Do you think its best to grow old gracefully? Or do you think its up to the individual if they want surgery or not and you dont think any less of them for it. Or, do you think in degrees, i.e. coloring your hair is fine but a facelift isnt?

Today is my birthday - 41, thank you. I color my hair and have been since 16 because I did not like my ashy blond color. Now I do it to hide the gray as well. I do it for me, because it makes me feel better. Definitely not because of what others may think.
I think surgeries and treatments can go overboard (Joan Rivers-but I still dig the lady-she just does not look very natural for her age). I am not judging people who do have surgeries and if I had a few extra grand lying around, I'd get my boobs done. Even so, I have great respect for those who go about life with an attitude of "this is me - deal with it". Whether it is with or without surgeries. -
Nobody wants to grow old.
Growing old means you get closer to death.
And the more you enjoy life, the more difficult it is to see it coming to an end.
And plastic surgery won't change a thing about it... -
It's a matter of personal choice, but I have grey in my hair, and that hair is getting thinner - but so what, this is my face, my years, my wrinkles, my grey hairs, my "trophies" from having had an active life. I am who I am, unvarnished, unadorned.
However, this approach won't work for all. Your mileage may vary. -

I'm good with the system God came up with--don't need (or believe I can) improve on it. I'm 42, and I've got gray in my hair...doesn't bother me a bit. I have a lot of life behind me, and a stepgrandchild already; why would I want to masquerade as a teenager?

In France after 40 years old you are considered a less worthy employee so better not look old ...
After 45 years old if you lose your job there's chance you won't find any true job any more, that's how France pretends to be "social". So many people think about chirurgy just because of economics survival. -
A person only grows old biologically. If the person thinks 'young,' it will help the person's attitude and perhaps allow him to live longer. Pessimists usually die younger than optimists.

I think age is a state of mind, your only as young as you feel. I know 40 year olds who act 20 years old! I don't see them as being old at all, sure they have a few greys and a few wrinkles but who cares!
Surgery is fine too, some people use creams and lotions, some people use surgery, as long as you feel good in yourself thats all that matters -
It depends on what makes a person happy. Personally, I don't ever see myself having plastic surgery but I would not judge a woman who chose to do that.
I am interested in looking as good as possible and for maintaining a youthful appearance; however, I choose to do it through healthy eating, diet, and taking good care of my skin.
However, I have friends that have had plastic surgery and for them, it was a good choice because it boosted their self-esteem and confidence--and that is not such a bad thing.
Whatever makes your golden years happy! -
Growing old is a gift. We all feel that we will live to a ripe old age. This is not true for everyone. I used to minister in Oakland,CA. Where I performed quite a few funerals for those that did not see the age of twenty, some did not see thirty or even forty. So now at the age of fifty-six I realize that life is a gift.
For myself now I think of leaving my mark on this world. You may may ask me "how do you plan to leave your mark on the world"? Let me tell you first, I don't have money, there is no estate to leave behind.By the way I live in a transitional housing community.
I feel That if I can touch the life of one young person that is at risk for not see the age of twenty, thirty, or even forty. Those that because bad choices and decisions will end dieing a violent death, or incarcerated.
By speaking "words of life" into they're life and giving better options Who knows they may change they're life's path to being a successful contributer to our community.
Now to me that's leaving my mark to the world. Who knows if I can reach two or more, the greater the mark. -
My grandmother got some work done when she hit seventy and her husband had died. Afterward, her energy seemed to increase a whole lot because she actually "looked more like she felt at heart". I agree with Nothingprofound, there are no rules. Besides, shouldn't one strive to do what makes one happy anyway?

I am 62, my husband is 37 and few people seem to realize there is such a great an age gap. He's nearly bald and, according to my hairdresser, I have fewer than a dozen gray hairs.
I don't like the plastic look that many people get after having cosmetic surgery...Victoria Silverstedt makes me shudder and Michael Jackson was just pathetic. I think if we get something done, it is best to stick with procedures that are corrective or restorative in nature rather than a remodel.
I'm fine with the face Mother Nature gave me...I'd like to have it back! -

I Am 23, A So-called Poet, And I Am Growing Up Believing That- 'Growing Old' Has A Romantic Feeling, A Romantic Significance Attached. And I Very Well Hate To Give Up On My Belief.
Ageing Is Different, Entirely Different. Upto An Individual, For How He Would Like To Wear His Age. -
I am 59 years old and I am losing those youthful looks and am not able to do some of the things I enjoy. I refuse to try to be something I am not. The lines in my face and the fact I cannot play basketball like I use to means I have to learn to use those things to my benefit. I now ride a mountain bike 10-15 miles when I ride and I look at my wrinkles as lines of life. Bald, short and manly.
