Many Happy Returns.

www.itproportal.com/portal/news/article/2009/3/13/world-wide-web-20-years-o...

If you are into astrology that makes the internet a Pisces.

Not sure what traits a Pisces is supposed to have- does it fit with what we associate with the internet?

Please post your best wishes here.

Best wishes to the Internet and thank you for finally reaching past adolescence.

    Oh! And many happy returns!

Now there is a thought. The internet leaves it's teenage years behind.
    2. melindaville
Exactly--and those terrible twos and threes were rough too!

Unfortunately, it has plenty of zits to get rid of before it enters adulthood.

Very poor CFG and very yesterday. Avoid that link folks.

If you include BBS and Arpanet, it's older than twenty years.
    1. polybore
Indeed but only when the internet wants to get into an over 21 club or indulge in activities of an adult nature. The crucial thing about today's date is the hyperlink if Polybore *REM correctly.

Does Polybore always refer to itself in the third person?
    3. polybore
Online, always. It gives Polybore a sense of detachment. Unfortunately it also gives others the impression that Polybore is two spoons, four forks and a fish knife short of a cutlery set.

    Polybore is a bore

I beg to disagree. I find polybore highly entertaining!
    2. polybore
Yep you got it CFG. mtyler77 you are too kind, [DISCLAIMER] let Polybore assure you that any entertainment experienced from contact with Polybore is coincidental.

The Internet is the network, which is more like 50 or 60 years old. It's the Web that's 20 years old -- the protocol for transferring information over the Internet and displaying it in a browser.
    1. polybore
      Good point.
    2. polybore
Mind you does that mean Polybore was using the internet when using those wind up phones back in the good old days. "Operator, operator".
    3. satijournal
Polybore is that old? No, that wasn't the Internet. Those were phone lines. The Internet was called ARPANET back then and was mainly for military and university use. The first use of the ARPANET was in 1969 so its 40 year anniversary is this year on Nov. 21. (I thought it was created in the 50s)

Pisces is supposed to be the most intuitive sign - the Internet can read your mind
    1. polybore
It certainly lets you know what is going on in everyone else's mind.

    Thanks, Al Gore!

What has he done now, claimed the internet?
  7. polybore
Surely the Birthday of the Internet needs a bit more celebration. Or do we take it so much for granted now?
    1. Friday13
      Yes, we do.
    2. polybore
If it were up to Polybore it would be a world wide holiday on the Internet's (www) Birthday.
    3. Friday13
I will gladly sign the petition, if you start one.
    4. polybore
Nice idea. Will roll one out in the next 24hrs.

Looks like Drupal will be able to do the job with a bit of tweaking.
