This morning I recieved a check for $351,178.00. Then a few hours later, I recieved a phone call from a man with a strong accent. He told me to cash the check and take 10% that he would be in touch to collect his money! SKKKEETTTCCCHHHYYY!!! Have you ever had this or any other scam attempted on you?

Yeah, scams are everywhere. I mostly get scam/spam mail from my postings on craigslist trying to offer me bogus cashier's checks and to arrange shipping to them out of state through escrow.

My experience was with much less money, but it was face-to-face personal. A "customer" scammed me while I was working a cash register as a teenager. I just recently blogged about it (although it happened over 20 years ago).

I've had three emails as of late that stated 1) A man from Africa wanted to transfer millions into my account but keep it on the down low. 2) A philanthropist named me personally in his will to inherit his millions, even though the supposed lawyer couldn't even write "Dear Pamela" instead of "Dear Friend" and 3) I won the UK Lottery. With luck like this, who needs to blog?

Someone tried to pick my pocket at the track once. Trouble was I had my hand in my pocket at the time. I grabbed him and reported it to security.

Well apart from the general "you have won scams" and a few phone calls, the one's that I seem to get are targeted to artists like myself. You can spot them easily, but I do know of some who fell for them.

Got a check in the mail 'supposedly' from a law firm. I called the law firm to tell them about it and they said not to cash it under any circumstances, that it was a scam and they'd already recieved a couple of phone calls about it.

    Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes.

    1. I was working part time in college at a car wash and a customer tried to convince me that he had given me $20 and he wanted it back.

    2. I was working part time in college at a high end furniture store and a guy tried to write a bad check with fake ID.

    3. At 19, I got a pre-approved credit card in the mail only to find out that the limit was only $300 and the application fees for the card were $250, and $9 dollars a month to maintain the card, and a yearly $50 renewal fee.

    4. I had my wallet stolen from me on the train and the guy who stole my wallet used my social security number to get a fraudulent driver's license, checking account, job, credit cards. Then he sold it to other illegals who wanted it for the same reasons. In total, about 8 people are illegally using my social which is why I will have my credit report locked for the rest of my life.

    5. Just now, got an email about a job offer that would require me to "invest" in a training program.

    6. I had a dent in my car and a guy walked up to in the street as I was parking it and offered to fix it for me for 100. Said his boss was out of town and he had borrowed the shop equipment to make some extra cash. I said no, he kept harassing me until I said fine, I would give him 60 to fix it. I was expecting him to hammer it out (it was a newer model car ie. plastic) instead he got out a hammer and a spike and punched 10 holes into the dent. Then he physically pulled the dent out, but now, even worse than a dent, I had 10 holes in my car. He said he would fill the holes and paint the panel, but conveniently, his cell phone wasn't working. Could he call me when the paint came in? A-hole f-ed up my car.

This is why I hate people.

      I don't hate people.
      They make excellent fertiliser

Wow. You need a super-enhanced good luck charm. It seems these people are drawn to you o_o

Wow, you just made my day a little bit sadder after reading that. I think I'm going to have to splurge on blueberries now.

Yeah, when I was younger I was a magnet for this kind of garbage. I had my wallet stolen a second time last year, but because I have so many safeguards on my credit report due to the identity theft the first time, they didn't get away with more than a couple hundred dollars and my bank refunded me that.

I get a fair amount of scammy emails. I love responding back and giving them phony info (like my name is Lucifer Jones and my account number is 666-666-666).
    1. dbowles1017
Not a good name. Lucifer would not be seen near the last name of jones.
    2. MissSuzie
      Who asked you anyway?
    3. dbowles1017
I dont need to be asked thank you very much.
