- Guest blogging opportunities, arrangements & concerns
I have arranged for publication of guest blog posts on two of my blogs with selected bloggers (BC members), who write on related themes from time to time. We discussed what subject matter the guest post(s) would contain and the word count by email.
I did not set the guest authors up with Admin access to my blogs, and I have no intention of providing Admin access to guest authors in the future either.
The process I used that worked very well was that guest bloggers simply emailed their articles to me. I read the submissions and where I felt editing was required I contacted the guest author by email and discussed the same with them. When we were both happy with the content, I copy pasted it into a post. Then I did the formatting, assigned the categories and tags, and I published the posts which clearly stated "by Guest author (insert name)" and their name was backlinked to their blog.
When it came to blog promotion both the guest author and I undertook promoting the guest post throughout the social networks we belong to.
Guest Author Opportunity
If you are a BC member with a blog that is related to my blogs (see below for details), and you would like to become a guest blogger on either of the two blogs I have registered here at BC, then post a comment below to indicate your interest without link dropping , and drop your email address into a PM and post it to my BC shoutbox.

(1) Have you ever had guest bloggers create posts for your blog? If so, what criteria did you set for the post content and length, and what other arrangements did you make?
(2) Have you ever had guest bloggers create posts for your blog and found that the experience turned out badly? If so, would you like to share the details?
(3) Would you consider having guest authors create posts for your blog? If so, do you have any criteria or concerns you would like to discuss?

Recently i have also thought a lot about having guest posts on my blog. So i wrote a blog post inviting my readers to become guest authors. i have also contacted some bloggers through personal massaging. i have wrote a post about becoming a guest author of LIFE AS I KNOW IT. Apart form other issues discussed on that post, i have given some guidelines for submitting the articles. you can read the full article here: lifeasiknowit22.blogspot.com/2009/05/do-you-want-to-guest-post-on-this-blog...
SOME GUIDELINES:
1. Guest posts must be related to the subjects discussed in Life as i know it. For example, self improvement, conscious living, motivation, peace, poverty, bringing a change, environment and life experience which is educational.
2. Guest posts will have one link going to the author’s blog’s main page or profile page or a particular post. But guest posts must not have any other links going to any other posts of the respected guest author.
3. Posts should be under 3000 characters. Posts might have pictures in it.
4. Posts must be original.
5. unfortunately all the submissions might not be published if they dont match the blog's theme.
Optional: You can link to the guest post from your blog if you wish to.
previously i was honored to have kikolani as a guest blogger on my blog. currently i am reviewing some guest post. Hope i will be able to publish them soon. Thanks a lot to those who have shown interest in publishing as a guest in my blog.
EDIT: oh, i almost forgot. I would love to guest post on your blog. But i fear that i am a little less experienced to be posting on your "This Time ~ This Place". -
Guest posting is really a pleasure when it comes to an honest individual like you. Your blog has received great traffic and exposure. The content written as guest posts are treated with respect by you as well.
I hope to write more for your blog but I think photography themes are not exactly too relevant in your genre...
I could potentially write about medical conditions where neurology is one of my main jobs...-
@roentarre
It was an honor and a pleasure to have you write for onecoolsite and I would welcome you again as a guest author any time.
The medical conditions aspect is an interesting one. I suffer from fibromylagia. I am drug free and I intend to remain that way. I use only alternative medicine techniques to cope with my condition. Are you interested in writing on this condition? -
@TT, I would gather some time to write about fibromyalgia.
I can write from my own perpective without too much on links to various clinical evidence.
I hope that you are well and sound. The only drug commonly prescribed is prednisolone with varied efficacy but a cluster of nasty side effects. This is always a personal decision after all.
Take care

I have had the opportunity to guest post on ThisTimeThisSpace and I can attest to the fact that TT is very gracious and helpful.

My wife and I have been away for a couple of weeks (first to Lyon in France, and then to the Hay on Wye Book Festival) and when we were away I was thinking about a post that I wanted to suggest as a guest blog on one of your blogs. So it is prescient that when I came to blogcatalog to update my site URL (because we have moved the blog to a page on the main site) I see this post of yours.
Message me if you want to talk about it more. -
1) I have published quite a few guest posts. I try to make it as easy as possible for other people to submit their posts, because I think those stories add a lot of richness to Little Four Eyes. The only criteria are that the posts must relate to children and vision or children and eyeglasses. Authors send me the text and any photos they want published. I don't have any length or other formatting criteria, but like Time Thief, I do format the posts myself, putting pictures and jump links when and where I think they're appropriate and adding categories and tags. I always start the post with a note from me clearly stating that this is a guest post, if that person has their own blog or website, I will link there. I also have a separate author set up called "Reader Posts" and all guest posts are posted under that author.
2) I have not had an arrangement turn out badly. I've had people offer to write something and not come through with it, but that doesn't bother me at all. I consider the submissions to be a bonus, but I don't rely on them.
3) I'm always happy to have guest authors write for Little Four Eyes. Usually these are real life stories about having a young child in glasses, but I've also published posts on growing up with glasses, and working with young children with vision issues.
I have written one guest post for another blog (local parenting blog). It was very intimidating for me - somehow writing on my own blog is ok, but when I knew it would be seen by others, I was really nervous, and it ended up taking me far longer to write than was necessary. I'd like to write more guest posts, but I don't think my topics would be a candidate for your blogs, TT, much as I like them. I think they would work better on other parenting or eye care blogs. -

On my SBF blog I did. There was a format and it had to be written well. I reviewed them and posted them. I got far more that were horribly written and not really very good as they didn't read the guidelines so they never got published.
I wouldn't not consider it for my personal blog though I've had guest bloggers at the Darfur blog, a blog that is subject specific and we don't take emotion based posts from people who don't know the history f Sudan and so on and so forth, and anyone can post at the SBF blog because I don't have time for it really.-
@cooper
Hello there and thank you for sharing your experiences. I have yet to receive any submissions that were horribly written. And I have yet to post guidelines for guest authors. My intention is to get feedback in this thread so I can tackle developing and publishing guidelines for guest authors. Thanks for your contribution. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to comment.

So sorry to read about the plight of your 4-legged companion, timethief...I hope the process is not too painful for both of you.
Coming back to the topic of discussion, I'll be honored if my article gets published on your blog "this time ~ this space". I've not guest blog before so you may have to bear with me.
Your discussion sets me thinking. I'd love to invite like-minded and serious bloggers like yourself to guest blog too. And I find your approach fits perfectly for me -- i.e. send articles and revisions via email rather than logging directly into Wordpress, and I'll handle the formatting and publishing. My blog uses quite a bit of custom codes so it won't be easy for anyone to jump right into it anyway.
Let's get in touch

@theconsicouslife
Please let me know what subject you are interested in writing about when you drop your email address into a PM and post it to my BC shoutbox.
With regard to reciprocating I will be glad to do that after the healing process from the head injury is complete.
With regard to the grief. I miss her lots.

I will be doing a guest post on onecoolsite, already discussed it with TT
I'm here to say that I am open to guest posting on blogs. I am trying to get the codesucker brand off the ground
Here are my requirements:
Your blog has least a PR4 homepage
Your blog has to do with SEO, Social Media or Web Development using linux enviroment (PHP not ASP)
Your blog has no scraped content and an active readership
I will submit a txt file or email with html code and break tags, you will be responsible for formatting it correctly with your blog theme.
I require at least 2 backlinks (specifically deep links to relevant articles on my blog), not counting a link to my homepage
I am open to a few hand-picked intelligent guest posters on my blog, however there is nothing in it for them as my blog is new and low ranked. -

@TT
I would love to guest blog
but my problem is I am more web site design than blog design, so some times I get a little lost on the difference. That is why i follow you around. :-) So, my 10 years are yours.
I'll e-U. -
I have had guest bloggers on my site, and I have been a guest blogger on another site. I enjoyed both experiences.
Blogger allows guest author access - which does not allow the blogger to do anything but post their own material, and view what is on the post dashboard. So I sent the guest author invites, and they were able to log in and post. The same was done for me.
For my blog, the post had a theme (the Capitalist/anti-capitalist debate) and on the other site, I was asked to explain who I was, and why I believe what I do etc. In both cases the guest blogger provided an opposing opinion to the original author. No real restrictions were put into place, and no editing was done by me, or by the other blogger when I guest posted. It was all very freedom of speech
In both cases I think it created positive networking with bloggers who are of opposing viewpoints, and opened the door to readers of varying opinions.
I would absolutely do it again.-
@Anok
Thanks so much for taking the time to detail your arrangements. On wordpress we can make a choice of four roles for added users.
Administrator
An administrator can do everything. Complete power over posts/pages, comments, settings, theme choice, import, users – the whole shebang. Nothing is off-limits, including deleting the entire blog.
Editor
An editor can publish, edit, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files.
Author
An author can edit, publish and delete their posts and they can upload files.
Contributor
A contributor can edit their posts but cannot publish. Once a contributor’s post is approved by an administrator and published, however, it may no longer be edited by the contributor.
I prefer not to use these options. The email me your posts and I'll do the rest is the best scenario for me so it's the one that I use. -
Wow, that is a lot of options. I would suppose they are good for a blog owner who does a lot of guest posts, or websites that have multple regular authors. But I can understand why you would prefer the e mail version.
I did that when I did the interviews - which isn't really guest blogging, per se, but it did leave a lot of room for interaction. -
You know a lot about conscious living, sustainable lifestyles and relationships. Anytime you want to become a guest blogger on my personal blog I'd be delighted to have you.

I encourage people who want to guest post on any of my blogs to go in and create a profile and write.
I set all guest authors to "contributor" status and have certain wordpress plugins that not only extend their privileges (uploading images, editing, etc) but also restrict in other ways (that I'm not mentioning in here). I let them do all the linking, the uploading of images and their own 'resource box' type of info at the end of the post, and when ready - save as PENDING REVIEW. After that, when I get around to it, I will review, and possibly reformat. If it needs work, or I'm not happy with it, I will put it back into DRAFT mode and just let the writer know what I think i was wrong with it and give him/her a chance to fix/rewrite.
I hope some who have guest authored on my blog will suggest they had a pleasant experience, and I'm always open for recurring authors and new authors to guest post on my blogs. I'm pretty sure there is a thread I created that explains that in more detail. -
I will add this: I turned down one guest author who only wanted to EMAIL me her article and wanted me to 'pretty it up'. I don't believe in that. I'm not looking for freelance writers - I'm looking for bloggers. And, if you can't work a blog and write a post (or want to learn how to do that) - I have given up on these people for my own blogs.
That's also why I let them do all the linking as well - freelance and journalist-wanna-be's don't link out (except to themselves). Bloggers link out.
