Many Scientists and Doctors caution that exorbitant cell-phone use can cause brain cancer...

I know many people who seem to have a cell-phone glued to their ear almost all of the time except perhaps when they are sleeping...

Does anybody have an opinion on this ?

I will survive!-- (No cell phone.)

Yes, I am totally lame now, ah, but later when I'm one of the few left... !

(And no, I don't not have a cell phone because I'm afraid of brain cancer.)

I'm with you; cell-less but not for cancer reasons.

i have a cellphone but it's almost never charged (98% of calls go to VM) so i am 98% safe. we can have a slumber party when the addicts are gone.

There's no hard data proving cell phones cause brain cancer! I heard it on NPR so it must be so, I mean about no data. Not long ago the media pundits said cell phone towers caused brain cancer. It's idiotic. People who are addicted to cell phones will get winnowed out in a natural, Darwinian way - hit by cars, falling down elevator shafts, etc. - the way nature intended mutants to go.

      LOL! That's good!

I'm affraid do there is hard data, but I can't remember where I've seen it and don't have the time to search for it now. I use my cell mainly to SMS, but when I have to call I use a hands free just in case (not getting paranoid about that though).

I don't have one, never would.

Uh, oh - I currently don't have a land line and love to talk on the phone so if these scientists are right, I will be one of the first to go.

    I'm done...

(when will we start seeing the epidemic?)

The director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, Dr. Herberman, just warned hospital employees not to take a chance. He basically says, why wait until the studies are proven? You can read more here:

Interesting also - a study showing that there are a lot of incidental tumors and other brain abnormalities lurking in the brains of the general population.

Thank-you kab625 for providing that important information...

My doctor friend told me it was unlikely there would be any conclusive data on how harmful electromagnetic radiation is to the human body for quite some time...

My Doctor friend recommended using land lines for long conversations, and using cell phones only when necessary...He was very concerned about children and their overusage of cell phones...

I find this excerpt from the above link to be an important health concern...

"Moreover, a study appeared at the end of March this year by one of the world’s top neurosurgeons, Vini Khurana , concluded that using mobile phones for 10 years could double the risk of brain cancer. He went even further and said the danger coming from using mobile phones “has broader public-health ramifications than asbestos and smoking,” he said at the time.

However, Dr. Khurana’s study ended, like many other studies on cell phone use as well, by being contested by cell phone makers for fear sales would have to suffer from his conclusions, which, by the way, were considered by the Mobile Operators Association just “a selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual.”

I use the speaker phone feature or a wired ear piece. The wireless ear piece microwaves your head too.
    1. gerryPlanetEarth
Many people in the transportation industry use these wireless ear pieces 8 to 12 hours a day...

I know, I tried one thinking it would be sooo easy to use, and my ear was hot in less than a minute. I can not imagine wearing one for any amount of time.

Hmmm. Brain cancer kills 13,000 people a year in the US. Even doubled that is only 26,000 or .0087% of the population. Septicemia kills as many people but nobody talks about blood poisoning. But I'm sure there is no money to be made by hyping that one.

You mean there is money to be made from this one?

In university, I had a professor who was studying the effects of electromagnetic fields on human tissue and based on her findings, generally there was little to be concerned about. However, on this topic some studies find effects. Others do not. I am not sure whether the science is finding little evidence or the makers of cell phones are watering down the message with strong lobbying clout.

When you consider that the science around driving while using a cell phone says it is dangerous and most places still allow it, you know that some lobbying is taking place.

Personally, I had told several of my clients about 9 years ago that this is a growing issue and will continue to be a large problem in the future. In just that one year I knew three people who were under age 50 that got a brain tumor. Two died. Strangely on the side of the head where most often the cell phone was used. I think some people will naturally be more resistant. Others not so lucky.

People had cell phones since the mid 1990s. I think if they caused cancer, then almost everyone in the country would have it by now. It probably makes up less than 1% of the cancers.
