Just saying ..
Hugging is a heart-to-heart act that does not normally occur among strangers. Hugging primarily occurs between people who have deep respect and affection for each other. That's why hugs that aren't spontaneously delivered and personally targeted have a phony baloney feel to me. In short, I don't value them because they don't ring of authenticity to me.
I don't embrace people in my everyday life unless I know them very well, and I'm sure they will welcome my advances. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people on earth behave in the same way.
Consequently, my response to invitations for group hugs among strangers is either offline or online is the same: count me out!
And, whether or not I choose to say that out loud or not, my next move will be to head for either the actual door or the virtual door.

Actually, since this whole Habitat thing I get hugged by strangers all the time. Just sayin'... -

Of course. We are friends and I read your blog so that means I'd be delighted to hug you. Shirley and are friends too and we read each other's blogs so I'd be likewise delighted to hug her as well. And, for the record, I could care less if either one of you are wearing baby oil when we CYBER hug. -

I have no idea why gosmelltheflowers invitation for a group cyber hug included "*Baby oil optional". I guess it was an inclusion that ought to have been tripped over and then ignored. [SHRUG] -

Then, even among those of us who aren't intersexed, some are secure enough not to have our masculinity (or femininity) threatened by hugging someone of the same sex.

I could do with a hug.
Hug a stranger campaign is such a wonderful idea, imagine if we all went round hugging each other. We wouldn't get much done in the way of work, but boy would the world be a happier place.
