Fascinating. The algorithm change makes sense and is welcomed.

      I'm with you on that.

Definitely takes the steam out of blog network link spam PR throttling.

i had a guy optimise his comment that way the other day, i deleted it, he was promoting sullivan guitars, I just laughed and deleted .it. It was a masterpiece of optimisation but hilarious. .... he just didn't get the idea that any sensible human would just delete something like that....I was going to run a Web lesson based on his post, now due to this change I won't bother

      It's good news.

Maybe Google should have an "anti-blackhat SEO" task force set up?

      they have

      and vkobra works for them

this is the google webspam department (Matt Cutt is the boss of this dept.)

Informative post and as the author sums it up, we should not play games but rather "produce quality content and build ethical links." How very true!

bleh I've wasted SOO much time

This doesn't hurt link builders and spammers, this only hurts people who have 'sculpted' pagerank on their sites, exactly like I have defined in my post: Carving Pagerank using nofollow and link orders: codesucker.blogspot.com/2009/05/carving-inner-pagerank-via-link.html

Do not follow that advice. I'm gonna have to edit the post now to tell people its useless

And yes, this is happening, Matt Cutts tweeted something about this - and many other bloggers are writing the same thing

I'm a bit confused about why this is a big deal. I read the blog post and from what I gather the algoritham change is only going to hurt people who use no follow for their outgoing links. Big deal. Maybe a 1/10 of 1/2 percent of the people with blogs do that.

@Potato - That's very correct. This doesn't hurt the average blogger or webmaster at all. This only hurts SEOs who have tried to game the system by labeling some links nofollow so the others carry more juice.

Hurts people who make money off their blogs selling links. Matt Cutts has been on the war path against link sellers for some time now. The most obvious example has been the whole payperpost and smorty fiasco of last year. There's also talk of unpublicized behind the scenes PR ownage of link sellers.
