Besides X-mas Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. Pretty much every year I volunteer to hand out candy for my mom because I really get into it. One year I had my brother camo'd as a pile of leaves and when the kids came up the steps he jumped out to scare them. It was a lot of fun and of course I handed out some good candy after they got the fright of their lives.

I'm thinking of going hardcore vampire this year.

Any suggestions?
What are you wearing?
What do your kids want to be?

when I take my boys out, I am going as a pirate. They are Pirates. Yeah we're not very original. To the no kiddies party, I am going out as Bettie Page

Nice I like the dynamic you have working, upstanding parent pirate by day and naughty pin up girl by night.

haha wel you know, parenting involves compromise

I will be shaving my head into a mohawk, painting my whole head white with backed out eyes and mouth, with blood spewing from my face, while wearing a priest's outfit.

Pretty much my usual outfit every year. My 5 year old will be a ninja, and my two year old will be a pirate.

So it's pretty safe to say that you're going low key, ha-ha!

    4. RTBjr73
Well, I will have my kids with me, I don't want them to look at me like I am a freak!!!

I wrote up a couple of funny stories of my Halloween experiences growing up, if anyone cares to read about it (I swear, it's on-topic-- I'm not trying to spam you...)

This one's on my mother's, er, creative costuming ideas:
    cabbages-n-kings.blogspot.com/2008/09/nightmare-on-sesame-street-part-one.h...

And this one's on the dramatic night my friends and I decided to stop trick-or-treating:

I'm thinking of dressing up like Cleopatra. My daughter will be an Indian and my son will be a vampire.
    1. faithsju243
Cleopatra...that's an awesome idea. I might have to steal it. Remember being a copy cat is the truest form of flattery.

Me and my two room mates are going to be 3-something. I'm thinking three REALLY sexy nerds. (rainbow bright backpack, knee high basketball socks, Urkel glasses...MINI SKIRT, suspenders...)

The funniest Halloween costume that my hubby ever came up with was the first Halloween for the baby (who's now 14). I had to work, so dressing 5 kids for the outing fell all on hubby. The older 4 had costumes, but he decided to "dress" the baby himself. They stopped by the radio station and I had to ask - "WTF is that baby supposed to be?!"

    "Alice Cooper."

Alice Cooper isn't scary, he's sexy!

"Scares the hell out of me that you think that." LOL
    1. faithsju243
Did he go full on Cooper the baby with one piece spandax-ish outfit, dark black circles and super teased hair? LMAO
    2. RTBjr73
or did he go as the clean and sober with a golf club in hand alice Cooper?
    3. annaswan
If I can find the picture - I'll scan and post it. LOL He had the eye makeup of course, with the lines at the corners of the mouth too. A black sweat suit (baby was just 5 months old, lol) and a black top hat that came off one of the other kid's teddy bears. *shakes head*

You know, that's hysterical. Was his baby bottle labeled "Poison"?

I have dressed up every year that I am been in NY cause New Yorkers take Halloween seriously like for real. I am not sure yet what I am going to be but in light of my own financial crisis I will recycle something from years past.

Glad you are back on the boards, missed you.
    1. faithsju243
@curlydesigh...the great thing about halloween is you can use costumes from yrs past and still have a blast.

It feels good to be back.

I love Halloween -- but I have no idea what I'm going to dress up as yet. I typically just wait until the last minute and see what I can find at the costume shop.

Ah Halloween - Samhain - my favorite holiday!

I am still undecided about my costume this year - and we haven't got Punky's costume nailed down yet either.

We usually do an early trick or treat around the 'hood for Punky - then I stay up and give out candy to the bazillion kids who come out later, and then the Mr and I usually do a ritual, cast a circle, give some thanks, bask in the thinned veil and do readings.

Then we eat yummy food and drink seasonal wine
    1. RTBjr73
will you and Mr. Anok be using the swords, ot the matching his and hers daggers that we got you last Winter solstice?
    2. Anok
Oh, we only use the functional ritual knives that have been properly blessed.

But we do place all the other goodies around to keep it.....festive. (Yeah, that's a good way to put it )
    3. faithsju243
@anok...sounds fun and totally in the spirit.

And side note I think RTBjr is being a smartass but I could be reading it wrong!
    4. RTBjr73
@if you turn your head to the right 90 degrees...now turn to the left 90 dgrees...oh wait, nevermind...you read it correctly
    5. Anok
      I know he was being a smarty-pants.

He also knows that I really do have a lot of, uhm, interesting..."stuff" lying around the house!
    6. crpitt
I thought you had decided on you know what.......
    7. Anok
Oh, you mean the pirate costume? I dunno...I dunno....
    8. RTBjr73
yes she does...although her playroom is impressive with torture devices, my favorite room is her kitchen....

WHERE SHE STASHES HER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!!!!!!!

      gotcha again Anok.
    9. crpitt
      I have seen the rooms
    10. Anok
Damn, I'm really going to have to send you cookies, aren't I?

Claire, it's too bad Punky ate all the raspberries for our brownies
    11. crpitt
      /sniffles I miss punky
    12. Anok
You'll be happy to know you are officially "Auntie Claire" : )
    13. crpitt
      Hooray!
    14. RTBjr73
Way to go, Anok...Claire falls in love with lil' Punky, goes back across te pond, and then you throw the "Autie Claire" on her...damn, you're RUTHLESS!!!
    15. crpitt

    16. RTBjr73

If your going to be a Vampire, I'd say make it interesting...like be a sexually confused vampire, or a Vampire with ADD or something...

Last year I was Henry Hill (of Goodfellas)...this year I'm lazy and saving all my scratch to move back to NYC, so I'm taking out my old faithful.... Slutty Geisha.
  13. trailofpen
I'm probably going to wear something simple because I'm just going to end up drunk and naked by the end of the night anyways.
