googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-me...

Q: Does this mean that Google will always ignore the keywords meta tag?
A: It's possible that Google could use this information in the future, but it's unlikely. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for years and currently we see no need to change that policy.

Now take a look at this:

For me I will still use keywords meta tags, it is still an essential part of a website.

What do you think about this?

    Thoughts:
A website or a blog with higher pagerank will always be higher in search result.

    Example: Blog-A has a pagerank 5
Blog-B has a pagerank 9 with copied keywords meta tags from Blog-A.

=Blog-B will always be higher in search ranking.

I assume your example was meant to be:

      Example: Blog-B has a pagerank 9,
Blog-A has a pagerank 5, with copied keywords meta tags from Blog-B.
=Blog-B will always be higher in search ranking.

At least it makes more sense the way.

Suppose I copied your Keyword meta tag. If My pagerank is higher than you than I will always be ahead of you in the search result.

Updates: Matt says it is no use fighting over keyword theft.

This is just what I am thinking at the moment.
    3. weblogian
If what I said is true. Isn't stealing someone's keywords a matter of concern?
    4. husdal
Ok, I think I see what you mean. If Google only used the keywords, and if your PR were higher than mine, and if you copied my keywords, than you probably would rank higher in SERP than me, I guess that would be true.

And that is most likely why Google stopped using them.

Besides, it is the content that should matter, not the keywords, don't you agree?
    5. weblogian
      Yes,
What about keywords in the content

There was a brief exchange about this the other day
    www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/google-doesnt-use-the-keywords-meta-tag

I will not stop using keywords on my blog either, as there is no telling what other search engines are doing, even though Google vis disregarding the keywords.

That said, I usually focus more on the meta description than the meta keywords, since that 'snippet' is what Google most often displays in SERPs.
    1. weblogian
      Oh I didn't see that

Maybe Google doesn't use the meta tag keywords in page rank, but I see a lot of website which has no related contents stay first at the google SERP while it has a lot of keywords related to the search query.

In the other hands, some of my page which have similar keywords seems failed to reach the first page of the SERP.

Google ranking is still a mystery, and sure will put us a lot in misery ...

thats a load of balls. Google reads the metas.. and i hgave proved it many times as my descriptions used in the meta tags come up again and again in the google search results.
If you read about how you should optimize your site on the related page on google webmaster tools then you will see that it is being read. But page rank and search rank are two different matters. page Rank is more to do with incoming and outgoing links and the page rank of those incoming links too, as well as the content topic if it is related to the content of your website or not. so a website with info about wedding cakes that has high PR ranking pages that are about weddings linking to him will get theoretically a better ranking than a page that has the same amount of high PR ranking pages linking to him that are about motorbikes. This is because google tries to detect what the subject material of the sites linking to each other are about and include that in their pr (page rank) criteria when giving ranking.
Having said this.. i do not believe they hyave enough accuracy to be able to discriminate fairly yet.. but discriminate they do.
Fopr example, if you have more than 2 links to the same domain in one blog post and host on blogger, you will rin a serious danger of blogger deleting or at least blocking your website and being classified as spam.. so what if you are a blog who is listing torrent files? oyu might have 50 links all to mininova.org and another 30 to piratebay.org for example in a post..
this will get you classified as spam simply because the dumbskull robots and spiders scan your blog and detect more than one link to same domain in one post.. and presto you are a spammer.
This is a ridiculous and lazy criteria so they dont have to have real people in the office checking if theiur blogspot blogs are spam or not. As m any of us know there is no way to directly email blogger anymore you have to post on a forum and hope for an answer. There is no customer service or contact available.. this is because there is no one home they left it to the spiders and robots and all went to the beach for the year.
As a result.. spammers still spam away happily and innocent bloggers get to suffer for the fact there are spammers who still manage to get around google even with the two links in one post rule.

But back to keywords.. google says itself that they read them!
not putting keyword meta and description meta in your head of page will get you black stars for non optimized page. Even worse than this.. with the ease of administration we have with cms and blogs, we have the disadvantage that any description tag put in the head of the template will be the same one in every page! Google disqualifies for this (repeated cases of/identical description tags in different pages) - the best way to get around this with cms or blogs is with blogs like wordpress you have an seo plugin which will insert html metas into each different page and post which will appear in the head of the page when php writes it on the server every time a browser calls it.
With blogger this is not possible of course.
Another way to get good rank apart from good incoming links and correct meta tags is to have e hellofa load of outgoing links to related websites on your site. Believe me, not only people linking to you gets counted.. you linking to them counts a lot too.
this is why i laugh my socks off when i see blogs who take info from other sites and instead of inserting a link to the site they are citing or quoting they just put plain text of the name of the site in.. theiy are thinking jealously and dont want anyone to click on the link and leave their site but they are in fact losing out on potential deep linking as it works both ways, not one way. when google reads how many links that big site has coming from elsewhere.. it also therefore reads where theose links came from.. so if you link to the new york times, when google and analytics checks the incoming links it will notice your site too, and thus register this in its database.. one more link to you! not just to them

By the way i can give a full detailed explanation of how to optimise your blog or site, or even optimise it personally, which takes three weeks work to do it properly submitting to the most important registrys and creating the campaing to gain position on the chosen keywords. keywords should not be chosen in the way most people think. Non competitive keywords are always the best, but also have to be non competitive keywords which have a high degree of daily world searches being entered, but no sites competing for them
I have my tools and my knowledge.
    Do You?
I get number one ranking in search results for my chosen keywords (which are not always the titles of my websites - i dont care about that, what i care about is which term do people use most to search for a particular thing.) once i got my site running for those keywords i look for supplementary ones which dont have really mega sites controlling them and then make individual pages or miniblogs about those keywords and presto i get people coming to my site for multitusdes of keywords
for my site www.sak-yant.com for example; i get number one in most countries with the words
sakyant, yant, yantra, Buddhist tattoos, Thai temple tattoo, khmer tattoo, khmer sanskrit, Thai monk tattoo, angelina jolie yant tattoo, tattoo festival thailand, thai tiger tattoo, sacred yantra, even spanish tatuajes templo, tatuaje tailandes, tatuaje monje....
see? i got many tens of keywords which give me number one or two ranking in google search results (and yahoo.. msn doesnt work as well but i still get good results.
anyone need help can hire me
  5. dharmathai
by the way keywords in the head are no good if you dont have more than 70 percent keyword density in the page
  6. dharmathai
no one knows what google got in their hidden machine but somple tests will reveal how to get the results desired.. all you have to do is spend hundreds of hours playing around with a chosen page and wait a few days each time to see what changes occur in the google search results each time you fiddle.. thats how i found out.
