So we all know about Global warming but it is all ready old topic theres alot of people that don't even care because they thinks its not bad but i have to say its know or never look at the chages around you.
The ice is melting images say theres now 40-45% less polar ice than in years 1997-2000. This means that the amount of melted ice is shocking 2,5 million squarekilometers which is 1,5 million squaremiles.
Which means that the ice could be gone in 2027

Some movies that tell about the thing that is happening right "NOW"!

Thank you for highlighting the fact that the effects of global warming are more imminent than the vast majority of the population realizes.

I will do my part to spread the message.

Yes please i thank you. We can all make a change.

Good point and should be the topic of conversation more often. I've been reading many articles about global warming and the dangers are very real indeed. It's a shame that the people that can do something about it like the governments and businesses seem reluctant to do so. I hear a lot of statements like "why should we worry, it's not going to happen in our lifetime", truth is it's already effecting the planet in a big way. A lot of attitudes is if it's not on your doorstep why should we worry.
I will be posting more articles on the effects of global warming on my news blog, my post just two days ago was the eco catastrophe on the black sea when a tanker spilt more than 2,000 tons of oil killing more than 30,000 birds. Good post.

      Tony,
Despite the Kyoto agreement,it is a sad fact that economic considerations take precedence over concerns of environmental degradations of the only home we will ever have. In spite of mounting evidence of man's contributions to global warming, there is a lack of commitment by governments to tackle this issue and one day, we might just find the price to high to pay for our children.

What ordinary citizens like us can do is to constantly raise awareness of global warming and its effects on society, like your post about the recent oil spill in the Black Sea. Hopefully it will make a difference.

Don't think about your life time think about the hole humans life time we have to deal with this problem

I've just been trying to find an article I was reading a couple of weeks back but can't find it now, it was a group of scientists which submitted new reports that original estimates of the damaging effect of global warming were grossly underestimated and the fact that the longer we leave it unattended the more it's going to be accelerated.
If anyone remembers and can post the link I think you'd find it interesting.

This is bad news for the whole world everyone should start thinking what can be done about this. Some how there has to be a way. The problem for the USA is we have a president who choses to act like this is a not true. The only thing he thinks is true that this war in Iraq is making him and his friend tons of money. That money could be used to help create a solution to this problem.

In light of the fact that noone seems to be taking global warming seriously (world leaders not you and I) I'll just run around the room screaming and flapping my arms!

Unfortunately I'm a naysayer and see global warming for what it really is...a profitable industry making certain people billions of dollars. The real damage to the earth is pollution not global warming.

Too many experts in the field have said it is a farce and have backed it up with hard evidence and yet the chicken littles refuse to see it. I guess no one remembers the 1970's when we were told that global COOLING was a major threat lol.

All the leading experts have said that yes human beings do contribute to climate but all of us together and the things we do contribute less than a tenth of one percent.

Timothy Ball, one of the first Canadian doctors in climatology, recently wrote an article addressing the issue of why no one seems to be listening to scientists who claim that global warming is NOT man-made. He starts by writing, “Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science”. He continues, “We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.” Then he mentions how Environment Canada is spending billions upon billions of dollars on “propaganda” which defends an “indefensible scientific position while at the same time closing weather stations and failing to meet legislated pollution targets.” Then Dr. Ball brings up a very interesting point that everyone should take into consideration, citing that 30 years ago, in the 1970s everyone was talking about “global cooling” and how it was the defining issue of our lives, our species, that our very survival depended on what we did it about it. Interesting, sounds like every Canadian politician. Ball continues to explain that climate change is occurring, but that it is because it is always occurring, it is a natural change that is a result of the changes in the Sun’s temperature. He explains that we are currently leaving what was known as a Little Ice Age and that the history of Earth is riddles with changes in the climate. That’s what climate does and is always doing, changing. Dr. Ball claims that “there is nothing unusual going on,” and that he “was as opposed to the threats of impending doom global cooling engendered as [he was] to the threats made about Global Warming.”

Check out the film the Great global warming swindle....Unfortunately it only uses experts in the field instead of Al Gore.

      Well said, Talen.

I'm a big advocate for mankind stewarding the resources of the earth. I wrote a post called "Global Warming or Not" because I think it is our duty, as caretakers of this planet, to recycle, reuse, and reduce. I am for alternative energy because I know it is the morally right solution as we see the wars, corruption and violence that circles the use and rights of oil, a non-renewable energy source. Corporations need to invest money into green business practices (let's start with alternative energy). In addition, manufacturers of packaging must invest more money into R&D to find eco-friendly packaging solutions. I am disgusted by the use of plastics (in the US we hide our dumps , but all one needs to do is travel to developing nations to see the plethora of plastics littering streets, cities and countrysides, only to pollute the planet for generations!). Clearly, manufacturers of plastics should be held accountable for finding eco-friendly solutions, influencing the supply chain of users on a global level.

At the same time, I think Talen's post is correct.

      Perspectives of this documentary include:

"We can't say that CO2 will drive climate; it certainly never did in the past."

Ian Clark, Dept. of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa

We have to deal with this problem what about we all shall have a blog post the 5 January and dedicate that day to be the day where we as a human changede the world by bloging and debating and talking with people by the global warming and say what they can do to stop the global warming.
  10. varniticula
I'm sorry but I do believe in global warming and there is hard evidence that correlates between humans and earth behaviors. Pollution, CO2 levels and all that jazz is going to sink us, unless we conserve energy and get most of our priveleged lazy asses to respect our planet by recyling, not being careless with matches - that caused acres of forest fires, planting trees and cleaning up after ourselves.
  11. latinocool79
Americans want to stop global warming? I doubt you succeed in trying to convice your fellow americans but you think they will suddently stop consuming? A family has like 3 to 5 cars where they can live with 2 or even one. Besides even if the US does anything, the other countries probably will not so then the USA will not handle the economic disaster that will arise. We humans are greedy and should worry about feeding the hunger in first place but hey... that does not affect America huh. It is destiny baby. Look at George Bush rattling into Irak talking about nuclear bombs and crap. Real reason: Money and Power. So if they could do that I just do not think they will start promoting less consumption. Greetings and I support your effort but people will not change if our leaders don´t stop beings pathetic morons. That is how it is. PEACE BABY!
    1. lisamcglaun
I'm american. We are a family of 7. We have two cars. I don't know anyone who has 3 to 5 cars. Maybe that is a misconception of people in other countries about Americans.
    2. dharmagypsy7
Actually Australia has more Carbon output than any other countries...

The problem isn't established countries like the U.S... Even though we get a lot of flack for being a consumerist nation.. there's a lot of people who DO care about the environment and try to live better. Of course, there could always be more.

it's the countries that are developing that is using coal power and such that can pose a greater threat than anything else.

    Great discussion really guys.

Global warming or not, our planet is not being treated kindly. Everything gets exaggerated for the sake of monetary gain or swindle, I'm sure.
I guess what I'm saying couldn't be said any better than what globalgirl has expressed. We do have an obligation to stop being selfish gluttons. I dream of walking to the creek and not seeing non biodegradeable plastics and city waste all around. We have been poor stewards.
  14. talen32
    Globalgirl,
unfortunately the landfills, plastics and pollution in general have taken a back seat to the global warming issue because it makes money. The pollution problem costs money and is far to political to be touched on anymore.
    1. globalgirl
      exactly!
    2. lisamcglaun
How can you say that only a small about of the temperature change is caused by humans and in the same breath say that the overriding cause is pollution? Where do you think the pollution is coming from? I'd say us, ie the humans.

So to me that says humans are the overriding cause of our planets problems.
  15. xtremer
I think WE must do something to stop this.....this might help you

    wats-ur-opinion.blogspot.com/2007/10/some-measures-to-save-our-mother-earth...

Yes humans are the overriding cause of the worlds pollution problems. Global warming is based on supposed c02 levels and they are two distinctly different things.

Talen, the scientist you are quoting is wrong about several things. First of all, this part:

“Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science”. He continues, “We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.”

Useless rhetoric. We can just ignore that...

As far as we know, the "little ice age" was only a regional cooling of climate around Europe, not a global phenomenon. The sharp, unprecedented surface temperature increases seen over the last few decades are based on global average. The global cooling effect of mid-20th century is explained by the high rate of sulfur emissions at that time. Sulfur aerosols have a cooling effect because they reflect incoming sunlight in the atmosphere. It wasn't until the 1970s, with higher and higher rates of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions and decreases in sulfur that the warming effect of these greenhouse gases overpowered the cooling effect of the aerosols. And satellite measurements of solar output over the last few decades do not show enough variation to account for the rate of warming, so that's out. But they can account for some of the moderate warming that took place in the early 20th century.

All of this research is readily accessible in the scientific literature.

    August,

I'm very glad you started this duscussion. I'm worried that it will take us so long to stop debating and start acting that our too little too late efforts will not be enough.

    Good videos that you posted.

  20. dharmagypsy7
Well we can discuss it all you want but you also have to take actions...

Minimize your carbon input... use public transpo if you can.. or try to live on one car or buy a hybrid...

Try to buy Organic and support fair trade

Buy CFL... recycle and minimize your trash output

try to consume less... which means don't buy things you don't need...

    buy Energy star brands...

do small things and we can make a difference..

and I write an Eco-friendly blog if anyone wants to check it out.
  21. talen32
"Useless rhetoric. We can just ignore that..."

Of course you can ignore it...but the worlds leading scientists haven't ignored it and I happen to believe them.
    1. RMania
You focus on that one sentence I wrote... meanwhile I addressed every false or misleading claim that scientist made to support his ridiculous claim that global warming is some sort of hoax. I guess you don't have any response to the things I said.
  22. nusuni
I wonder if anyone realizes how much energy they are wasting by talking about global warming every 2 seconds?
    1. dharmagypsy7
I don't think it's a waste to discuss it.. but I hope people are also taking action too..

It doesn't have to be a drastic lifestyle change.. but just being conscious of couple things could make an impact.
  23. talen32
"You focus on that one sentence I wrote... meanwhile I addressed every false or misleading claim that scientist made to support his ridiculous claim that global warming is some sort of hoax. I guess you don't have any response to the things I said."

So because you say it is false and misleading that makes it so? He is not the only scientist who believes this. Top scientists in the fields of climatology, meteorology and geology have echoed this and taken it much further.

As far as the little ice age being regional you should do more searching...yes, some believe it was regional but most confuse it with the mid 20th century cooling which is not the same. The little ice age started sometime in the 1700's and declined in the 1970's.

As far as aerosols that has been debated hotly for decades. The majority of these areosols occur naturally and there has been no evidence of decline in these aerosols so if these aerosols effected the climate then, then why not now?

As for man made aerosols there have been many studies and and most conclude the same way:

There are no dramatic long term drops starting in the year 1978 when the EPA implemented a ban on CFC aerosols, or dramatic long term increases in the 1930's when CFC aerosols were first produced.

So, by simple logic, we are left again with the fact that CO2 emissions don't match the temperature record over the 20th century.

Also the cooliing effect of the mid 20th century wasn't world wide as a matter of fact it was only in the northern hemisphere. The southern hemisphere showed a drop in temperature for only one year and that was 1946. Many scientists noted changes in ocean currents and hurricane cycles at that time and have further studied its effect relating to weather not aerosols.
  24. dharmagypsy7
Solar radiation is not the cause of recent global warming, two scientists say in a report published by Britain’s Royal Society, the country’s science organization. The study was undertaken partly to rebut a TV documentary that argued natural solar radiation, not human activity, is the cause of global warming, the BBC reported.

The Great Global Warming Swindle, a documentary made by a group of scientists brought together by documentary-maker Martin Durkin stated if the planet is heating up, it isn’t your fault and there’s nothing you can do about it. “Earth’s 4.5 billion year history is one long story of climate change. This fact is pretty much accepted by those who think global warming is a natural process, and those who think it’s caused by man.”

It is this show which prompted two Scientists, Mike Lockwood from the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Britain and Claus Fröhlich from the World Radiation Center in Switzerland to see if this was actually the case, This is what they found.

Their report in the Proceedings of the Royal Society A said there is evidence that the sun affected Earth’s climate up to about 1950.
But in the past 20 years, “all the trends in the sun that could have had an influence on the Earth’s climate have been in the opposite direction to that required to explain the observed rise in global mean temperatures.”

The Power of the Sun peaked in 1985 but the the Earth’s temperature has steadily risen 0.4 C before the peak and even after. They also studied two other measures of solar activity, solar flux and cosmic rays, and both suggested solar activity has been declining since the late 1980s.
In an another report, Scientists detail the actual cost of Global Warming. Wilting heat, deadly storms, flash floods, coastal erosion, more days with unhealthy air - those are just some of the effects of rising temperatures on the Northeast United States. But the Global Warming will not just impact Economics but also on our health.

With more days over 100 degrees, and more unhealthy air days, more people will suffer from asthma and other respiratory ailments, and more will require emergency care due to extreme heat, the report says. The allergy season will last longer, and more people will suffer more serious effects. Because many pests thrive in warmer, dirtier air, farmers may be forced to use more pesticides and herbicides to protect their crops.

I just bought a solar system and changed all the bulbs in my lamps With a little help from my mother i still don't make so much money but when you have bought it you will save a lot of money and best of all help the world living.

    Lisa

You are right we all need to act and do something about this issue.
Thats why i would say to all people that read this and i talk with to change there life still just a little so the can make a big change for the world.

    Changes you bulbs
    Buy a solar system
    Don't let thinks stand standby
use only the water you need
cycle or work to school or work

This is easy things that not only will make you life long also the worlds live longer.

and this is cheap and can make you life even cheaper. But also so much richer

    It's amazing...

A person buys a small green car, hoping to save the environment.... and then dramatically increases their probability of dying in a car accident, because they are now putting along in a rollerscate with a motor attached...

See, there is a flipside to all the Global Warming hysteria that doesn't get talked about.... this being just one small issue...

The real issue is economics.... wrecking our economy to limit our co2 output to that of a 3rd world country...

Throwing our economy into continual recession, while increasing the incidence of fatal car accidents are only the tip of the iceburg of the problems that could develop if we were to fully subscribe to what the greenies demand that I do...

Of course, this doesn't get reported nearly as much.... as the media would rather us believe that Global Warming now leads to freezing temps and snow in Baghdad....

Level headed conservation efforts and more research and development into ideas like clean coal are very valid methods of working to resolve co2 emission concerns.... but the truth of the matter is that co2 levels have been on the rise since long before the industrial age even started...

Several years ago, the environmentalist went on a rampage to warn everyone about the coming ice age....as featured in Newsweek magazine....

Knee jerk reactions to something that could potentially do longterm damage to people's livlihoods is not desireable with an issue that has science on both sides of the issue...

For every website you direct me to, designed to scare me about global warming, I could direct you to a website that offers hundreds of quotes from scientists that say the earth is trending along it's natural course - and that warming trends and cooling trends will go on regardless of what man does or doesn't do.

This is such a deep and confusing issue for sure. I regularly bounce back and forth between believing it's all a hoax, and planning what I'll do with my Missouri beachfront property in 2020.
