Hi everyone,
I'm a new music blogger due to the fact that I got sick of Gen Y'ers thinking of Rihanna who gets ready-made songs as someone comparable to Nina Simone or Jill Scott who write their own music. That's like going to a pizza place and seeing them take a frozen pizza out and saying it's just as good as pizza from scratch. Not to say that frozen pizza isn't good, but it's not the same.
The same goes for saying Miley Cyrus is better than Imogen Heap who writes, records and produces her music herself or Bjork who goes around recording different noises and compiles them to try making something new, interesting and heart-felt. Jonas Brothers to Radiohead. Lil' Wayne or Soulja Boy to Tupac.
That grinds my gear. But I do like Gen Y'ers who make fun, interesting music. I'm trying to mainstream the fringe and get those songs about Guicci bandanas off the TV and back in the shower where they belong. I can't do it alone, but thank god for bloggers.

That was an excellent self-introduction. I hope you don't get dinged for dropping a link at the end because you've surely provided some discussion fodder - like, "What's the difference between covering standards and singing other people's music?" For now, all I have to say is that I agree with your statements and I'll be dropping by your blog.

I happen to agree with you - but art in every form is a fickle thing

Just think, Andy Warhol and Duchamp are household names revered as art gods.

ALl they did was put commonplace item in a gallery space or on a canvas, called it art, and there it was kinda like "canned music"

I dunno what it is. I remember Craig Ferguson's monologue the other day and it made SO MUCH sense. There's a celebration of youth that's become universal and it's transformed into a celebration of imbecility, non-committal communication and inexperience. There's no reverence for process, for dedication to work, there's always the celebration of those people who gain -- ever short-lived but --instant fame. Then we tear them down for the exact same things that we allowed them to gain fame for. It's just cannibalistic and a dumb waste of this one existence we have to celebrate life and each other.

I don't listen to the radio anymore. It's all manufactured crap, especially on so called rock stations. Although, one song I do like playing on the radio is "Wetter" by Twista (Rap). Besides that, everything else sucks on the radio!
