Google or Yahoo?

Most Internet users put one of these two websites as their homepage on their web browsers.
Name one you prefer as your homepage from those two and explain why?

WHAT? Most internet users put Yahoo or Google as their home page?
Where did you get that info?
As for simplicity, for what it's worth, I default my browser to BLANK page.
Google search box is built into my browser (firefox and IE 7 both offer google search box as part of the toolbar). using that box, I never have to surf to google.com, but instead, the browser takes me directly to the search results page on google.-
Well that will work with you if you only want to use web search, but for using directly Image search or any other search, it is more preferred to put one of these sites as your homepage, although a blank page is more simpler and faster to load, but unfortunately both search bars in IE7 and Firefox 2.0 only have Web Search, hope Firefox 3.0 will have a more specialized and enhanced Search bar.

I agree with misterdog.
I have weather.com.au/ as mine, so I can always check it first thing in the morning.

(1) I use Google for my home search page on my Firefox browser because it's more comprehensive.
(2) I use Yahoo on my home page for my IE7 browser because it picks up many sites that have yet to be indexed by Google.
(3) I use every search engine available to me.
(4) I would prefer not to see one company with a monopoly. I have no such thing as "corporate loyalty".
N.B. There are multiple threads in the searchbox on this same topic that you may wish to consult www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/search.php?q=Yahoo or Google -

Most IE users still have MSN as their homepage and most Firefox users still have Google as their homepage.
I mostly use Google to search out of familiarity and simplicity.
But if I am doing a research-paper I use LexisNexis which is a paid for service and it digs out all information there is about a particular subject out there. -

Yahoo - mainly because I'm so used to seeing Yahoo!(for many years) when I log in. Just an old habit haha

Google. I like to have everything I need in one place, you know: Search, Blogger, Picasa, Reader, Docs and spreadsheets, Gmail, Calendar, etc

I use Yahoo for mail and Google for search. I find Yahoo mail the best of all the free web mail, it sorts your spam much better, and you can set it up to look like outlook if you want. As for searches, I find google givea me what I want faster than yahoo.

I'm a bigger fan of my own sites. But if I had to choose, I'd pick...uhm....weatherunderground.com.
I'm a weather nerd, so I get more news from what's going on in the skies than I do in the news.
I do check Yahoo Sports, but I'm not big on the delivery of news from there or Google. I get breaking news from CNN. I guess I'm not very wired. -

Min changes regularly, not the main one but most of the tabs. I default onto my gmail account, but I also run firefox with add-ins so google calender pops up on the same page. A lot of times I add an extra tabs (firefox allows you to set a homepage as either a single site or a set of tabs), such as my blog, weather.com, espn scoreboard during playoffs and a few other ones that come up from time to time, Digg if it's a slow week at work, or other sites that I have some reason to follow for a while. I prefer doing this to iGoogle's widgets cause I'd rather see the whole page and all info.
If you don't have Firefox iGoogle has tabs as well and there is a widget out there that lets you put any page in that tab. That way if you revert to going to Google all the time, and from different computers you are always looking at the same thing. I used this a lot in school when I would log in from computer centers around campus. -
I use my homepage as my homepage - I love both search engines though - but I never never in my entire life being online put someone else's homepage to open in my browser other than mine :-) which btw, is at www.AainaA.com

Yahoo searches aren't as accururate as google searches.
Yahoo doesn't index my site.
Yahoo is a bully.
Why? Google was my chosen home page -but somehow? yahoo usurped it without my permission and i cannot change my homepage back to google which i love. now everytime i log on to the internet - there's the yahoo page - i'm stuck with it.
Yahoo is a silly name. -
I never agreed to anything. Yahoo commandeered my computer!
My browser is Microsoft Explorer. When i go into 'interet options' on the tools tab, a window pops up saying, 'this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. please contact your systems administrator' (which is me). I never put these restrictions in place. since Yahoo is my new homepage all of a sudden...well just do the math.
Can you help?

Yep, everybody has her own preference, of course. Some like Ask, some like Yahoo, some like Google.
How about AskYahooGoole?

Ohmigosh, Google google google I love google! I do everything in Google - gmail, blog, documents, photos, and maps. My Yahoo account is just for junk email, and the one discussion group I'm in that runs on Yahoo. I hate yahoo because of annoying ads and the hard-to-read font; it was even hard to sign in until I got my own computer and was able to stay logged in. But I'd croak if I had to do everything on Yahoo.

Techfox, about your reply to my comment ... I was just stating my preference and why. I didn't know there was a party line we google fans were supposed to adhere to. I'm a goggle fan, and I care about fonts and such. What's the problem with that?
Yes I know there are folks who love Yahoo, obviously, or it wouldn't be here. I don't really understand why, but they're entitled to their opinion. Take what you like and leave the rest.

If you want compare search results from Google and Yahho side-by-side in the same window, try this link!

The fact that I have two different search engines as my homepage using two different browsers does not indicate that they are the only search engines that I use. When I'm researching I use other search engines as well. That is, of course, what research is all about and those who rely on only one search engine are bound to miss locating important data, thus, they cannot state that their research was comprehensive.
To avoid making apples to oranges comparisons, sounding like a fangirl or fanboy and creating a thread lacking in substance, it's important to know how all search engines operate, as well as, the ways they differ. www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/SearchEngines.html
"Google alone not always sufficient, however. Less than half the searchable Web is fully searchable in Google. Overlap studies show that more than 80% of the pages in a major search engine's database exist only in that database. Getting a "second opinion" is therefore often worth your time. We no longer recommend using any meta-search engines." -- UC Berkeley - Teaching Library Internet Workshops -
Here's an example of a search string: "how to write a thesis". If you look carefully at the results and make comparisons you will see that using more than one search engine is the intelligent thing to do when researching any topic.
Google results:
www.google.com/custom?q=how+to+write+a+thesis&sa=Search&client=pub-47946145...
Yahoo results
ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=how+to+write+a+thesis&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&co...
MSN

Lycos

@techfox
BTW the best things in life are free. No one owns a thread when they post it on the BC forum it belongs to the community and none of us can dictate what others post into it.-
Timethief,
I don't think we are supposed to put links in this thread, because it is a General Discussion thread, not a Shameless Blog Promotion one. I am sure Techfox would hate to report us as spamming, although our intentions are good!
I like the links. So thanks a lot!
Techfox,
I don't think it is spamming if we put url's here - for we are not promoting our own blogs here. Just my two cents!

This question again lol...my blog is my home page. I used to use yahoo heaps but now i use google more because the results have gone a bit weird in yahoo lately. And Msn results a few years ago used to be great, now the websites that come up are really unrelated in my opinion. I don't know what happened to Msn.
