Hi,
I have been doing a bit of a blog search on here to see if anyone alse is trying to or has managed to successfully license character designs, but am not finding much in the search. Has anyone here been involved in that area or has any advice to offer?

Hi John, thanks for your offer of help.
I have basically created a set of character designs, their pets, houses etc and have decided to take a stand at the Brand Licensing Show in Olympia in October (and now I am scared to death). One concern I have is that currently the name logo and name I have created for my set of characters is not registered. I am currently debating whether or not I should register it or carry on just using TM to see what sort of response I get to the characters at the show?
My reluctance to register a trademark is down to a previous bad experience with the UK trademark and patent office. I paid for them to do a search be (prior to filing a trademark aplication) and their results came back comppletely clear. I filed the aplication and someone with a similar name (which had not been pointed out to me) filed an objection.
To cut a long story short, I had to get a solicitor involved and it cost me a fortune. Although the trademark and patent office did not admit liability when I wrote and complained that the similar mark should have been flagged in a search they refunded the fees (which was nothing compared to the solicitors)
