I've Just been through one article posted on news.cnet.com. The title of the article went like this - Google, the great destroyer of value? You can read the whole article here - news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10164284-16.html
Well, I am a great admirer of google and its services. But after reading that article, I am supposed to believe that google is lacking something.
Is google really losing its value? Is it becoming unethical? Please have your say...

I personally think that Google really does not care about content, - In other words they greater on indexing any content but they failed to provide quality and relevant content!
Google is a monopoly and at the end they do whatever they please- and we as a consumers have no control over it! Very sad!!! Google has become the marketplace for all.
Thank you for sharing this article!
cheers! Happy Valentines!-
Google is not a monopoly. There are a variety of companies competing in various arenas in which Google operates. It's as big as it is for the simple reason that more people choose to use it. There are a variety of other search engines, but most people choose Google--actively, since it isn't the default search engine for most of us unless we choose it. There are a variety of other quick and easy pay-per-click companies, but more people choose to sign up with AdSense.

Google is a behemoth and in such a little time (compared to others), it was able to succeed like no other search engine provider had before. But at the end of the day, everything just points to profit and it is business as usual. Google takes advantage of it's power to oust it's competitors. They are in what we call, buy it and let it be. Later we'll look into it. So what happens is that a good service may loose it's value. Why? Simply because, they do not care. Take doubleclick as an example, Google acquired it, and is now under ecommerce. Have you heard of ecommerce? It has little or irrelevant advertisers. Nothing important. How about feedburner? Also they are stepping in what was once supposedly against their TOS, and that is Domain Parking. I don't blame them, it is business and that is what I am concerned about. Let's see.
Anyway, I love Mr G and what it offers. Everything free has it's downside though and beware, they might just be the next mega big brother (if they're not already). -
Both Google and Microsoft want monopoly...they end up taking all other small growing companies eg:Google acquired feedburner,Microsoft tried to acquire yahoo.I like the big G,and I don't their algorithms for ranking, but I have been said 'Back links' are more important than content for good page ranking

Google is google, it is just another company like Microsoft is another company. Branding makes them look like more, it is an attempt to make them look good. All companies do this. It brings in more cash and prestige. Buying into any companies brand is always a sceptical proposition.

I think they have to many projects, and need to hire an army to get them done. They start new stuff than don't finish it. Like Friend connect, Blogger, gadgets, and a ca trillion others. It would be better to make a few things great, than many that are not.

Hey TravelDeals - Happy Valentines Day to you too. Now, going through all these comments, I am quite impressed with what Mr. diTesco has put here. I agree to what he said - "But at the end of the day, everything just points to profit and it is business as usual."
Yes, it all comes to business in the end. Just like him, I am also in love with Mr. G and what it offers. Long Live Google

I like the fact that Google services are free and easy to use. If they continue to follow their slogan "Don't be evil" I don't think we have much to worry about.
That being said, I still am leery as to exactly what I put out there on the world wide web. That is something we all need to think about no matter what services or companies we put our faith in.-
I think Google as a search engine has its problems. I know that I often search for things I know should be available and often end up wasting my time sorting through stuff I don't want to see.
The only way I see to fix this problem is to allow users to "tag" pages. I would love to see websites that have been tagged useful by Grade 4 teachers for example. That would help me immensely in finding materials, worksheets, and websites to use in my lesson plans.
I can;t be the first person to have thought of this. I know stumble upon works kind of the same way but all I find there is interesting stuff not useful stuff, for the most part.

No and no. There are many search engines and I use a lot of them. However, the best and most popular over all is Google. Frankly, I'm tired of reading article taking pot shots at Google and trying to get traffic and hits by trumping up articles that contain little substance and nothing that's new. IMO the game the system players are at fault for any perceived loss of value in search results, and not Google.
