    I have been to Scotland many a time for holidays and my sister has lived up in the Highlands of Scotland for the past three years.

    Scenery = Absolutely gorgeous.
    People = Really nice for the most part.
    Food = Depends what type of grub you like.

    Never been there, but I'd love to...nonetheless, I'm reminded of that great scene from Trainspotting, where they go out to the country, Tommy looks up at a mountain and says "it makes you proud to be Scottish" and Renton says "we got colonized by effete wankers. We couldn't even find anybody decent to get colonized by!" or something like that.

      no offense meant to any effete wankers who might be reading this....

    It is a good tourist destination. Scenery is fantastic and people friendly. Food can be a bit hit or miss but if you do a little research you can eat to a standard as high as anywhere in the world.

    In the early 1980s. Edinburgh and Aberden, with a little driving in the countryside trying to avoid short, long-haired cattle. I loved the place.

    It would be lovely if it wasn't for the Scots. (Kidding! before I get accused of Jockism)

      No you have a point there. Polybore is Scottish but would not mind repopulating Scotland with people from, say Brazil, for a bit at least. Would make a nice change.

      Yeah there is an alarming lack of Brazilians in Scotland, less than in France I think.

    I've never been to Europe, but Scotland is #1 on my list of places to visit if I ever get there. One of my ancestors was a MacEwan (McCune) and I have always felt a kinship with the place.

    I love Scotland - it's my favourite place and I lived there as a child. I go back as often as I can and hope to retire there in a year or two! I adore the scenery (especially in the mountains)and the people are usually very friendly. As for food, well I'm a vegetarian but there are always nice choices available. I love some of the sweet things I can't get here in Wales (like fern cakes and empire biscuits)!

    Scotland has many areas of outstanding beauty, and also of historic interest. Culloden is very evocative, as is Glen Coe, and the Isle of Iona. It's fun seeing the guy on TV every once in a while who took us around Loch Ness in his sonar equipped boat. We were there in August, and it wasn't very warm, but we had a wonderful visit.

    did a walking tour of the highlands two years ago in july. it was a small group and our guide was great. the history is rich and landscape stunning. highly recommmend it, although i've heard ireland is even more beautiful.

    Depends where in Scotland you go. Dundee is the same as any slowly deteriorating urbanized hell hole anywhere in the world. :-(
