Those lists of best baby girl names rarely have anything interesting to offer. The same names are always listed as the "Top 100".

List your favorite names for baby girls.

Very interesting list combining some rather unique names with a few traditional ones.

    Genevieve
    Isabella

    Naomi
    Tia
    Chantelle

    Chelsea
    Victoria

(these are my three girls first and middle names)
  3. msbaby
I love girls names with three syllables. They are so romantic. Do your girls go by their first or their middle names? Any nicknames?

For instance do you call Genevieve Jenny?
  4. CrystalRaven
Geneveive is Vivi (I hate Jenny if I wanted her to be a Jenny I'd named her
    Jennifer lol)

Naomi is Nami (like it wasn't short enough already lol, it was only after American Pie(?) we realized the whole - backwards - I Moan thing )

    and Chelsea is Chels

for the record, my fav boy names are those of my sons:

    Matthew
    Thomas
(Matt, again later we realized his initials were MT *last name here* (sounds like EMPTY)

    Jason
    David
    (we call him J.D.)
    1. msbaby
You are so right! Vivi is MUCH better than Jenny and so sophisticated.
  5. SnackosaurusRex
    arianna
    garnet
    hayden
    1. msbaby
I love Arianna, but Garnet sounds so rich and well, jewellike.
  6. Rozie818
    Nerine (name of a lily)
    1. msbaby
One of my essential oils is neroli which this name brought to mind, but Nerine is too similar to the name Irene.
  7. cooper
    Olivia is a lovely name.
  8. faithsju243
    Harlow
    Isabella
    Londyn
    Mackenzie
    Madison
    Morgan
    Sage
    1. msbaby
      Harlow! That's a nice one.
  9. Hangingonahyphen
I personally like the name Jayell, I don't know how the parents of the kid thought of it but there was this little girl about five which smiled at me at the fastfood while I was at the queue and I asked her name. That's it. Anyway, I wouldn't know if it was the girl's cuteness or the name that got me hooked. She's just adorable.
    1. msbaby
I think that mental associations with many baby girl names are what have me so conflicted. For instance, I like the name Olivia but every time I hear it Olivia Newton John flashes through my mind. I'm having a difficult time finding pretty names that bring no unwanted word associations.

  13. jackpayne
    Wanda, Sophie, Agnes.
    1. msbaby
Agnes might be ok if nobody would call her "Aggie". I would have a problem with that.
    2. MidwestMom
Jack, my grandmother's name was Agnes Placidus... it means peaceful lamb, I think. So, your mention of it make me chuckle.

There are some names from that generation, though, that are darling. My husband's grandmother was named Millie (Mildred) and my "adopted grandma" was named Winnie (Winifred). I like both of those.

My paternal grandmother is Pasqualina. I have always thought Pascal or Pasqualina are beautiful names.
  14. armywife65
    I named my daughter Michele
My grand daughter's name is: Ambrielle (have only heard this name once before)
    McKinzie
    Seeley
    Brianna
But, they will to be dog names for me, cuz I'm done in the baby dept, oh yeah! done as done will ever be
  15. girlzstylin
I am partial to Olivia (although already stated above)
but I am stuck on Hillary lately
Emma is quite cute and seems to be a good name that survives all the stages of life.
I also like Vivian, Azalea, Cynthia
  16. kat822
    Lillybeth
  17. fczamora
i got cooky, maico and kayra but these are just n-names apart from their real 3-in-1 names sophia ingrid colleen, alexandria monica corinna and ziarra mae treena respectively.. LOL
  18. Sebastyne
At all cost, avoid clichés and fashionable names. There's nothing as ridiculous than 5 Jasmins on the same class. (I don't know what the fashion names around the world are, but in Finland every girl under 10 years old is either Jasmin, Janica, Janina, Jessika, Veronika or some silly version of those.)

Norah has been one of my favourite names for a long time, and one that doesn't come up too often. Laura, even though very common name is also very beautiful to me.
  19. seaglassorganic
I love that my niece is named Jane.
  20. filinsk
A few people have mentioned Sophie/Sophia. I think that's such a cute name that works all the way through someone's life.
  21. zoooni
I think my niece has a great name Zoya
and people tell me my name is really unique zooni
  22. legbamel
I think the world needs more women named Kaia, although I quite like Zoya as well. I knew a woman named Lisbeth and I still like it as an alternative for Elizabeth.

  42. AndiBob
    SONIA
    CLAIRE
    SILVANA
    MARILU
    GRETA
    1. msbaby
I love the name Claire for a girl, but I have a friend who is named Claire and if I used it my other friends might feel slighted. That is another naming consideration; you have to be careful to consider who already has the name!
  43. legbamel
I'm just thinking through some of the other names I've heard. I do like Sonia (or Sonya) and Sophia. I know someone named Trinka, and I always liked that, as well as Katarina or Katrina.
  44. harmony0stars
Apothecary (Cary for short... #1 if I ever had a daughter name)
Tomorrow (used this one in a story I wrote)
Jillian (one of my favorite characters from Charles de Lint)
Emmalee (a coworker's name; I like the spelling)
    Geneva
Amaranth (actually a plant that produces a sweat grain used in pastries)
    Blue
    Chameleon (Cammy for short)
Delphine (as in the oracle of Delphi)
    Fern
    Calliope (the muse)
    Persephone (the goddess)
    Rosaline (means rose garden)
Serenity (I liked the show lol)
Threnody (means mourning song, but I still like it)
Veritas (I used this one in a story I wrote, means truth)
Xenobia (or Zenobia... a queen thought to have been related to Cleopatra, means "city" of strangers)
Candace (my name, though I liked it more before everyone started naming all their kids Candace lol... hereditary title of Queens of Ethiopia... means light or clarity)
    1. msbaby
Apothecary? Isn't that another name for drug store?
    1. msbaby
But what if the baby girl is not very peaceful? Or might she rebel and be anything but peaceful because of her name? Do names have the power to mold a person's personality?
  45. kirewass

    Máiréad
    Róisín
    Siobhán

some traditional irish ones for you
    1. msbaby
Are Scottish and Irish baby girl names similar? A friend of mine recently named her little girl Maeve and I thought it was an Irish name, but my friend's parents are from Scotland.
  48. Friday13
    Moxie CrimeFighter.
    1. msbaby
Moxie might be workable for some that picture a sassy, empowered personality in the making. But I'm not so sure about Crimefighter would be the best baby girl's name. She might get picked on by the other kids.
    2. Friday13
Well, tell that to Penn Jillette. That's what he named his daughter.
  49. trbishop
    Tanya Kristiana

    Marisol
    Alethia
    Anastacia
    Nicholette
    Lisette
    Cordelia
  52. Sebastyne
Sorry for the off topic; I'm so glad I don't have to pick a baby name! All the names I like, my husband hates, and I'm currently trying to pick a name for my new favourite Barbie doll and even that seems impossible. Imagine that being a child that will grow up to have her own opinion of the name...
    1. Anniepooh
LOL Hubby and I always fought over names. We never agreed until D-Day - most likely because we HAD to by then.
  53. msbaby
Aren't all Barbie dolls named...Barbie? I didn't know that we were allowed to rename them. I never really thought about naming them something other than that. I had several at any given time and I just thought of them as Barbie. They didn't even get a number as in number one, two or so on and so forth.

If I didn't think of giving my dolls new names, you can see why I need suggestions for names for baby girls.
  54. Anniepooh
I'll give you the 5 I already used:

Cassidy, Megan, Erin, Kathleen and Lara (pronounced LAHr-ah)
  55. msbaby
I already have a little Cassidy! The reason that I picked this baby girl name was because one of the meanings of the name was "girl with the curly hair". As her mom and dad both have curly hair, I knew the definition or meaning would fit her perfectly, and it does.
  56. Lanix1436
    ok this are my favorite:
    Jeanisse
    Naihla
    Jianna
    Nicole
    Sharlian
    Mykaela
    Nixzaliz
    1. msbaby
Nixaliz? Nixy or Nickie for short?
    2. Lanix1436
Exactly! That's my best friends name, and we just call her Nixa. :0)
  57. calais50
    Alani
    Alaina
    Natalia
    Celeste
    Gia
    Erica
  58. webmoney
I have a baby girl name Margie.

If I have a baby girl again will be name Marjorie,Melissa,Melinda and more names that I could think of...
    1. msbaby
Looks like you will have a houseful of M&Ms! Is Margie short for anything? What is her middle name? I am interested in hearing naming combinations.
  59. deoangel
    D'Orsay (pronounced "D or say")
    Heaven or Neveah
    Leona
    Love
  60. ArsenicCookies
I like Azaria too, but I think that movie pretty much ruined the use of that name
  61. foodhere
New a woman many years ago who named her daugher Alibi. I was thought that was kind of neat
    1. msbaby
I'm not sure that I know how to pronounce this name. Could you tell me?
  62. Hels
I only had sons, but if I had a daughter, she would have been named from this list:
    Rebecca
    Naomi
    Amanda
    Sophia
    Amelia
  63. msbaby
Boys have their benefits over girls, but it would have been nice to have at least one so that you could have used one of those pretty names. I particularly like Amelia. I'm beginning to see a pattern of an affinity towards girl's names beginning with the letter "A".
  64. CoyoteRose
    Addison
    Annabelle
    Madison

Personally, I love the name Georgianna Dove (dove being the middle name).
    1. msbaby
Dove is nice and I used to love Madison as well as Addison awhile back until every other baby girl in our area was named one or the other. When I was born my mom says that the hip baby girl names (as she remembered them) were Jennifer and Christopher. I have to say she was right as there were more than a few girls whose nickname was Jenny in my class alone.
  65. Onchong
Aphrodite, Demeter, Penelope, Clytemnestra, Medusa, Naiads, Cassiopeia, Artemis, Hera, Hestia, Athena, Atalanta, Minerva, Charites, Calliope, Clio, Daphne, Eilithyia, Erinyes, Echo, Erato, Euterpe, Gaea, Hebe, Hemera, Hyqieia, Melpomene, Nymph, Persephone, Polyhymnia, Phoebe, Pandora, Rhea, Tyche, Terpsichore, Thaleia, Tethys, Themis, Urania, Antigone, Ceres, Fortuna, Diana, Juno, and Vesta
    1. msbaby
I rather like the way Persephone and Aphrodite roll of the tongue, but there is no way in this world that my husband that anybody could convince a male to name his baby girl Nymph or Aphrodite either for that matter.

If I remember this lady, Aphrodite, of Ancient Greece (not claiming to be an expert so don't jump on me if I get it wrong), she was she was born when Uranus' son Cronus thought he'd castrate dear old dad. He then tossed the severed genitals into the sea, and from the sea rose Aphrodite. Is there any wonder that not many girls are graced with this name?

Thanks for taking the time to make so many unique and interesting suggestions, Onchong. But some I can't pronounce and some are just too closely related to URANUS! LOL...really Aphrodite AND Themis to name a few.
    2. LynneaUrania
Not graced with the name, "Urania?" Actually, Uranus is from the Greek, "Ouranos," meaning, Heaven. Urania means, "Of Heaven." My middle name derives from Isis Urania, or Isis of Heaven.
  66. busylizzy
My cousin named her baby girl, Willow.
  67. Gossamer
    Zoey
    Harley
Esperanza (It's my Grandma's name. It's spanish for Hope)
    Millie
    Alice

This was actually hard thinking of girl names I like. Boy names are easy and I can list at least 20 that I like.
    1. msbaby
I've known men named Harley but never a girl. Your grandmother's name Esperanza is lovely. Thanks for sharing
  68. msbaby
Uranus is yet another name that has a lovely meaning with a less than lilting sound (at least to my unsophisticated ears). I suppose the reason I was so amused with myself for using the name in a post was due to too many late nights listening to Craig Ferguson make similar jokes on his show.
  69. darren1985
    Roseme
    Zooey
    Joyy
    Ginny
  70. msbaby
I've never seen the name Joy spelled in that fashion. Nor am I aware of any baby girls named Zooey. Zoey, I have seen named further up this very list but I suppose there could be any number of spelling variations.
  71. catherineneal
    Elaine
    Catherine
    Juniper
    Star
    Michelle
    Amber
  72. msbaby
Star brings Flower Power, the 1960s Summer of Love or the ousted host from "The View". But it is a no-nonsense, one syllable name that is positive and therefore not out of the question.

Juniper reminds me of a bad experience I had with some gin once upon a time so that would not be a good thing. And I already presented Amber as a possibility (I have already admitted an affection for baby girl names beginning with the letter A although I have no idea why) and my grandmother shot it down in a hurry because of an old book called "Forever Amber". Apparently Amber is far too lusty a name for a child because of this novel. I made a mental note to put this infamous volume on my reading list. See what censorship does, grandma?
    1. msbaby
That makes two votes for Sonya or the alternate spelling, Sonia, as a good name for a baby girl. I have a question; do you pronounce this name as S-oh-nya with a long vowel sound or S-ah-nya with a short vowel sound?
  73. chosenclick
    Jessica Lorraine
  74. robinj
Two thing to remember an 'A' name gets you to the front of the line quicker than a 'Z' name and while you might be able to spell a 20 letter name your child will be ultimately be grateful for anything under 5 letters
    1. msbaby
An excellent point! That bumps the name, Zoey, way down on the list.
  75. msbaby
I was just reading where Lisa Bonet named her baby boy Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Am I being old fashioned in my search for the best names for baby girls? Should I be more creative and go for something similar to what she did only more feminine?
  76. thegnr
    7even
    sharobi
    zelly
    raine
    glenys
  77. msbaby
Zelly, another girl's name starting with the letter Z to add to Zoey! I have to ask, does the first name you suggested contain a typographical error?
    1. thegnr
no I thought 7even spelled like that would give the kid a nice conversation piece for years and years to come.
    1. sensico
I like the name Ashanti, like the singer
  78. sensico
I like the name Emma, and Brittanie, and I'm also a fan of the name Zoey
  79. jeremylong
    Isabella
    Angel
    Furl
    Olivia
    Nicole
  80. msbaby
thegnr, can you imagine how a baby's name that started with a numeric character rather than a letter of the alphabet with throw the alphabetizing systems?

Wasn't there some kind of uproar over a controversial name that contained numbers a few years back and the parents were refused the right to put their chosen name on their baby's birth certificate?
    1. thegnr
ok forget 7even how about Serenity as a name
  81. sisterofmercy
    Madison is a lovely name
    Also,
    Elizabeth
    Willow
    Persephone
  82. msbaby
I agree that Madison is a beautiful name. Perhaps because of its loveliness, it's been way too overused in my area of the country as has Elizabeth. The bad thing about Elizabeth is that people shorten it to "Beth". I find it sad to take such an elegant name and shorten it with such unattractive results.

This is the second vote for Willow or the third if you count my own. And as for Persephone, I love the way it sounds but I don't like that one other Persephone was found attractive by the God of Hell and abducted. That's just too much baggage to put on a baby girl.

Am I wrong to consider the history of others who have worn these names?
  83. burningwindmil
    milly
    poppy
    tilly
  84. msbaby
Milly might be acceptable. But Poppy is too closely related to opium production and isn't there a poem about two ton Tilly?

I'm glad that the other poster seemed to see my point about names containing numbers. Serenity now!!!
  85. Jeunelle
Jerusha...a biblical princess daughter of a king (happens to be my baby sister's name)
This name is at the moment not commonly used and that is hard to find in this day and age.
I can't stand Tiffany & Ashley and they both have a ass whopping coming from me when I see them two. They both owe me money.
  86. msbaby
Jeunelle and Jerusha! Your mother really did her homework well on those two very unique and pleasant names. I like them both. Next to baby girl names starting with the letter A, I lean toward those starting with the letter J. Perhaps it's because every male in my family is named with one starting with that letter. That tradition was followed with only one girl.

The names Tiffany and Ashley were really trendy there for awhile weren't they? I like Ashley for a boy but there are too many pole dancers on television named Tiffany lately. What's up with that?
  87. jadeflower
    I like the name, Cyan.
    1. msbaby
My husband informed me that names that start with the letter "S" are out of the question as I have a slight lisp. NOW he tells me. So, Sophie, Sophia and a few other nice ones are negatively affected by this (rather crass) news flash.
  88. Sebastyne
I replied this earlier but I got a good short list of girl names recently for other purposes.

    Norah
    Valkyrie or Valerie
    Rebecca
    Olivia
    Agnes
Megan -> Meg -> Nutmeg (Comes with nicknames)
    Jonet
    Esther

These are no pushover Disney princess names!
    1. msbaby
It would be difficult to picture a girl named Valkyrie as a pushover or a prissy princess.

And a girl hung with the name NUTMEG (!) (?) had better be tough to handle those who dare to tease.
  89. trbishop
Frances Dominique (so u can call her Frankie NIck, lol)
    1. Stillthinking
      That is lovely.
