If you're gay, don't tell Microsoft. Evidently there's a "don't ask, don't tell" policy hidden in their end user license agreement.
A gamer was booted for stating in her profile that she's a lesbian. Read it via: www.gamecherry.com/2009/02/if-youre-gay-dont-tell-microsoft.html and give your opinion.
My opinion is this sucks,..but not in a gay way.

the linked to piece would have been Much stronger if a link had been provided to the supposed story at The Consumerist. with no way to read the other sources, it's hard to put the complaint in context.

I agree. Always provide a link to the article!
Here they are:
www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/consumerist-self-identified-lesbian-banned-from-...
and
consumerist.com/5161145/microsofts-policy-regarding-identifying-sexual-orie... -
there is a link to the original story.
"A user was banned suspended from the service for stating in her profile that she was lesbian. Going by the name "Theresa", she had this to say about the matter (taken from consumerist.com)"
In the article, 'consumerist.com' links to the original story.
I always link back, it's only fair.

My, oh my. Who knew they were part of the bunch that tries to keep its users/customers from catching gay?
Would they have done the same if a user described [him/her]self as "straight" in their profile? I think not. And, if anyone should've been banned, it's the people who harassed her. -
There's almost no concrete information here; it's lousy reporting. The only "evidence" Consumerist has managed to dig up is a woman named Theresa who says this is what happened. I'm not inclined to be all ZOMGMICROSOFTHATESGAYS until I know the whole story.
