Trains are great. I spent three weeks in Tokyo a few years ago and it was great. Their train system is awesome.

The price is not high enough. Ramp it up. Delusional, fairy tale thinking that claims it is unjust, unfair, must be stopped, we can bring down prices by protesting etc.

I agree with you 100 per cent...We have truly painted ourselves into a corner in terms of automobile dependency...

We must quickly develop new transportation methods and vehicles that are environmentally sustainable and if we are somehow successfull at that the factories that produce these vehicles must also be environmentally sustainable...

I think the answers to these problems will be market driven rather than government driven...

I also think the answers will be found somewhere in the renewable resources of Planet Earth that mankind continues to destroy...

My commute consists of walking (just a moment please while I step it off) 12 steps from my comfy, cushy bed. I work from home. My office is in our master bedroom. :) I save a ton of money not having to drive to work and I'm so, so, so pleased about it. Just doing my part to conserve!

Yet, auto manufacturers are still coming out with more models that have low fuel efficiency. Gas is a CRAZY inelastic product in terms of price. Maybe the manufacturers are taking advantage of this as much as they can.

Gas prices are indeed too high to my standards. I don't pay for my gasoline, it is a benefit I have with the company I work for, but I could see how it is affecting a lot of people. The bicycle is a good idea, I ride my bike to work sometimes it energizes me at the start of the day.

It's a nice premise - and yeah we can all lower our gas consumption at least a little (or a lot, depending on how much you use vs how much you waste).

But it's still a hot commodity, the demand will never go down.
