrrr from a clinton supporter. i imagine if a white pastor had made such remarks towards say MLK, the black population would be in an uproar and rightfully so. it is much like the recent murders of the two white females at auburn and unc. where was jessie? where was al sharpton? where were other black leaders in coming out and crying out against this violence and slaughter of two innocent white women? there is a lot of white trash in the world, but there is a big gang problem with black youth and yet jessie, al, etc. were nowhere to be found following these murders. they were big news items, so i'm sure they heard of them. my feeling is that people like pastor wright, etc. can't have their cake and eat it too. he should be trying to bring the races together, not divide them further. as for blaming america, this country has done many things wrong and should be taken to task when having done so. there is no credible evidence, however, that 9/11 was some bush led conspiracy or that we had this coming to us because of our actions overseas. we've been at war with terrorists dating back to the overthrow of the shah of iran in '79. for him to suggest that we somehow bear responsibility for the twin towers, pentagon and shanksville is an outrage to the 3,000 people who lost their lives as we both agree.
-
You did not answer the question and that is ok........ But America is not invincible.
As far as Rev Jackson or Rev Al, well as a black man they don't speak for me or most black people. The media tends to PROP them up when they need someone of color to speak for black people. They no more speak for me as O'riely, Hannity, Bush, Pat Robinson or any other white person speaks for white people.
I feel that Black Americans are always forced to defend what other blacks in America do. I never approach a white person and ask well why did Jeffery Damer eat those people. But white people always (well not always but to many times) have asked me about Rev Wright, or Jesse Jackson, or Al Sharpton.
I am sorry, but I live in "white" America. The reason why people are calling Rev Wright a racist is because when he says America, "white" America feels he is talking to them. If I remember Collin Powell is not white so I guess he is talking to him also.
Gang problem..... well yeah there is one, there is also a wellfair issue in America, guess what white people are at the top of the list for using the system. Where is someone white talking about that?
Please don't ask black people to stand up for all the ills in our closets, cause I will tell you white people don't normally stand up for the dirt in their closet. It is blamed on music, tv, movies, but never the broken home.
As far as the gang issue is concerned are you saying that white kids are not in gangs? Are you saying this is only a black issue.........?
I think that is what Obama was saying...... all these issues that we have cross all lines.

White people talk about white people on welfare all the time. I don't care what color your skin is, if you're a freeloader then you're a freeloader. Weak argument.
Some people on welfare need it and I am happy and PROUD that our country provides it, especially when I read about numbnuts trashing our country and saying how bad we are.
I wouldn't want an extremist, white OR black to lead anything. You are doing the EXACT same thing you are so in a dander about, and that is making broad generalizations and stereotyping.
It's hypocritical, which is normal for most people, at least in my experience.
You will point fingers at others and castigate them for their sins, but then you'll do the exact same thing.
It destroys your credibility to someone like me. -
Another hypocrite checking in....if anyone actually thinks Wright ISN'T speaking to White America then they are not only a hypocrite but they are borderline insanely delusional.
-
Just like the ol folks at home said" If the shoe fits then you got to wear it.And it's fitting so tight some people are uncomfortable the he's telling it like it TIS. Where are the critics that can prove that what Wright is saying is a lie. There are none. So what they are saying instead is that he should not be allowed to tell the truth. That ain't Wright!
-
He says America and he means White America. If you don't see that then there isn't any point to this discussion.
I don't think that if a black man says America he means white America. I do think that when Wright says America framed in the context of his language, he is very, very clearly talking about white America.
Racism and hatred isn't a one way street despite what you would want us to believe. -
no one is saying that is a one way street. It is funny to me that you are so sure he is talking about Whites in America.
He is saying America.......... I think that where the issue lies is that White America feels that this is their country, thus when someone says America, White people in America feel as if someone is talking to them. When someone says America it is my country. I am black, with a splash of American Indian and White...... this is my country.
Wright in alot of ways is WRONG, but at the end of the day he brings up a great point.... AMERICA my county and your country must answer for its sins...... at some point. -
Any fool can see he is talking about White America. You can hear the poison in his voice and you can read it in his words.
When I hear the term America, I don't picture any color, I don't think of race, I don't picture black or white.
People like you make this crap up to justify the hate that is coming from a guy like Wright. You will twist and dodge and duck the issue and that is that he is a full fledged whitey hater.
Period.
Being white I will be the first one to tell you that I wouldn't defend dummies like Robertson. Extremists of either party or any race are dangerous to us all and do not do any good.
I know you know it too, you simply won't admit it. It's ok...most people are hypocrites.-
I feel a lot of anger in your post on the discussions..... I have said that Wright is Wrong.... I will say it and I mean it. But because of sounds clips and slanted news we think that Wright hates White America or he hates America. I have been raised not to see skin color but I do. I am guilty of being a part of the ignorance of racism from time to time.
But when I here America in a heated sermon I know that I am part of the problem. Maybe if I would have stood up and spoke my mind more. Maybe if I participated in the process more then things might be different.
I am American, I am part of America and when Rev Wright speaks about the ills of this country I listen and I take head...... He is wrong about Aids, but guess what America was not brought to our knees on 9/11 because we are a perfect country that has not done anything wrong around the world. America sins...........am I right or wrong. -
G I have no anger, I do have little tolerance for holier than thou hypocrites. You say out one side of your mouth that you think Wright is wrong but then you defend what he says by trying to blame White America for misinterpreting it as racist.
If you don't think what he said was racist or hateful then why do you think he is wrong?
As far as America "sinning" I am sure we do our part but for every sin we might perform I think we do commit 3 times as many good deeds. -
ok do me a favor.... watch this clip www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ it will onnly take 10 min
then after you watch that tell me what you think about Wright.......
-
-
I think the difference is one of you is using the standard definition and one of you is using the term interchangeably with Systemic or Institutionalized racism.
If one does not understand institutionalized racism and the cumulative sociological effect of it , an effect which has devastated the African American community. and for which they are constantly being told they shouldn't be angry it's all good now, than really there is no reason to bother having discussions because it's all about one person constantly trying to threaten others with statement like "your candidate is gonna lose because of it blah blah blah.
Why can't you just let someone have their say for god sake. -
Possibly you should pay for your own private thread so you don't feel so stalked.
There are tons of people in this thread and you for some reason think you are being stalked because I commented?
That explains everything. -
-
-
My question was in response to their discussion regarding whether Wright's comments were in regard to white America, or America as a whole. BlogEntrepreneur believes it was in reference to white America, while gmoney believes it was to America as a whole. Since gmoney used that clip as part of that discussion, I thought it was somehow supposed to show that Wright's anger was towards America as a whole, and not just towards white America.
Now please answer my question above. -
If you listen to the clip, Rev Wright states "WE" when talking about America, NOT, they, the man, them, those people or better yet WHITE PEOPLE.
I listen to what people SAY, I don't live my life by sounds bites. I am sorry, but FOX, CNN, MSNBC and other stations have done a disservice to America by simply playing inflammatory sound bites. If you think that type of news serves anyone in America am I am sorry you feel that way. -
Well, as I've stated in other threads, I don't really care so much what people say. I care what they do. Actions speak louder than words.
And one thing I know for sure that Rev. Wright DID is honor and give an award to Louis Farrakhan--one of the most vocally racist people in America. In fact, Wright was quoted as saying "[Farrakhan's] depth on analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye opening. He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest."
Louis Farrakhan is a hate-filled racist, and nobody can deny that. He has said that "white people are unevolved". He called Judaism a "gutter religion". He said that he was proud to be compared to Hitler because "Hitler was a good person."
I have brought this point up several times, and still I have not heard anyone explain why it's okay that Wright honored Farrakhan in this way. In fact, if I remember correctly, the only person who even addressed it at all was Stoneman, and his only remark was "It's not an issue..." Well, it's an issue to me. It's a HUGE issue to me. And you can damn well be certain that it's an issue to many people. -
Farrahkan is a divisive figure in America. But let me ask you, what do you really know about Farrahkan? Or is it just what you have heard about him on Fox news. Sean Hannity for the past week makes sure he states Farrahkan, Wright and Obama in the same sentence. As to make us think it is guilt by association. A few days ago I asked you how you felt about Reagan and Bush speaking or defending a white school that forbids interracial dating and marriage. Fox news did not jump on that story.
I personally have seen Farrahkan speak when I was about 8 years old. He had a good plan for Black America to help itself.... that is what I remember. I am not a fan for farrahkan because I believe in unity, but again what do you really know about the man. -
Well, I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I DON'T GET FOX NEWS. Don't get me wrong...I WISH I got Fox News, as it's my favorite news channel. But no, I didn't get any information regarding Farrakhan from Fox News. I don't rely on anyone (or any news station) to spoon feed me information.
I remember Farrakhan from the Million Man March. It was very well televised, and I remember hearing large parts of his speeches he gave during that time. It was NOT unifying, but was very divisive.
I had forgotten about Farrakhan through the years, as he has somewhat fallen into the shadows. But when all of this started being covered on the news, and Obama was linked to Wright, who was linked to Farrakhan, it piqued my curiousity, and I began to do research on the man again.
Regarding the school, I looked extensively at their website, and found no evidence that they forbid interracial dating/marriage. I have not done any research outside of looking at their website, as I have not had the time. And until I find documented evidence regarding your statements, I'm not simply going to take your word for it. I'm sure you understand that. After all, you ridicule people for taking the word of Fox News, so I'm sure you'll understand my not simply taking the word of a person I've never even met or seen.

kristilinauer....
My quote.."It must be the mentality of the listener." means the racist mentality of people that believe Fox News spins. -
I happen to be white and agree with Rev. Wright's comments in the video. Does that make me anti-White?
-
kristilinauer...
No...that info couldn't be supported without a survey or poll.
But to thoroughly believe Fox News is foolish.-
I don't even think it's possible to "thoroughly believe Fox News", as there are people within the Fox News company that disagree with one another. Might I remind you that Hannity and Colmes is a Fox News show. For someone to believe them thoroughly would make one a sufferer of dissociative disorder or schizophrenia. Along those same lines, Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly also have very different views on key issues. I could go on, but I think you see my point.
-
You know...we could go back and forth regarding Fox News, but every time it's been brought up (both here and on other threads), I get the feeling that the liberals/Democrats have this attitude that people who watch Fox News are just complete idiots--backwoods hillbillies who don't have the mental capacity to think for themselves and draw their own conclusions, and therefore must be spoon-fed information in small doses so that maybe their tiny little brains can hold some of that information.
-
back woods hillbillies NO, but not as open minded as most yes. I find that people that get their news primarily from fox news tend to believe all that they see. They speak in sound bites and generalities.
I watch news and read as much as possible to get the real story. I feel that no matter what your political affiliation you should look at all aspects of a story a person and get as much INFO as possible. On several occasions in this form I have heard direct quotes or sound bites in posts that are directly from FOX NEWS.
In this day and age we have entirely to much information at our finger tips to rely on what one news organization says. I feel that you have to have all the information.
Let me be honest when I heard the stuff that Rev Wright said I was pissed, but it did not change my opinion of Obama. Then I did what I was suppose to do which is research the facts and I found the quotes and the stuff that he said is not even close to as bad as the media is making it out to be!

let me put it all on the table. I am a mixed Black man that is forced to live with stereotypes of a race because of the color of my skin.
I am a moderate to liberal American because of a choice. I love my country, but I hate the way that we tend to treat and label people. From the term illegal that points at Mexican Americans, to when you here the word ghetto or thug and you think Black......
Fox news in my opinion does not to unify our country. They spend more time on sound bites and video clips to really distort the facts. When I listened to the FULL clip of Rev Wright I was taken back. His words were true and Christian..... But if you listen to fox news you would think that all he preached was hate.-
And again, it's NOT JUST FOX NEWS.
You want to put the blame on Fox simply because you're liberal, and you can't stand that Fox News has a conservative viewpoint. Therefore, you, and every other liberal I've ever spoken with, say everything you can in order to discredit Fox.
I have seen that video clip MANY, MANY TIMES over the last two weeks, and I DON'T GET FOX NEWS. So you're attempt to make this an issue with Fox is ridiculous. -
We HAVE committed atrocities against other nations, time and time again. Like the Rev. Wright said, "without batting an eye".
He said what America didn't want to hear...the truth.
Malcolm X made some honest comments. Louis Farrakhan made some honest comments. MLK made some honest comments . JFK and RFK made some honest comments...and all these guys were either assassinated or an attempt was made to do so.
It seems to me that racism is alive and well in many of the hearts of the media spin doctors also. -
As far as me being a liberal, I would have to say that I am more liberal than conservative. My information that I get is based on facts and whole truths. As you can tell I watch Fox news more than most. If I heard Hannity or Oriely talking about real issues then I would respect them more.
Do you know that Oriely tracked down Huffington from the Huffington post to dog her about slanderous comments that were on her website. But guess what, there are racial and slanderous comments to posts on the FOX news website...... I am not trying to point fingers but speak the truth. Don't try to take the high moral ground when FOX does the same thing. Also O'riely always tries to be so ethical and moral, yet he had a sexual harassment case that he settled out of court.
-
-
kristilinauer...
You're generalizing liberals/democrats. Did someone here mention Repubs/conservatives in a negative way???-
Yes, I am generalizing. I realize that when one generalizes about something, there are always exceptions.
No, there have been no comments made expressly, although I feel that it is often implied, both here on BC and with liberals in general (those on television, those I have met in person, and those whose comments I read online and in newspapers.)
I do get the feeling that liberals in general have this attitude that Republicans/conservatives are closed-minded, have a narrow view of the world, are very ignorant in general, and have not been "enlightened". And yes, this is an attitude that I feel is expressed very openly on BC as well.
//Edit// I will say, Mark, that I took your comment at the top, regarding the "mentality" of those who watch Fox News, to be a direct dig at conservatives/Republicans. I didn't say anything immediately, but I was certainly ready to take you to task on that comment today. However, it would seem that I misread/misunderstood your meaning initially, as I thought that you were, indeed, trying to express the thoughts that I mentioned above.

During an interview at a Philadelphia radio station, Barack Obama said “But she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know. . .there’s a reaction in her that doesn’t go away and it comes out in the wrong way.”
quote from obama
What's a typical white person? A White supremacist, Black killer?
Obama is a FRAUD
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWvrBveIz-s -
- Claims he never attended a Muslim school, three of his ex teachers said he did.
- Denied any knowledge of Rev Wright offensive anti-White sermons, but he himself makes offensive, public anti-White statements.
OBAMA IS A LIAR. -
-
You mean he claims he never attended a madrassas, it was told quite some time ago that he did attend a Muslim school from age 6 to 8, then Catholic school - it was in his book, it was pronounced on FOX news that he attended a madrassas after a story by "Insight", they corrected when found to be untrue, he attended a public Muslim school in Indonesia where Muslin classes were offered to Muslim students. Common knowledge.
“She is extremely proud, and the point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person who, you know, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there is a reaction that has been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and sometimes come out in the wrong way…
“That’s the nature of race in our society,’’
Quite true actually, that is the nature of race in our society. -
I've learned something here.
There are a lot of folks that actually are scared or fear having a black president.
They use fear mongering tactics and lies to induce or revive racial tensions.
We should be ashamed.-
Mark I think you are doing the same thing. YOu are twisting something into something it isn't.
Every presidential election is filled with these kinds of tactics no matter the race of the candidates. It isn't that Obama is black, it's that he is the OTHER parties potential candidate.
Kerry enjoyed the same thing in the election and so did McCain, they both were hammered by the opposition on anything that presented itself.
-
-
BlogEntrepreneur,
I wish you were right, but no one has mentioned the POLITICAL stances of Obama.
Only Muslim or racial implications were made, which support my claim of "racial fear".-
I don't see it the same way you do obviously. With McCain it's his age, with Hilary it's cause she cries, with Obama you say it's his race. I don't think it would be his race if he weren't tied to that whacko.
It hasn't been about his race until Wright surfaced. It was his experience if anything, in fact he had led a pretty charmed life until now. The media was gaga over him and definitely didn't treat him the same as the other candidates.
I think people like you make a claim of "racial fear" because it's a sound bite. It gets everybody riled up.
Apparently you are the Fox News of Blogcatalog.
:-)

"The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity," he said. "But she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know. . .there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way."
comments he made about his white grandmother and her racial phobias.

Barack Obama Pastor Wright & Chums Dirty Little Secrets
cool video!:)

At one point I thought this discussion was good, but now it is going downhill.
I am sure that republicans over the years only have friends and confidants that have only supported unity and the coming together of the races. We all know that is not the truth.
At least Barack has stood up and said the tough things about race in America.
He has tried to make not about being black.... trust me, he does not want this to be about him being black.
