If so, in what way have these two been beneficial for you guys?...I would want to consider practicing them as well, but not sure if it really is worth the effort...

Yes... some. I find that it can be refreshing and relaxing. I mostly use meditation as a tool for focus. Many times when I am trying to isolate things that I need to do (long term, not like "Do the laundry...") I find that meditation shows you that you always had the answer, you just needed to get your conscious mind out of the way for a bit.

I have tried yoga over the years and it just didn't do anything for me, but I think it is worth a try. I have friends who LOVE it and it really has become part of their life, and given them a sense of healthfulness and inner peace.

I get that but in other ways.

There are a lot of members with Yoga blogs, and you should check them out. I don't know if Yoga or meditation change your life, but they feel so good while you're doing them. If I start having annoying thoughts, I just take a deep breath, touch my toes and feel instantly relieved.

If you are at all considering meditation, I highly recommend reading this article: "Mindfulness in Plain English"

    www.vipassana.com/meditation/mindfulness_in_plain_english.php

It is the most useful article I've come across for self-education on the subject. The parent website has lots of other great things too, if you have the time to read them.

(Incidentally, my first blog post was about meditation)

Meditation and yoga go hand-in-hand as a way to relieve stress and explore your mind as a way of better knowing who your truly are. Both have helped me deal more easily with stress, relax the mind, and discover wonderful new things about myself and others.

Give it a try! If it doesn't work for you, you can always stop, but you'll have known you did explore new avenues.

Yes, the practice of mindfulness has helped me a great deal. I tried formal meditation but I never really got the hang of it.

What do you mean by formal meditation?

Yeah, those stiff black shoes are really uncomfortable! But seriously folks...

By formal meditation, I mean sitting motionless and being mindful of the breath.

There's a TV channel in my area that shows yoga each morning. On those rare occasions when I get to channel surf in the morning, when I come across that channel, I find it mesmerizing. I could sit there and watch that for a good 5 to 10 minutes.

Watching the ladies do yoga is as calming and peace-inducing as watching ladies do aerobics is exciting and invigorating. I fully support the activity.

Yoga and meditation are definitely helpful, I feel so good after it, but if I did it more often I believe it could change my life for better.

It helped me get through law school. I recommend it to everyone. It is non-religious. It makes you aware of your thoughts and helps you become more rational--by freeing your ego from your emotions and thoughts.

I think Yoga is a practice full of wonder -No more aches and pains, no more muscle spasms, and a whole lot more flexibility, balance and strength. I've also lost weight and maintained (mostly - lol).

    Interesting...

Does it take long time to lose weight with yoga compared to gym workout etc

I try to meditate daily, I find it clears my mind and relaxes me. Meditation itself hasn't altered my life in an Earth shattering way, but meditation plays a big part of my way of life. And all and all, I'm a pretty relaxed guy. (If not a bit of a smartass, but I can't/won't change that.)

I've started doing yoga a couple months ago and definitely feel an improvement in my energy level and in my ability to sleep soundly.

Does yoga need a very flexible body since thee is a lot of stretching involoved? or is it that anyone can train themselves to do that?
