I just saw the new Harry Potter movie! Now, I know I'm a bit late since the movie came out a while ago but I have to admit I am so glad I went to see it! It was fabulous and I think it was the best one of the bunch!

Any others who enjoyed it?

Good solid 7.5/10 for me. Missed a lot from the book that SHOULD have been in the movie. Should have made the move 3.5 hours long, instead of 2.5 hours.

But, all-in-all, a dang good movie.

I agree as well, but as a movie - standing on its own I think it was darn good!

After I heard the epic battle was removed I decided not to watch it.

Most movies don't have the time to fit it all in, not unless they do it as a mini-series on TV and that isn't cost effective with all the special effects.

I personally loved the books, but the images that the movies create enhance my vision or make me return to the pages of the tomes to discover the full story - which I think makes this one an effective vehicle and a great movie.

Too bad the battle was a very important part

I hadn't heard that it was removed and thought that it completely destroyed the end of the movie. I could have used less snogging and more fighting.
    4. dbowles1017
Yeah, the whole book (series) was leading up to that fight. They better add it to part 1 of book 7.

Not yet. I don't have time for movies now. Once I got the time, I will download the movie for free.

Cathy and I are going to go see it for a second time real soon ... first was with ALL the kids in town! So, hopefully this viewing will be quiet and without the back of our seats being kicked.

Oh, and that f'ing lady answering her f'ing phone won't be there.

Rory, if you can, go see the IMAX 3D version. I have heard it's outstanding.

I loved it! Amazing, wonderful, gorgeously made.

I agree. Best of the bunch.

I guess I liked it, but I don't think it lived up to all the hype I see written about it. The movie was hard to watch. It is just too dark all the time. The other ones had some daylight in them. It is very dark scenery. The tone is also changing as the films get darker in the plots.
    1. christibroer
I can understand where you're coming from, but this book was especially dark! I think the movie handled it well without being quite so intense and actually allowed us to see the characters grow to fit what they were experiencing.
    2. Deray28
That's funny one of my biggest complaints of this movie is that it wasn't dark enough! The book is waaaay darker than the movie. I, as legbamel, would have liked less snogging and more fighting.
    3. Epicharis
God yes! enough of the snogging already! I felt like I was perving on teenagers while I was supposed to be watching murderous conspiracies!
    4. celticmusicfan
well if you are in a dark mood i think it will fit the situation. right now it's gloomy outside, very dark like the preview of the movie. i think i will watch it later after work. after all it's a weekend tomorrow.

I thought it was terrible! Really really dull and heavy-handed. The script was plodding and the plot was frankly uninteresting. By the end of it I couldn't care less who killed who or why, I just wanted it to be finished.
    1. Stillthinking
I totally disagree. I thought it was quick, energetic, very light and very involving.

The last film was clumsy, heavy handed and plodding though.
    2. Epicharis
we always have different taste in films...you always love what I loathe!
    3. Stillthinking
That can't be true. What have I loved that you loathed?
    4. Deray28
But, there lay our complains ST, the movie shouldn't have been light. Yes, the romantic relationships are present in the book but, they are not the main point. The main point is the half-blood-prince. In the movie it didn't have the impact it has on the book when you find out who was he. Anywho, I don't want to spoil (more) the movie for those who have not seen it. I did enjoy it, I have watched it twice now and I get what the director tried to do changes things. Now I really get why book 7 has to be made into 2 books, there are a lot of loose ends to be tighten up.
    5. Epicharis
I just remember that anytime there is a movie thread you love something that I think was terrible. Star Trek was one, can't remember what else you liked.
    6. Stillthinking
Oh yeah. I did think Star Trek was good. But we both love classic films!

      All About Eve
      Now Voyager

I seem to remember we agreed on those. Or was that someone else?

      *memory fuzzy*

We both hate NCIS and CSI
    7. Epicharis
Yeah, the old films we agree on...the new ones we really don't!

      I also hated BSG.
    8. Stillthinking
You hated BSG. We are no longer friends

      *winks*

you crazy americans with your boring tv shows and dire films and weird gift-giving rituals...you're all MAD!

I love Harry Potter but I haven't seen this one yet. Now ya’ll make it more interesting.

i was disappointed that the important stuff that people who didn't read the books should know (from the movie) was left out. I feel like they made it all about sex and it was slightly ridicule how it was a COMEDY!!!!!
I saw the first midnight showing I had such faith in it and hoped that i could share what i took away from the books w/ my husband but unfortunatly...
    1. Deray28
When someone that hasn't seen the movie asks me how was it, I say; it is the funniest and sweetest of all.

Being an HP-book fan I know it shouldn't have been that way, that's why I was disappointed. I'm guessing those are your feelings too Lolita.
    2. LolitaV
i really was. I read the last pages at 2am, with a flashlight and cried my eyes out. so yes the movie was a 4/10
  9. christibroer
I agree with you Dery28, but I have to say that I'm glad that people from both side, the likes and dislikes came by!!

I watch a movie not to be stimulated mentally too much. if i want that i'd read a book. i go out, have a nice quiet weekend by myself and go home.
    1. Stillthinking
      Well, if that's your preference.

It's off the topic, but I like fun, easy movies. I also like the challenge of a really thought provoking movie too.
  11. celticmusicfan
thanks Christi. i want my weekened to be relaxing. just like right now. i can see that the happry potter lads have grown. they are venturing to other acting careers which is good.

No complaints. It was entertaining. It tended more toward drama than action compared to the previous releases, as far as I can remember anyways. I think for that reason I liked it a bit more. It did seem a touch rushed, but then I feel that way about most movies.
    1. christibroer
I guess I'm not much of a fan of the action movie genre. I'm probably way too cerebral for my own good, but I like those movies that have more drama too.

For a movie I wouldn't have seen if I didn't have children, it wasn't bad. It wasn't the best or the worse of the Harry Potter movies. I actually thought all the teen romance angst was funny.
    1. christibroer
Yes, that teen romance was funny, but all to real. (I saw my share of love sick kids since I was a middle school teacher.)
  14. Chucklington
I've only ever seen the first film and never read the books, but in any case, this seems to be getting some middling reviews.
  15. dbowles1017
I just got done 'watching' it. It wasn't too bad, but if they don't put the battle at hogwarts in the next movie heads will roll.

I was actually quite happy with it - fully understanding that they had to cut out a lot of stuff to make the length tolerable for the average movie goer. (I would have sat through a 4 hour film, though )

The last two were a bit of a disappointment to me, so I was a little wary of this one. I felt that the cinematography was much better, as was the acting. (They are getting older and better). They did skimp on some important stuff, but I'll say this much, I wouldn't want to be the one trying to edit down the screenplay or the film - that has to be one hell of a job!
    1. christibroer
I'm with you, Anok. I saw the last two, but liked the development of this movie and the actors better. I felt the editing was pretty good, but with so many fans that wanted the book as is had to make it a job that wouldn't please anyone who wanted the book as exactly as it was written on screen!

I watched it the first day it opened. I was a little bit disappointed because though I can understand that they can only put so much in a movie, they didn't include a lot of good stuff and some of the characters where missing too. Oh well...
