POINTSHAVERS.COM 09/02/08 - The Nationals have been winning meaningless games at the expense of major league baseball contenders such as the LA Dodgers. And just yesterday the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies became their latest victim.

In that Phililes game last night, idiot pitcher Kyle Kendrick (no relation to the idiot kicker Mike Vanderjagt) was pulled in the fifth inning after he gave up six earned runs to the Nationals -- the worst hitting team in baseaball. The funny thing is that Kendrick's last bad start was against the San Diego Padres -- the second worst hitting team in baseball. Kendrick is known for losing concentration in critical spots and giving up singles and doubles to National league pitchers.

What a joke this guy is.

Unfortunately today, the Nationals may come crashing back to earth as Phillies LHP Cole Hammels looks to put the Nationals back in their place as NL East cellar dwellars. The Phillies need this win to keep up with the surging Mets who won yesterday (4-2) over the Milwaukee Brewers. And I would be surprised to see the Phillies struggle against Nationals LHP John Lannan who routinely "gives it up" to the Philadelphia Phillies powererful batting order.

Then again, I woke up this morning to see that UCLA came back to beat Tennessee. I'm sorry for all of you who had money on either the UNDER or VOLS. College Football is crazy huh?

Take Philadelphia Phillies (-210) vs Washington Nationals

That UCLA/TEN game epitomizes why I don't bet on such sports. I can't stand having to cover "spreads". That being said, I bet on the ponies nearly every day.

So let's make some bold predictions, shall we? Let's expand this topic to a bit more than Cole Hammels vs the Nationals (by the way, Hammels should win - but the Phillies are so anemic on offense, despite having Rollins, Utley, and Howard, that you'd be foolhardy to ever wager money on them).

Let's make some NFL week 1 predictions. Straight up - no spread.

-Washington at NY Giants (Thursday Night): NY Giants
-Detroit at Atlanta: Detroit (hate taking the Lions on the road, but this is the Falcons we're talking 'bout)
-Cincinatti at Baltimore: Cincinatti (close one though - that Cincy team is in shambles)
-Seattle at Buffalo: Buffalo ("Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills!")
-NY Jests at Miami: J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets
-Kansas City at New England: New England (yawn)
-Tampa Bay at New Orleans: New Orleans in a tight one
-St. Louis at Philadelphia: Philly (Rams are my team, but they are as bad a team as I've ever seen)
    -Houston vs Pitt: Pittsburgh Steelers
-Jacksonville vs Tenn: Jacksonville in another close one
-Dallas vs Clevelan: Dallas - but don't be surprised if the Browns get 'em
-Carolina vs San Diego: San Diego Super Chargers
-Arizona vs San Fran: Arizona - love that team with Warner at the helm
    -Chicago vs Indy: Indianapolis
-Minnesota vs Green Bay: I'll take the Vikings, on the road and all
-Denver vs Oakland: Gotta go with Orange and Blue

Hey, do you know anything about baseball cards?

Plenty - any card in particular you are wondering about? My collection really ranges from '79 - '91, but I started collecting for my son again the year he was born ('04).

I have the same credentials as kdawg68...I also used to be a vendor, and worked a table at local card shows along with a buddy that owns a card shop in St. Louis.

...and yes, I have held a '52 Mickey Mantle...better than any Playboy magazine you could hold.
