Topics: butterflies before singing, not that kind of performance jitters guys, nuggets of wisdom, performance jitters
A few of you know that I'm in a band. A Garage band mind you...
Not like a famous band or anything.
Anyhow - there is a music festival and we're the second band playing for a 45 minute Gig set.
We've bounced down our originals and have them nailed pretty tight.
But it's been awhile since we've performed - and well - to be perfectly honest, I've got the butterflies going on.
I know we'll do ok.
I'm just worried I'm going to look and sound like a drowned whale up on the stage...
It's a scary thought...
And well - sigh... LOL
I was just wondering if any of you have any words of wisdom that you tell yourself or have told others right before they perform?
I mean - I'm not yarking or anything - just a little excited and worried that we won't do good - or that we'll mess up... or something... Yanno?
Anyhow - gimme some words of wisdom.
(and lots of good luck wishes)

Take a shot of vodka about 10 minutes before you go, just a shot, and you'll be fine.
Oh, and don't think, just perform. You are a showman, it's your stage, take control of it, and then after you are off stage, puke your guts out. I tend to do that for some reason, the puking part. It's like you push your consciousness aside and let something else take over, some other person or thing, and you are just watching, until it's all over and your consciousness comes rushing back, and your stomach churns and you puke for 10 minutes straight. -
A great performance is all about confidence...so quit thinking about what may go wrong, cause you'll drive yourself insane. Focus on your music, clearly its what you love to do!!
Best of luck to u and you're band -
they say chew gum to help nerves.. i did it when i went on stage to sing,
and when i was singing it kept popping out of my mouth, and then afterward, i got so nervous i swallowed it..
so if your a nervous person, i wouldn't recommend it
i know this has nothing to do with preforming, but I'm also going to a gig tomorrow,
Metallica! woo! -
- Words of wisdom ... Hmmm ... that's a challenge. Dont' skip eating and be sure eat all the right things - no junk - you know what real food is so eat it. Get the sleep you need. Go inside yourself and tell yourself you are going to be great. Visualize delivering a perfect set. Then no matter what happens, tell yourself the truth. You are going to give the gig your very best and let go of the results. Whatever happens on that stage is meant to happen and you can cope with it and go with the flow. Then, get out there and ROCK!

- Forget the ex. You aren't singing to him. Select some faces of unknown people in different places in the audience and sing to them. Remember that you are singing to all those folks in the very back row. Above all else like rainhat says - don't be afraid to have fun and to improvise if you go off track.
-
Have fun! I think that's the best thing you can do on stage. If you are having fun, the audience will pick up on it and have fun too. And don't hold back. If you mess something up, it's better to mess it up with a passion than make the show flawless but lacking energy. So go at it full speed and the audience will love you whatever happens.
Good luck, and have fun!

We've been working on the mess up - but keep going thing.
I've been very proud of us lately. We've worked really hard on it - and it seems to be working.
I mean, before - we would stop - and start all over if we messed up.
Now - we just keep going - and make it through to the end.
Another practice tonight - then another tomorrow at set up around 2 - and then our set is at 6:30.
Aggggggggggggg.
LOL!

WW! I didn't know you were a fellow musician! How wonderful! I'd love to hear your band. Where do you live?
Best of luck, though, seriously! I hope it goes great and as my wonderful friend, Kent, used to stay (R.I.P, dear) to me every time before I stepped out on stage: "Knock em dead, babe--remember, they WANT to love you!"-
OOOh - I like that - They Wanna Love you...
Me - I've always imagined stepping out there - TOMATOES and Cabbages... being thrown.. LOL!
Epi has some blacklist shortcuts (unedited first takes when creating our songs) - She's still alive - so she must have an iron eardrum or something.
Or likes self torture. LOL!

Focus on your passion, not your insecurities. Think instead not about how the performance could go wrong, but about how awesome it will be when it goes right.

if you get nervous just imagine Rory in the audience with the fancy feather boa you bestowed on him.

Me? I am LOADED with good advice for just this occasion!--
If you have anything shaped like the Stonehenge monuments being crafted, in order to be lowered dramatically down on stage, check the size of them prior to the performance...
Stay away from anything that looks like a translucent pod, from which you are supposed to emerge... If you must, check and oil the hinges first.
Set your amps up to 11.
And have fun. -

I know you have been precticing luike crazy
if you make mistake on stage just pretend it's perfect...
the fun thing about open chords is that you can put anything on them
you look gorgeous so no need to worry about that.
post some pics soon.-
Yeah, what he said. If you make a mistake, just move on. The key is to keep playing no matter what, even if a string on your instrument breaks, or a drum head or stick busts, the show must go on. Being in a rock band is cool because if something goes wrong you can just go wild and feed your energy to the crowd, jazz bands, and blues bands, I don't know if they can do the same, but maybe.

@trailofpen
And if everything else fails you can tell your BC friends about it and we will have a good laugh over drinks

It's okay. Try not to think about THE AUDIENCE STARING AT YOU ... or anything like that. You'll do great!
-
Just resign yourself to the fact that you're going to screw everything up and that it doesn't matter and you'll be fine.

@ww quote:Not glamorous - just garage bandish...
mwahahaha for some reason I have Bette Davis when I think of you up there. But yeah probably seing you in your natural form would have me seing Melissa Auf Der Maur
-
Good luck. I've only ever played 4 gigs, on guitar for a friend's band. My brother is going to be filling in guitar at a few shows for Staten Island band The Blame, actually.
