There is an informal group of bloggers who put a small image in their blog sidebar "U Comment, I Follow". The logo indicates that the blog doesn't prevent search engines from following the link to your website. It is supposed to increase the number of good backlinks to your own blog.
Some bloggers think that the meaning of the logo is that they will make a comment on your blog if you comment on theirs. I don't think it matters which definition you agree with, the important thing is that a lot of bloggers actively look for this logo before commenting.

When a person comments on your blog and leaves a link the search engines will not acknowledge that link while they are crawling the internet. And that causes less ‘Link Love’.
Hmm…
That is not what we want, isn't it?
So to promote Link Love you’ve gotta do something. First you gotta go to your Template section and then to ‘edit HTML’ or something like that (be sure to save a backup of your existing template). You gotta make sure checking the ‘Expand Widget Templates’. The next is to remove the CODE that causes this problem. I haven't joined it yet, because I am not sure if it is a good choice or not for my website. I guess my questions for someone with some SEO experience is...do search engines ding you for this? Shouldn't we NOT want our websites to follow to sites that may flag our site as harmful.
That is my concern and if it is not something to worry about then I won't worry. I have heard the "comment luv plug in" does the same thing.-
Its hard to say Doc, blog comment spam is still a highly prevalent source of anchor texts so Google doesn't like it. People started it up to reward readers and commentators when they comment with useful information. The ones who take the ucomment/ifollow philosophy take commenting seriously. They want quality comments that add to the post or stir up discussion. More people who are into SEO nowadays only see it as a way to get dofollow links to their own site.
People who have plugins like comment luv, with dofollow maybe dinged by google, but I also think that people who comment, and contribute to a discussion should be rewarded with some PR juice. In the end its the people who moderate the comments who pick up the responsibility on wether or not this movement will be successful or not.
The growing number of people who just use dofollow on comments, and don't moderate their spam is what will eventually cause this movement to fail.
That being said, my blog is do follow for comments.

I removed the logo from where I had it originally and didn't put it back, but my blog is DO-follow. You can read about it here:
work-at-home-wealth.com/blog/index.php/2008/05/05/know-the-9-ways-you-can-g...
On the other side, due to spammy comments, I've been thinking on installing a plugin which removes nofollow tag only after three comments has been post by a given user. -
There's the fundamental issue of trying to twist peoples arm to do something. I don't want comments for the sake of comments, and I Don't want to force myself to comment on something that doesn't strike me as interesting - even though I do like to comment on everything even slightly interesting. This one promises that even if your comment is crap, and your blog is crap I will still comment... I am THAT desperate for comments, in other words. Doesn't really look good on the side bar I think.

I have just installed the dofollow wordpress plug-on that makes my blog a dofollow site. You can read about it here:

In case you haven't joine, read the information int the above link for the logo and the dofollow plug-in -
I've been using Lucia's Linky Luv plugin, which only turns the comments dofollow after a stated period of time of my choosing (I select 3 posts) and if the links are on the author link only - as all links dropped in the comments are peeled back to nofollow - even if the dofollow is enabled on the author link.
I think.
